Customer Questions & Answers

How do you go about purchasing the ridgid 18 v router .is it an on line or in store purchase?

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.

Specs say it has 25,000 hp. Should i hold it with both hands?

Asked by: Anonymous
Haha, well now it says "0 HP". The 25,000 spec is definitely not the HP rating, because that would drain a 5Ah battery in 0.017 seconds! You would REALLY need to hold onto that with both hands! The 25,000 spec is actually supposed to be for max RPM. It should definitely be manageable with one hand, since it's a trim router.

The spec's shown here have the Peak Horsepower as 25000. Don't think thats possible. I believe thats the peak RPM

What is the peak horsepower for this unit?
Asked by: Heart7
definitely a typo, but plenty of power. I love mine

What battery(s) and charger does this unit use?

Asked by: JimE
any rigid 18v battery/charger regardless of amps ... one size fits all ... 9.6, 12 and 14.4 v rigid batteries will not work ... and of course, other brand batteries will not work ...

18-Volt Brushless Compact Router is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Trim Router Every Ridgid tool I have is just superb! And so is this cordless brushless trim router. I have never had a router at all and I wanted to be able to smooth out edges of boards, particularly the deck boards on my deck in my back yard. I did not want the hassle of a corded tool - too much trouble. I bought some Ryobi roundover bits to use in the router. This tool is so easy to use and has adjustable speed. Very powerful and clean cutting. I really enjoy using it and now I can smooth over those rough edges on boards! It is particularly easy to hold and guide into the wood. What a pleasure to use. Look at the video and images of the tool. There ya go!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Cordless Router I love my new Ridgid cordless router. The brushless Gen5X motor is super strong. The router is stable even with the larger batteries on top. It feels good and secure in your hands when you are using it. It has great functions. I like the soft start function. My last compact router did not have that, and I was constantly gouging my work when I was starting a cut. The adjustment dial works great. It is much easier than I was used to. I also like the see through base with the sawdust eject port. I love all of the applications for cordless power tools that ridgid has come out with using their powerful batteries and brushless motors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great router I’m happy with this new product. I have a decent collection of 18V Ridgid tools and this is a nice member to add to the family. I was initially wondering about the balance and general ergonomics since the battery sits on top. That was not an issue. It handles well and what you would expect from such a compact router. I like the brushless motor, especially as more tools are moving this direction. The adjustments are easy to manipulate. I added some photos show them up close. As far as I’m concerned using a router correctly and accurately is a bit of an art form. This router makes it easier for a new person or an old pro. An always the LED light is a much appreciated addition. Overall, very easy tool to operate and handle. My cuts were accurate and the tool worked as advertised. I recommend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from good router I recommend this Rigid 18v router with some reservations. It can cut nice, straight, smooth lines. I used this router to cut 1/8" deep grooves in pine to fit 1 x 12 shelves in a bookcase. One battery died during the cutting, but the other powered through the remainder of the project. I like the clear plastic base. The base and the LED light allow you see the progress of your work. The base also moves smoothly whether you're using the included guide or a wooden yardstick or a metal square as your guide. I had three problems with this router. I firmly tightened the bit in the router with the wrench. The spindle lock was wobbling as I tightened the chuck, and I thought it was pretty tight. Even so, the bit dropped while I was working and gouged out a chunk of wood. I then retightened the chuck using as much force as I could with the 4-1/2" wrench, and the bit stayed in place for the remainder of the project. The switch is oddly placed, and turning on the router is a little awkward. Sometimes I had to jiggle the switch in order to start the router. Last, the micro depth adjustment knob would not move separately from the zero reset. While the depth is easy enough to control - as long as the bit stays in place - some people might want better micro adjustment.

I've used the same corded router for years, and the cord always slowed me down when shaping dressers and tables. I cannot believe that they made this thing with a brushless motor, too! I really enjoy how compact and smooth it is. Surprisingly, the battery on top does not make it top-heavy or unwieldy. In fact, I like the battery on top because I use it for stability. It is clear that the design was well thought. This tool is a light-weight powerhouse, and I would certainly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good cordLESS compact router Compact router was a bit hard to obtain as it was available on HD's site but then it was removed and in the interim I was able to special order it. Special Orders desk was very helpful in this regard. I have two 4.0 Ah batteries I use the cordless router with. Love the fact that I am not tethered. Currently working on a project with red oak and this unit had no difficulty in routing round overs along 8 long sides of 12 ft red oak + 10 long sides of 8 ft red oak boards. So far quite good. Wish the LED light was doubled as it only lights up one half of the working area so you you have keep that in mind if you are in need of the light it provides. Was well balanced in handling the tool. Just the right amount of weight to the tool so that it has enough heft but not overly so. The micro adjustment for depth was good to make final adjustments after I tested the route on a test piece of scrap wood. Solid tool and worth the return of my original corded Ridgid compact router which delayed my project 3 weeks as I waited for the 18v version. Again, very happy not to have to be tethered to AC power and the cords.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little trim router Compact routers in the past have been undersized and they didn’t have enough power to get the job done. That is not the case with this router. I have 2 heavy duty routers in my shop but this is now the first one I reach for on most jobs. It's just so comfortable in your hand. It has the power I need for most jobs without the weight & awkwardness of the larger horse power routers. I've had mine for about 3 months and love it. I just can't find a fault with the router as it does everything I ask of it with ease and without strain. The craftsmanship is excellent and the micro-adjustment is great. All of the controls are within easy reach and it is really a pleasure to use. There is a LED light that illuminates the work area and improves visibility. A quick release lever allows for easy removal of the motor housing from the base. It has a variable speed option allows you to adjust speed from 17,000 RPM to 25,000 RPM. For what it is worth, I would highly recommend this router not only for finish and detail work but for general use as well-it is a very capable tool that will not disappoint you. Hardly ever use my larger routers except when I need to use my router bits with ½ inch shafts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good finish trim router got better RIDGID 5.5 Amp Cordless Compact Router is new and similar to the corded version that had been out for a while. This new one is a keeper, too. Besides Ridgid making a good trim router, it now comes cordless at just three pounds and is rock steady in your hand. It runs their larger batteries, but I was able to get good results from my 2ah smaller battery pack. The smaller battery works fine for DIYers not running it all the time. It has a speed dial on top from 17,000 to 22,000 RPM's and a fine height adjustment dial in 64 inch increments on the front of the trimmer just below the battery which sits on top. The coarse adjustment scale I pretty much ignored and you can eye it and its across the front of the trimmer. What I like about the controls is the on/off switch. It is a pull/push type and you can turn off the trimmer with one finger on the hand you are holding it. The motor is 1 ½ HP similar to other popular finish routers which is enough to keep up with straight edge and roundover bits. It comes with a small light that is okay and two clear bases, round and square. The package includes a quality edge guide, a canvass bag to carry it all, a bit and chuck tool. The bag is big enough to stuff in the battery, but not the charger. Wish they'd supply cases so everything can go in them. This router can be turned upside down on the flat of the battery to safely rest while working. It has a soft start motor with a smooth ramp up and a small opening to expel dust away from the sight line. When running the cutting bit it didn't seem to help for me, need a dust collection system to see clearly, but this just could be me. The tool grip is comfortable with your second hand on the batery. I prefer the square base on the router to extend further than it does, but its a small personal preference point. As I said Ridgid makes a quality tool and they stand by it with their lifetime service agreement another plus. Overall, a really nice cordless trim router glad to have in my home workshop.
