Q:Hi is this okay to use as garden pot? I need to know if its safe for planting
    by|Mar 12, 2024

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Taylor - Yes, these can be used for planting, many people use them. You might want to punch some holes in the bottom to allow for drainage. Please note that we do not consider the orange buckets to be food safe. There is a slim chance that there is reground resin in the manufacture and there is the orange coloring on which we have no data on potential leeching. You can place a Mylar bag in before the soil (again poke some holes for drainage) if that is of concern to you.

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Nikki - Our bucket are made from High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and so they are marked with the number 2. Check with your municipality before recycling. Some do not take 5-gallon buckets.

Q:How much concrete (50/60/80lbs) will a 5 gallon bucket hold?
        by|Feb 25, 2024

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi Denise - we test at a lifting weight of 84lbs. It depends, too, on how far you are going to carrying it, or if you are keeping it stationary. If it is staying in one place, you could go heavier, but if the bucket will be moved you might want to go lighter. An 80lb bag may not fit into a bucket. The diameter of the buckets is approx 12.41 " and the height is approx 14.7". I don't know the weight or volume of concrete would be that would fit into a 5-gallon bucket. They hold approximately 1,155 cubic inches.

          Never ever buy homer buckets
Not sure when the quality of these buckets took a nose dive, used to be a solid product. Purchased 21 homer buckets to handle ore samples, left me with nothing but regret. Out of the 21 buckets, only 11 will still hold water, the rest have cracked at the bottom. Nearly a 50% failure rate, unreal. If you think you're saving money by getting homer buckets, think again. Find buckets elsewhere, that's all I can say.

It was orange. It matched my orange bucket lid. That matched my orange reloading equipment. I like orange.

Southern Sweeps and Hearthstonesupply uses these buckets daily hauling small stones and rocks up and down scaffolding to get the job done. They work great.

Bottom cracked open in three places
I bought this years ago to store some rice in. I never got around to doing it as the survivalist interest passed for me. One day I picked it up and there was three wide gaps in the bottom like the plastic shrunk and separated. It was kept inside the house and never used. I'm sure glad I didn't use it for food storage.

They don’t make them like they used to
Used a new HD bucket for dust collection and the bucket collapsed from the vacuum pressure. Switched to a super beat up old bucket (not HD) and it held up just fine

                  Cheap plastic handle fails
The Home Depot 'Homer' bucket at one time was durable and lasted for years. Today, this bucket is cheaply made and doesn't last. The plastic grip is thinly made and fails quickly, too quickly.
