Product Overview

SHEETROCK Brand Lightweight All-Purpose 3.5 Gal. Joint Compound with Dust Control features a unique formula that binds up fine residue during sanding to form heavier particles that tend to fall to the floor instead of clouding the air. It bonds like a taping product for a tough, tight bond under most job conditions and combines all-purpose, single-package convenience with optimum taping and topping performance. Each job goes more quickly and cleans up faster with less nuisance from airborne sanding dust.

Can it be sprayed with a flowmaster

Asked by: Uma
Hello Uma, I’m Chris from the Home Depot’s how-to Community. Thank you for your question. No, this product has the consistency of something like peanut butter and cannot be sprayed. Taping or putty knives are how this is applied. I hope this helps, Chris. .

Regular joint compound dries to solid hard plug with not too much shrinkage. This stuff remains awfully fragile and shrinks a LOT. Will never buy again, and won't recommend to anybody. I have no idea how a respectful company would release such a junk, and a respectable retailer would sell such a scammy product

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Softer than normal compound Bonds well, and whatever the manufacturer did to make it "low dust" really works. Sure, it still gets dusty, but not nearly as much as regular compound. Sanding vertical corners and joints leaves a manageable pile of dust at the base of your work area, which means it's falling straight down and not dispersing through the air. The big downside is that it is really, REALLY soft compound. You can scratch and dig into finished sections with the faintest swipe of a fingernail. I plan on doing a final skim coat over vulnerable areas using a different product. Yes, for the right application, I would recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It Works! I agree with the previous reviewer- this compound sands easily and probably does not create micro-particles that float everywhere, but tends to drop straight down like its weighted. As with most ready-mixed joint compounds, it scratches easily- so this is not a particular problem with this compound. The paint is supposed to be the scratch resistant sealer for it. If you require more dent resistance, use "Easysand" dry mix (bag) joint compounds. Tougher, setting type (like plaster). Much softer than plaster but harder than ready mixed joint compound and much more difficult to sand as well- like sanding an extremely soft wood like balsa wood. Do not use a harder compound over a softer one as previously suggested. But it is standard for finishers to use the softer compound (this ready mix) over the harder (bag dry mix-setting type) compounds as the final finish (skim) coat., I am a construction professional with 35 years experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great Despite the negative reviews I tried this product because of the dust control feature and I have to say it did a great job overall. Yes some spots did take more than 24hr to fully dry but not much more. I feel it was an acceptable amount of time. The finished product does feel a little soft and can dent with a finger nail but overall it makes it way easier to sand! During sanding it would drop quickly to the floor and did not linger in the air very long. I would definitely buy this again!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dust drops straight down! This joint compound really does what it says - controls dust. The dust from sanding mostly drops straight down, but a little bit still floats around the room you're working in. I guess I could have used a vacuum sander if I wanted perfect results. The dust control feature was particularly important to me, since I was doing work in an our current house rather than new construction. We didn't have to dust off furniture in every room afterwards. The joint compound does dry soft, as other reviews have mentioned.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Makes a big difference for ceiling sanding My problem was I had to do some ceiling repair in an existing home. Having done this before with regular joint compound, I knew just how difficult it was with regard to dust. This stuff actually works for dust control! It solves about 80% of the problem. Most drops straight down with just a little dispersing. Huge help! My can was smooth as butter. The poor guy who got bubbles must have had a bad batch. My batch had very good quality. A few other thoughts and observations: - As other mentioned, it dries soft. I actually thought it was still wet when I did a fingernail test. No, it is just soft. Being that this was on a ceiling that was about to get coats of paint, it wasn't a problem for me. - It clogs sandpaper faster. I would vacuum my sandpaper and sandblock sponge occasionally. That helps. But I found it slightly more difficult to sand due to the minor clogging. - It seemed marginally more difficult to spread. Maybe the way it is bound (larger particles?) made it "stickier" or something, so spreading it was slightly more difficult. Despite some of slight drawbacks, the dust help outweighs them, especially when working on ceilings. I'll use this again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst joint compound This stuff is less dusty but it shrinks way more than any joint compound I have ever used, takes a long time to dry even with a fan blowing on it and a dehumidifier in the same room on high, has a lot of holes in it, cracking after 1 week, hard to sand because it just eats sand paper, and it is damaged very easily when dry

Rated 2 out of 5 by from wish I had read reviews first If you have the time to wait for this stuff to dry (well over 24 hours) than it might be a good product for you. I have waited 48 hours and it's still not dry. Yes the mix creates less dust when sanded but at what cost? More cure time and more sandpaper use? Time is usually a premium for everyone. I won't use this product again.
