Yes, you can contact your local Home Depot to have wood custom sized to cut.

Can this be used for a simple book shelf?

Asked by: Kaye
It can, only if supported correctly. The thicker ¾” (23/32) might be a better choice depending on the weight of the books.

Can I build a hand rail with this wood

Asked by: Diamondimes
You could but plywood is not the best wood for a handrail because of its propensity to splinter.

Customer Reviews

Sanded Plywood (Common: 1/2 in. x 2 ft. x 4 ft.; Actual: 0.451 in. x 23.75 in. x 47.75 in.) is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from inconsistent product The description of these handy panels says "Product may vary by store." Apparently, they mean that. This past week, I bought 12 of these panels at my local Home Depot store. They were blemish free and had almost no knots. I would have given them five stars. Today I went back to purchase 10 more panels. The ones in the store now have cracks and many knots (one star for an average of three). They also have only four rough layers in the plywood, whereas the previous ones had seven clean, well-defined layers. By the way, the ones in the current on-line picture have five layers. There could be more quality control on these panels.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked for me in a non-cosmetic application I'd imagine the quality of these boards can vary a great deal from one batch to another, and even within the same bin. Mine was decent, though. It measured exactly 2' x 4' long. Fairly smooth, just a few knots on one side, and none on the other. Because I was covering the board with a rubber yoga mat, the appearance of the wood wasn't important to me. I wrapped the mat around both ends and used a staple gun to affix it securely, voila, a cheap dog ramp in less than 5 minutes. It's plenty sturdy for my 60-lb dog.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not advertised size Purchased the sheet in the store. Brought it home, primed it and then went to measure and cut the pieces I needed. Found the 4' length was only 43". Had to take it back for exchange. made sure I measured the next pc in the store and not trust dimensions listed on the bin.
