Water comes in through the main line and waits for the valve to open. Once open the valve lets water flow through to the zone, watering that area, so you don't have to drag a hose to water it. ( cuz cops hate hose dragers) Read Less

Answer:
This manifold is to irrigate the back yard. IT was to replace a broken pipe that had an Orbit vacuum breaker valve on it. Orbit changed the materials and I had to change the irrigation design. I suspect the Orbit will change the new one to another design in few years. So I had to dig new supply lines and re-design the existing irrigation system to accommodate the new in ground manifold system.

Answer:
Back flow and anti-siphon requirements are generally set by municipal code. You will need to contact your local municipality to clarify what is required when installing an irrigation system. As far as functionality, our valves do not require anti-siphon to function properly.

Rated 2.9 out of 5 by 42 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 2 Valve Inline Manifold Assembly The Preassembled Manifold is the most complete, reliable, and easy method to install multi-valve systems that I have ever used. This system works with both 3/4 in. and 1 in. systems. Included is Orbit's jar-top valves for easy valve maintenance. The Easy Wire system simplifies the wiring connection when attaching the valve to the timer. The preassembled manifold is durable, built with high impact UV resistant construction. • 2 valves • Installs in minutes; no tools required (Hand tighten fittings). • Controls water flow for 2 sprinkler lines • Works with PVC and poly pipe systems; adapters for 3/4 in. and 1 in. PVC pipe included Would recommend the Orbit Valve Box base for mounting the manifold in a secure place. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quick and easy way to add 3 new zones to my drip irrigation! Orbit's 3-Valve Inline Manifold Assembly provides an easy method to install new or additional zones for sprinkler or drip irrigation systems. I am adding three poly pipe drip zones to my current system. One for my deck flowers and herbs. Another for a large raised bed garden, and the third for a new smaller raised bed. I currently have drip lines running to everything, All beds, bird feeder, scrubs, even my fountains. Needed to buy a 7x power line for this upgrade which now gives me 11 zones to work with. Very easy to install this unit, no tools required - hand tighten. Works with PVC and poly pipe systems; adapters for 3/4 in. and 1 in. PVC pipe included June 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Orbit Manifold This system was built for us by a customer service specialist in the store and we simply took it home and replaced our old manifold. System is running perfectly June 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by First Rate Sprinkler Valve system The Orbit three valve sprinkler valves system is of high quality and very easy to install. In the past I have purchased the components needed to build a sprinkler manifold and really like that this system is already complete and I can still add additional zone valves as needed. The union connections only need to be hand tightened, so there is no need for a lot of tools. The instruction book is very thorough and gives a nice diagram to hook up the wiring to the controller. May 31, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by No Leaks Yet ! Let me say this up front ... the true verdict will come when the valves/solenoids are put to the longevity test since earlier reviews posted at the Orbit website all mention leaks as a fatal flaw; I haven't had my first one after a month's history. I've had unacceptable performance from solenoid valves installed by the pros, seldom getting three years' use before requiring replacement. I'm relying heavily on Orbit's 6-yr warranty to assure me I'll do better with this product. But for the rest of the story, I've got to say Orbit hit a home run. The layout of these manifolds are awesome; the quality of construction is terrific, the set up for installation was well thought out. All PVC, out-of-the box compatible with 3/4 or 1". Quick disconnect unions. Easy to expand [I combined this 3-value manifold to a 2-valve manifold for my application.] Clear instructions. No tools; hand tighten only. These manifolds are made from high-impact, UV-resistant plastic. Because of that, I chose to install these above-ground, exposed to the elements. Better for me to check for those leaks. The only way Orbit could have improved the product is to have included a roll of the recommended thread tape. The bottom of the box indicates the product has three possible sourcing countries ... U.S., China, and Taiwan. Mine came from Taiwan. May 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works as advertised. I have installed three of these manifolds now and they have worked perfectly and had no leaks. May 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DO NOT BUY! This is the worst valve system and no matter what you do, it will leak. I've tried plumbers putty, Teflon tape and a even PVC glue and the darn thing will leak. Also no anti-siphoning. Way too expensive and Ive spent over 10 hours on this to make it work without leaking....I want my money back and my time back. May 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works as advertised I need to replace my existing 3 zone sprinkler value hub and I didn't want to waste all day doing it. This 3 value manifold was ready to install out of the box. Cut the old values out, set the new one in place, and glued the pipes. I replaced my existing system within 30 minutes. If you can see in the picture, the wire box is not housing the wires for me because my wires are too thick and the box is too small. They just pop out. Installed a month ago and everything is working fine, no leaks and no mechanical problems so far. July 15, 2014
