Q:Can you use Preen before mulch and again after mulch? I always have weeds come through my mulch.
by|May 9, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your inquiry. Preen Garden Weed Preventer can be applied atop your mulch to help control the label listed weed seeds that may be in the mulch. You can apply to the weed free bare soil first, then use your mulch and then apply another light application of Preen atop your mulch. Water in to activate and you can reapply every 9-12 weeks. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at 1-800-233-1067. Thank you!

Q:Is this appropriate to use on a gravel driveway?
              by|Apr 21, 2023
              1 Answer
              Answer This Question

A:  Preen products may be applied atop of gravel, however a driveway is not recommended as the driving of the vehicles will break the weed barrier the product is trying to create and erratic weed control will occur. Thank you!

Q:Last year I had a lot of crab grass growing in my flower bed. Im assuming the roots are still underground, will this prevent it from coming back? Also, does this have a shelf life?

                      Answer This Question

A:  It should help. First I would dig up all the crab grass and any other weeds you can see. Then sprinkle the entire bed with Preen and top with 2" - 3" of mulch. If it is not going to rain in the next day or two, water your plant bed. Water is what activates Preen.

A:  No, this will not prevent existing crabgrass from returning.  It will help prevent crabgrass from starting in the first place.  If you have existing crabgrass, you can either pull it out by hand, or spray it with a strong herbicide such as roundup (grass and weed).  Just be mindful where you use the Roundup, as it does what it says, and will kill everything.
