Hello. Our alarms have a unique way of testing the batteries. They test the resistance of the battery while the alarm is powered by the battery and measures how the resistance changes. This is a more accurate way to test the battery but it means a battery with 9.25 volts when not powering anything might not have the power necessary while powering the alarm, especially a carbon zinc battery. When the alarm goes into low battery for the first time, the battery has to have enough power for the alarm to chirp every 30 seconds for 7 days and still detect smoke and go off for one solid hour without affecting the pitch or volume of the alarm. Since the speaker takes up the most power in the alarm, it takes a powerful battery to accomplish this, almost a very good battery, and a battery can test as still good even when the alarm thinks the battery is low. It sounds like a dud battery but that was low though it still read 9.2 when not powering anything. The battery should be changed every 6 months to a year with a brand and model of battery as listed in the owner's manual. Other batteries can read as low when they are not. If you choose a carbon-zinc battery, we would strongly recommend a battery with a good use-by date of 2 years out from the current year. If you choose an alkaline battery, we would strongly recommend a battery with a good use-by date of at least 3 or 4 years out from the current date. Batteries close to their use-by date can sometimes not be powerful enough to power the alarm for 6 months to a year and can sometimes not be powerful enough for the alarm not to read it as low.

Hello. Have you done any construction lately or anything that might have brought up a lot of dust and debris? Where is the alarm located in the house? Is it in one of the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manual? This would especially include alarms being installed within 3 ft (.9m) of a forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling, ceiling or whole house ventilating fans, or other high air flow areas. We recommend that alarms not be installed near vents, flues, chimneys, or fans. We recommend that alarms not be installed near doors or windows near areas directly exposed to the weather. We strongly recommend not to install these alarms in garages, attics, and crawl spaces as you will get temperatures, dust, insects, and chemicals that can cause nuisance alarms. Try cleaning out the alarm and looking at the location. To clean, hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). To clean, hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year and at this point we would recommend cleaning out all of your other alarms as well as a preventative. Some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manual. We do recommend cleaning out the alarms every 6 months to a year or more often depending on what is going on in that location. If cleaning isn't helping with the issue then some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manual. Hello. Yes, as when you buy batteries, you can occasionally get a dud battery. A new battery will fix the issue.
