Embrace your inner builder and plant parent when you create this DIY crate plant stand. Once built, you can proudly display all your houseplants with ease anywhere in your home.
Tools & Materials
Before you begin, make sure you have these materials:
- Wooden crates in multiple sizes
- Tapered furniture legs: 8-inch, 12-inch and 16-inch.
- Angled top plates
- 1 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch wood screws
- Wood glue
- Screwdriver or power drill
- Measuring tape
- Water protectant finish
- Paintbrush
- Safety glasses
Position Your Crates
Decide the orientation of crates for the plant stand. This can be tiered or in an L-shape based on space requirements and style. Feel free to be creative to decide what works well for you.
Attach the Top Plates
Attach angled top plates to the base of the crates. For the corner crates, they are oriented so the legs taper out to the sides. For middle crates, they are oriented to the front and back.
Measure & Mark
Measure and mark the height to attach the crates. In our case, the legs are in 4-inch increments, hence the crates will be attached in 4-inch intervals.
Attach the Crates
- Apply wood glue and attach the crates together using 1 1/4-inch wood screws.
- Repeat step 4 and 5 till all crates are attached.
Attach the Legs
Add the tapered legs by simply screwing them into the top plates.
Attach Any Extra Crates
Attach any extra crates as needed. We added a small crate in the front. Use wood glue and 1/2-inch wood screws when attaching through thinned slats.
Apply the Finish
Apply a poly acrylic finish to protect the wood from water spills.

One your crates are complete, load them up with your favorite plants!
