Questions & Answers

How do you go about purchasing the ridgid 18 v router .is it an on line or in store purchase?

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.
Asked by: Shane
If it's not in the store, go to "homedepot.com" and order it

Specs say it has 25,000 hp. Should i hold it with both hands?

Asked by: Anonymous
Haha, well now it says "0 HP". The 25,000 spec is definitely not the HP rating, because that would drain a 5Ah battery in 0.017 seconds! You would REALLY need to hold onto that with both hands! The 25,000 spec is actually supposed to be for max RPM. It should definitely be manageable with one hand, since it's a trim router.

Do you need to have a 4ah battery for this? I'm using a 2ah and once it hits wood it stalls out.

It'll run on any of Ridgid's batteries, but the higher the AH the better. This is a TRIM ROUTER though, and doesn't have the torque of it's bigger, plugged-in brother. If you jump into a heavy load all at once rather than working down to your depth with multiple passes it may very well bog down.

Hi John, This can run on any of the Ridgid 18 v batteries but the higher the amps the longer it runs. Hope this helps. Greg

Customer Reviews

18-Volt Brushless Compact Router is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 83.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from cut the cord-a followup Well, I've had this now since October of 2016. as I have said in a prior review, this purchase was intended for heavy daily use in a trade (cabinet making ). Since its been purchased I can honestly say she has cut easily 4-5 thousand (yes thousand ) linear feet of material. It's still very comfortable to use, but you must be mindful of its limitations. It is cordless so it does lack the HP of a corded router, therefore it cuts slower. It has been very reliable until recently wherein the switch has a "dead spot" in it around 3/4 of the way out. this doesn't surprise me much due to its heavy use. Fortunately the LSA has come to save the day. It's currently out for service and I am tangled with a corded version until it's return. That alone has very much reminded me of why I bought it in the first place. Overall, with the past to reflect upon, I would definitely buy it again

I expected it to be lightweight but was surprised at just how light it really is. The design and ergonomics are nice and well thought out. The depth adjustment is pretty intuitive. The power-on switch has to be pulled out and is a bit clunky, but it's designed for safety and would work well to prevent accidentally switching the unit on during transport, etc. Bit change is simple and quick with the included wrench. I've only used it so far for two projects, so I can't comment on longevity and durability, but it seems to be pretty solid. I've used it with an 18V 4Ah battery and it seems to have plenty of power and great run time. Overall, this thing is so quick and easy to use that I can see myself reaching for it with a lot of projects. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Trim Router Every Ridgid tool I have is just superb! And so is this cordless brushless trim router. I have never had a router at all and I wanted to be able to smooth out edges of boards, particularly the deck boards on my deck in my back yard. I did not want the hassle of a corded tool - too much trouble. I bought some Ryobi roundover bits to use in the router. This tool is so easy to use and has adjustable speed. Very powerful and clean cutting. I really enjoy using it and now I can smooth over those rough edges on boards! It is particularly easy to hold and guide into the wood. What a pleasure to use. Look at the video and images of the tool. There ya go!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little trim router Compact routers in the past have been undersized and they didn’t have enough power to get the job done. That is not the case with this router. I have 2 heavy duty routers in my shop but this is now the first one I reach for on most jobs. It's just so comfortable in your hand. It has the power I need for most jobs without the weight & awkwardness of the larger horse power routers. I've had mine for about 3 months and love it. I just can't find a fault with the router as it does everything I ask of it with ease and without strain. The craftsmanship is excellent and the micro-adjustment is great. All of the controls are within easy reach and it is really a pleasure to use. There is a LED light that illuminates the work area and improves visibility. A quick release lever allows for easy removal of the motor housing from the base. It has a variable speed option allows you to adjust speed from 17,000 RPM to 25,000 RPM. For what it is worth, I would highly recommend this router not only for finish and detail work but for general use as well-it is a very capable tool that will not disappoint you. Hardly ever use my larger routers except when I need to use my router bits with ½ inch shafts.

In my 35+ years of building "Heirloom Quality" Custom Woodwork, I have wanted a cordless router, the fact this has a brush-less motor is a BIG plus- I have times that I must go to a client's unfinished home (no power) and I used to load up my 10k generator (I suffer from sever RA, loading such a large piece of equipment is no easy task) - This Very Well built router is a blessing in my world, BUT I own 32 RIDGID tools so the quality is no surprise- I highly recommend this router for any light duty jobs that a router can be used - Thanks to Home Depot and RIDGID

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small Sized Portable Router This compact router from Ridgid works as expected on the soft wood projects I have tackled. I don't know about laminates and hardwoods but other reviewers have been satisfied. I have been slowly adding to my cordless power tools collection and finding real convenience at not having to tote around an extension cord. Battery technology has made great strides to the point I have not used my corded drill in about 2 years. I would have given this router the highest rating on "value" if it would have included the battery and charger and not sold it separately.

I love that the router is light weight and cordless, but was very disappointed when it bogged down going through 1/2" MDF. I wasn't expecting a tool to replace my corded routers or for heavy duty projects, but I was expecting a little more guts out of the motor. I work in film/tv, so most of my projects are lightweight, and this was the first project right out of the box. I think the router will still come in handy in a pinch, but it will be less of of a go-to tool than I was hoping for.
