First time using
I ordered this mower online thru the Home Depot mobile app. Received it April 27th and tried mowing the yard today May 9th. Made eight passes and the mower started acting up. Self propel wouldn't engage and it chewed up the belt. I don't recommend

    Good Machine easy to store
It comes 97% ready to go. You need to ADD the oil (comes included) perfect amount. And assemble the clippings bag. Easy to use one pull start and Metal deck. Motor is not too loud and machine is light in weight but rugged built. Definitely built to last.

    Right outta the box
There is a sticker on the engine head that reminds you to be careful of the wrapping. When you try to remove the sticker it goes as pictured. Douchebags.

Great mower, easy to set up
I bought this mower at about noon today, stopped and re-filled my gas can, set the mower up and by 2 pm I was done mowing and watching the Masters! Super easy to put together and mowed my yard very well. Loved how easy the deck is to raise and lower and the manual was easy to follow. Self propel works great and you can go as fast or slow as you want. PS - I’m a 43 year old Mom!

        Blade hitting housing
Purchased this mower mainly to cut down on my weed eating. So, I only use it Mabie once a month. After about 6 months the blade started hitting part of the plastic housing on one side. As you can see in the picture it looks like some debris is collecting between the metal and plastic pushing it towards the tip of the blade. Poor design. A simple fix was to just install a couple of self-tapping screws just above and below where the blade is pulling the plastic housing out of the way of the blade.

Last Honda product i will ever buy
Uneven cut, leaves stripes, see pics, honda warranty service is terrible. Warranty requires using authorized repair shop, they said "within specs, nothing honda will do." Out $50+$450, stay away from honda, not like they used to be and not worth the money.

            Terrible Decision
You always want to ask the mower service what brand do they see the most. I didn't need to; Honda mowers as far as the eye can see. The service center was so painfully aware that these mower are bad, they couldn't in good faith charge me for the second service. Save yourself the trouble if you are are a consumer user and find another brand. Honda will not let you return these, even if they are lemons, and believe me, I got one here.

Honda Design Defect, Cuts Extremely Uneven, Beware
With bermuda grass, height makes a big difference. Hondas wheel adjustment design is defective so the mower is way lower on the right, even with adjusters set the same. With this Design Defect, this Honda cannot be corrected. Picture worth 1000 words

Power drive failed in first hour!
I bought this mower as I have never been disappointed in a Honda product. Engine runs fine and cuts well. Power drive surged in first 20 minutes of use and then never worked again. Now in the midst of a pandemic I have to deal with a warranty repair. Unacceptable!

BEST mower ever, ALWAYS starts on first pull!
This mowers ALWAYS starts. Best mower I have ever owned, the self propulsion is excellent and the height choices are everything from very close/low to the ground up to very high for outer property mowing. I have to go up and down hills in my yard and it is excellent...I bought and returned two other mowers before buying this one and am so happy I held out for the best mower ever.

                    Safety
I’ve owned this mower for over 25 years. On my 3rd one. Today I was mowing a rather steep incline next to a drainage ditch and underestimated my footing. I slipped and tumbled backwards on my bottom down the hill and quickly put my foot in the air to stop the mower from rolling over me. It all happened soooo fast! I’m so happy to say that as I let go the mower stopped running and the self-propelled part saved my bacon!!! I got up, dusted my bum…. And am back at it. I’ve had this mower since 2009. My son surprised me with it as my previous one was at least 10 years old. Great Mower!!!! Safe!!!!!

GCV 170 Honda Self Propel Mower Sucks!
We bought this mower in November being proactive for the summer months. First thing that happened was the cover for the filter broke off, then the entire assembly on the front that's made of PLASTIC broke away from the metal base of the mower!!! I called and they want me to drive it across town after spending 419.00 for this piece of junk then have to wait two MONTHS to get it approval for repairs!!!

