I’ve purchased one of these alarms for my current house. They went off numerous of times throughout the day and night. I contacted Kidde and they sent a replacement which also was faulty. I called a second time and stated that it should be recalled due to false alarms sounding all the time. The person I spoke to brushed it off and asked if I vacuum the alarm etc. After all the issues with this alarm and another different type of alarm. It’s worrisome if they will work during an actually fire. I think I’ll switch to another popular brand.

Nuisance alarms, particularly in the middle of the night, are caused by something interfering with the sensor. These units are looking for particles of combustion, so when a small insect or piece of dust gets into the sensor (*located inside of the unit) the unit will interpret this as smoke particles. We recommend using compressed air, through the side vents/ bug screen and blowing out/cleaning the alarm really well. For further assistance, please call Kidde support at 1-800-880-6788. bad battery?
I just purchased this product in March, less than five months ago, And woke up to a battery low chirping noise. I’ll change the battery and see what happens but hopefully it lasts longer. Otherwise it’s a good product, it’s not sensitive to smells from cooking or steam from showering.

Don't bother!
Don't bother buying these, unless you want to get woken up in the middle of the night! They were fine for the first couple of months but within the last 2 weeks we have had 3 randomly go off, after that happens it will go off every 30mins until I take the battery out. Waiting to see when the rest will start doing it! Have tried cleaning them and changed batteries and still keeps happening. We bought 8, waste of $120, not happy!

These alarms are just what I needed to have an...
These alarms are just what I needed to have an alarm in each room. The installation was simple and easy with only a screwdriver.
Then I checked each one, after I installed the battery that came with it. They are quite loud and no way could I sleep through that noise. We have not had a fire so I don't know about that part, but I certainly feel safer with a new smoke detector in every room.
