Maple seed pods (Helicopters)

A handyman bought these at Home Depot and installed. I am finding TONS of the maple seed pods (helicopters) stuck in the grooves, standing upright on top of the guard. Will they eventually dry up and blow off or disintegrate and fall through the holes, which would NOT be good? The pods are very visible and look bad. It's defeating the purpose if I have to get on a ladder and clean them out by hand. I have contacted the handyman service and we decided to wait and see what will happen in the coming weeks.

I put these on my last house and I do remember the helicopters doing that. I don't remember having to get up there and remove them though. I was planning on putting these on my new house but when I saw your question I was curious what you found happened to them.

what is the best way to cut these?

Asked by: PO
Thanks for your question. You should be able to cut these with a pair of tin snips since they are made of wire mesh.

tile roof application

I have low profile, S tile roof and want to know if these will work for covering my gutters? There is a little overhang of the tile over the gutter. thanks,
Asked by: md
Thanks for your question. The lock on gutter guards fit a 5" K-style gutter. It is the front edge of the guard that fits on the front of the gutter with the back edge resting on top of the gutter hangers. Without visually seeing your roof and gutter system, we cannot say how these will work for you. The overhanging tile over the gutter should not be an issue as long as there is enough room to get the back of the guard to the back edge of the gutter.

3 ft. Lock-on Black Gutter Guard (5-Pack) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Had part of my gutter installed with these covers about 10 years ago when I had a roof replaced. I later regretted not having the entire gutter system done, but could not find the product and did not know the brand.. Better installed when roof and gutters are replaced but worked well as a retrofit. Installed them myself. They are metal so will not get brittle from the UV rays. Best guards I have found. Never had to clean a gutter in the area I had installed 10 years ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Work Great I installed these a couple of years ago........ You can cut with tin snips, bend with pliers to shape if needed, they do not sag or move.... I have a lot of green ash & a couple of maples and the guards have worked great. very reasonable price compared to plastic, if you have trees this is what you want. I looked for 2-3 years before I found these....... Great item!!!!!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Effective and easy to install After researching various brands/designs of gutter guards, I settled on this one. The price is very reasonable and the product appears to be well constructed and durable, as it is made of powder-coated metal. Other brands have design flaws that either don't allow water to flow well through it, allow debris through it, aren't aesthetically pleasing and/or can blow away with strong winds. After receiving the product and first installing it, I discovered that my gutters were not exactly the same "K-type" that the guard is best suited for. This was not a problem since the guard is easily bendable and can be cut quickly and easily with wire cutters. Instead of laying the back of the guard on top of the back of the gutter, I simply tucked the back of the guard underneath the shingles above and then snapped the front of the guard onto the front of the gutter as described in the instructions. This may actually work better since the guard is at a slant (instead of flat) and will more easily allow debris to fall off of it rather than get stuck on top of it. As long as your gutters are 5-inches wide, you should be able to get these installed. The only time you really need to cut them is at the end of the gutter or on corners. So far, this product seems to work well. It allows water to freely flow through it and into the gutter, blocks larger debris (such as leaves) from getting through and is firmly attached to the gutter without coming loose on windy days. The guard may let smaller debris (such as tree seeds, very small leaves and shingle "sand") to get through and as so may need some periodic maintenance, but it is easy to spray water through it and clear anything like that out. As an alternative to the very expensive "gutter helmet" guards, this product is probably the best value and the most effective out there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product This was recommended by a person who installed gutters. It was easy to install and works great. We have had some heavy rain and leaves are starting to fall. I does great for letting the water in the gutter and the leaves out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I am very picky about what goes into/onto my house and these gutter guards are great. Built in the US! Affordable, easy to install. Cuts easily with tin snips for making corners. Happy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product solved one problem but created another I bought this product to prevent leaves and other airborne debris from filling up the gutters on my house and subsequently clogging the downspouts. The guards were easy to install and do indeed prevent most of the leaves and pine needles from reaching the gutters, but only by catching the stuff in the mesh of the guards themselves, as shown in the photograph. I used to have to hire someone to clean the gutters once a year. Now I have to hire someone to clean the gutter guards.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to keep leaves out of gutters These guards are easy to install and snap in place to make a secure cover. They are sold as a 5 pack carton when ordered on-line for delivery for store pickup. They are also sold as individual guards in the store so you can buy just what is required. Trimming to the needed length at the end of a gutter is easy with a hand sheet metal pliers.