                        Great lawn mower!
Years ago, I spent my summers working with a lawn care company that exclusively used Snapper lawn mowers. I can remember those commercial, walk-behind self-propelled mowers being $6-700 and that was 20 years ago. I used them daily. Back then, Snapper was a big name, especially in the professional/commercial lawn trade. My point is, this mower feels just as sturdy as those! It’s “heavy” but not too heavy and really moves when you need it to. I really put it to the test on my first mow. I started to cut and was a 1/3 of the way through when a rain shower popped up out of nowhere. The grass was thick (1 week since last mow - St. Augustine grass - southern LA) and now wet. This mower handled it with ease. Never bogged down or clogged (mulch setting). The most time consuming thing was washing the mower out. A hose connection on the deck is the one thing this mower lacks. I do love the extra large gas fill opening and the adjustible smart drive lever settings. Mower cuts and mulches better than I have seen. I am impressed and can’t wait to make an even better cut with dry grass! Overall, this is great mower for any homeowner! And it’s a Honda! I HIGHLY recommend!

Every newer model gets slightly worse
I've been using Honda mowers for 5 years now. The first Honda mower I own and still use is great. Obvously there are some things you would like to change, but the older model did its job. This newer though is definitely more frustrating. It cuts great and operation is a breeze, however here are the two issues I have... 1. A lot of the parts are cheap and made of plastic so they break easier. In the pictures I posted you can tell the difference in quality. 2 The mower bag does not fit inside the typical lawn bag (brown paper bag). Therefore you make quite a mess trying to get the grass from the mower bag to the brown bag. The older models bag fit perfectly inside. Just for reference, I have had this newer model for a year and the plastic piece that is connected to the wheels broke off. Other then those problems, I still think the Honda mowers are the best for your money.

Poor Product Quality, Even Worse Customer Service
Although my review is not in relation to Home Depot or it's products, this is in relation to this mower. I am posting this same review to as many venues as possible to get myself heard. My wife and I purchased a HRX217K6VKAA on May 1. We were able to cut our grass three times before it stopped propelling forwards and the wheels would lock in reverse. Since our lawnmower was registered and under warranty, we took it to our local Service Repair who had to file a claim with Honda and request the replacement belt be shipped to them. A month later and after contacting Honda ourselves, we still do not have the replacement belt that is covered under warranty. Have been promised status phone calls that have never happened. Promised dates of shipping that still has not happened. Not only would I advise against this failing mower, but also Honda as a whole because if something breaks, you can expect the same poor treatment and delays in honoring your warranty.

                              12 Weeks then Died
I have only used this 12 times and it broke. I was just mowing on my flat grass normally, when the self propeller jerked suddenly, took off, pulling me, then stopped working, had to push it hard and then completely shut down. There was a smell of smoke so I shut it off. Then when I tried to start it again the engine was completely locked up and won’t turn on. I had my old Honda mower for 15 years and it was awesome, sturdy and dependable. This one is much more fragile.

Purchased to replace an older Honda lawn mower, which had problems with back wheels locking up when pulling mower backwards. Prior to purchasing my second Honda, I purchased a Toro personal pace mower. I was totally disappointed in this mower and returned it. I thought it would handle my hilly yard better than the Honda, since it had 4 wheel drive, however that was not the case. The new Honda out performs the old Honda and is far superior in construction and maneuverability than the Toro. The Honda definitely meets my expectations as I am 69 year old female with a challenging yard to mow. The only thing I dislike is when I am mowing a hill it tends to sputter like the gas isn't being fed consistently when the mower is at an angle. Mower was purchased at the of May 2021.

If you want a lawnmower that will always be dependable, buy a Honda. It's the Weber Genesis of lawnmowers. It will always start first or second pull, cuts great, and will probably be the last lawnmower you'll buy.

Buy a Toro or Cub Cadet!
I bought this to replace my 20 some year old Cub Cadet mower that finally had the deck rot away. Here's an honest review. Pros: Like all Honda products I have owned, the engine is lightweight, plenty powerful and reliable. the adjustable self-propel speed is a nice surprise and works well. However, unless you made yard work and cutting your grass one of your hobbies, buy something else. Cons: The discharge chute is poorly designed. unless you cut your grass every 3 days, it will continuously clog with either wet or any grass longer than 1 1/2" above your cut height when bagging. Also when bagging, the mower leaves more behind than it puts in the pick-up bag. As for mulching, it's not very good at that either. It consistently eaves clumps or lines. In summation, if you don't mind cutting your grass twice every time you got to cut it, then this one is okay. If you don't have either the inclination or time to cut your grass two times, every time you want to cut it, get something else. NOTE TO HONDA ENGINEERS: Open the entire back to the bag as a discharge chute like other manufacturers have done and design a better circulating system for mulching. Yours sucks.

