Customer Questions & Answers

Asked by: MAGNUM
it has an automatic 3 year warranty. if you register it you get a lifetime service agreement [lsa]. i bought mine in january and did the registration. they also sent me an email saying they couldn't match up my purchase with their records and wanted the receipt with a copy of the email they sent me. i replied that they needed to check again since i bought it in-store and had furnished all the information required on the registration site, and that if they couldn't match it up to let me know so that i could return it and purchase a different brand. they replied that i did indeed need to send it in. i am trying to decide if i want to keep it or not. if they have such trouble verifying my purchase are they going to be dependable if any repairs are needed?

Could this router be used to put a 45 degree edge on deck top cap railing?

I have a deck that was built recently which was left with squared railing top caps. I would like to cut a 45 degree edge so it matches my new fence also. I thought rather than removing & cutting on a table saw I might be able to use a compact router instead?
Asked by: Mcgyver210
Routers are made to give you an edge on a 90-degree angle, or perpendicular to the base plate. If you had a router bit that had a 45-degree angle, then you could get an edge on a 45-degree angle.

Customer Reviews

5.5 Amp Corded Compact Router is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 245.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very well built, easy one hand operation. I've never owned a compact router, and almost always go to my big kit Dewalt. I was recently building a planter box, and pulled out this router over the Dewalt. At first I thought I got a bad unit. What I did not notice is that the router plate has a smaller diameter hole for the router bits, and attempting to lower the base plate was binding on the plexi plate. I moved to a smaller OD router bit and problem solved. That is a bitter sweet issue, but with the smaller motor it makes sense to limit the size of the bit to ensure long service life on the motor. Very sturdy, and easy to raise and lower the depth. Much quieter than my larger router.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product I used this router to install 8 doors over the weekend (using a hinge template). The Rigid Router was easy to control, had enough power for the job and worked flawlessly after initial adjustments. The LED light is a great idea and the dust shield is very helpful. Major downside is that this unit gets very hot, almost too hot to hold with gloves or careful hand placement on the router. The "quick release" feature is nice after you adjust it; my unit needed tightening using an 8-mm wrench otherwise the depth adjust would move (very bad b/c it will change cutting depth). Overall, I highly recommend this product unless you want to spend a little more on a more powerful, cooler running unit. The "Good" rating (vs. "Excellent") is because of the heat issue--this thing generates a lot of heat quickly.

It performed very well. I had an older two handled router that is more cumbersome to control than this was. It was easy to adjust depths. I even used the edge guide to cut a groove in the bottom of one door and that also worked well. Good value for the cost - I would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't say I didn't tell you to buy it... By far the cheapest trim router in its class and by far the most superior. I use this on all my projects. Great speed adjustment and great accessories come with it. It is fairly quiet and love how easy it is to hold. Very good line of sight to the bit and the LED light is useful. Comes with a handy little case for storage and lifetime service agreement to top it off. Only con is the power cord is a little short I find. But they do have an 18V brushless one so I might be splurging on that soon to go along with this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little tool. My big router is going to collect dust... Whether you buy this router or another brand, get one of these little routers. Definitely not just for trimming laminate. Full fledged router that fits in the palm of your hand. I mostly use 1/4" bits with pilot bearing to put round-over or 45 deg on edge of board. Or shallow cuts for hinges. This little router does all that and SO much easier than balancing a heavy router, tipping and gouging the edge of your work. I chose the Rigid for the LED light, clear base plate, wide visibility and quick adjust. I almost passed because of the switch location, but having used it for 1 week, now I really like it. The switch is on top and up/down (vs. a thumb rocker) so you can easily whack the top with your hand, your hip, or whatever to turn it off. Again...don't know why I didn't buy one of these sooner. My bigger router is going to collect more dust than it's going to make. Great little unit and a full fledged power tool.

My only complaint is the stop that prevents the base from being removed. It is much easier to change bits with the base removed. I can't see any good reason for this stop to be there, none of my other routers have this and I have never had a base fall off. I added a couple of drawer pulls for handles and this router is perfect for detail work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice device for the money I bought this to help my son with a physics project. I've never used a router before. For the price, this did a great job. Proper wood workers may prefer something else, but for a novice like me, it was perfect. All I had to do was attach the bit, attach the rail and start. My son was able to use it after a single demonstration. It also comes with a soft case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great size I'm in construction and I wanted a small Router to replace my old one at home. It's compact but had plenty of power to get through a wood in-lay in my Oak floor. I wouldn't do this every weekend but I'm impressed. Bottom line, I think you'll be happy. The only Cons are limited accessories and bit opening is a hair small. The latter is easily corrected.
