Answer:
If the 2x4 comes off it will be because the surface layer of the top separated from the layers underneath, not because the adhesive failed. This stuff is permanent if the material to which it is attached does not fail. You could attach your bike to your F-16 if you have one.

Answer:
Yes, understand though that the purpose of this compound is to permanently seal a deck to the hull of a boat. Short of a piano wire saw and linear access this stuff is forever. I used it to adhere teak to gelcoat, it is there forever.

Answer:
While we have not tested it for a pottery birdbath it will most likely work as it is a marine grade adhesive that can be used above and below the waterline for marine repairs. Thanks for asking!

Customer Reviews

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for sealing holes on boat I thought this stuff worked really well, a bit hard ot clean up but I guess that is what makes it a good product. June 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good boot adhesive The rubber soles of my boots were de-laminating from the leather body. I searched a few hiking forums, and 5200 was one of the recommended adhesives to repair it. I can verify it works really well! I treated it like any other adhesive, including clamping it for 24 hours. Then went on a 20 mile hike, and all is well. It holds and it is waterproof. Too bad the store doesn't carry the black color version. Also, a smaller package at a cheaper price would be nice for these one-shot jobs. But that's nit picking. It was still a lot cheaper than throwing the boots away or professional repair. October 4, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mr I have been using this product around the house and farm for over 7 years. It is remarkable! My first use of the product was when I discovered two lines leaking on my brother's hot tub. The tub had been installed in such a manner as to make it impossible to replace the plastic pipes unless the tub was completely disconnected and removed. Had to crawl into a very narrow space to apply. Tub was back in operation in 3 days and never leaked again. Since that time I have used it for numerous repairs of PBC pipe and fiberglass containers both in out buildings, portable equipment lines and on equipment cattle watering lines. It has enough flex and strength to withstand the bumping by cattle without breaking for long periods of time. The secret of the successful use, though, is always to allow more “set time” than indicated on the tube. October 27, 2010
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PERMANENT! 3m makes 3000, 4000, 42000 and 52000. This is 5200, it is PERMANENT. do not use if you ever want to take something apart... ever! It is used to put the deck on hulls of boats! 95% of the time a consumer really wants 4000 or 4200, both are very strong but will come apart if need be. About the only way to get past 5200 once it has cured is with a piano wire saw, and that presumes you can get to it with a piano wire saw. August 26, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Removing 5200 Easy to remove. Use a heat gun to warm the part (if possible) then use the heat gun to heat the putty knife blade as hot as possible, Push the blade through the adhesive - reheat the blade and repeat as neded. That is how we boaters do it. September 22, 2012