                                    nice upgrade
My 190cc Craftsman sheered its holding bracket so needed an immediate purchase. What a difference. Put together in about 5 minutes and i was cutting the lawn before 8:00am. It’s a honda so 10-15 decibels less than the big Briggs and Stratton. First time start up is nice. It pushed so much easier than the craftsman that i barely ever used the self-propel. So fluid. The bagging does an excellent job of filling to the top. I get twice the coverage before having to dump the bag. Did a good but not great job picking up the dogwood flowers. Much better than the craftsman though. Wlould have peferred a 22” platform.

Good power, but a few weakness
Good power for mulching, self-propelling, easy to start, reasonably light. A few fatal weakness: The handle bar is too low, you have to lower your body to mow the lawn even though I am one 5ft10. The self-propelling design is poor. On the first use on my .2 acre lawn, self-propelling stopped working. I checked the system and found that the driving belt was nearly torn apart as it moving against the metal parts. The machine seems brand new, does not seem to be a used and returned one. I probably can change the belt to make it work again but it would too costly if I have to change it several times a year. I will return it. I would not recommend it unless the manufacture can show that this machine is a special case with a malfunction self-driving system.

If you like mowing twice, buy this one
This mower doesn’t do it’s one job well. That is cutting. The cut is so poor you have to mow twice. I am not exaggerating. The owner’s manual even says you have to go over the cutting line with half the mower covering the already-cut area. The time I spend mowing now has drastically increased from the Cub Cadet I had before. Also, the mower doesn’t bag well either. Generally, one should be able to run over yard debris, gum wrappers blown into the yard, and leaves with the expectation that it will go into the bag. Nope. This kicks those items right out the side for you to try to pick up on your next lap. Again, nope. This mower is the pinnacle of frustration. It pushes easy and the self-propel works great; which comes in handy because you’ll be pushing it a lot more around your yard than a mower that actually cuts. Also, having the Honda motor is more of a curse than a blessing because it’ll run forever, frustrating me for years to come. Pass on this one. Spend less, or equal to, on a cub cadet and get better quality cut.

Honda! Once again! I was thinking about a used mower; because, they last forever. Why not be the one to ride it hard and not worry about when it will be over! Hardest part was getting it out of the box. Flip up the handle and follow all the other directions I guess. Put gas and pull her finger I’ll tell you what?! Easy start. Has the ability to drive the wheels. Need for some tall grass situations. Gives you and extra push that is controllable. Im not a good lawn person but I had fun. I am looking forward to cutting my own grass for as long as I can. Recommend!

                                            Honda Quality
I bought this Honda HRN 216 VKA to replace a 20 year old Ariens that I had bought new. So, since I had not been shopping for a push mower in two decades - I spent quite a bit of time doing online research. I narrowed it down to this Honda and a Toro Super Recycler. The Honda won me over due to it’s reputation for long lasting quality. So far I am sufficiently impressed. One pull starts, well thought out controls and ease of operation are miles ahead of basic mowers of old. Cut quality in mulching mode was very good. No visible clippings left behind. My old Ariens actually had a little better bagger design, but that’s a small consideration. I am really hopeful that this new Honda will last 20 years.

I did a considerable amount of research before buying this mower. It has high end features, at mid-level pricing. I bought this model to replace my 20+ year old Honda mower. The Honda mowers start on the first pull. This model has a much larger gas tank. I can mow the lawn twice before having to refill. The two height adjustment levers control both front and rear wheels, which is a very nice improvement over having a lever for each wheel. Switching between bagging and mulching is very easy, using one lever. The variable speed is a great enhancement over the older, one speed fits all controller. The mower feels very sturdy, the cables and connections are heavy duty. I expect this mower will probably outlast my old Honda mower and start on the first pull, every Spring

Single dad with 3 kids. Saved up to buy a decent mower so got this with hopes the kids can enjoy running around in the grass. Used this thing once like 6 weeks ago and now it won't start. Yes, I used the fuel treatment. This thing cost me almost $500. I know that's not much to some but I have to account for every dollar to just get by and now that this thing is broken I dont have money to repair it or get a new one. Home Depot told me the return policy is only 30 days, no exceptions. They made sure to say that last part just in case I had any hope. So depressed now and I can't cut my grass, kids can't play, and I can't afford anything else.
