Answer:
Dryer vents need to be cleaned now and then anyway to keep any possibility of fires but the interior screen will prevent rodents and the flap will prevent insects from entering.

Answer:
The vent should have a 'flapper', or a small top-hinged door that closes when the dryer is off.
If the flapper is not part of the assembly this may not be the right part for your application.

"Built in screen to prevent insect entry (Must be removed if using for Dryer Venting)" is in the description then the tech says "You can't remove it without professional assistance."

Well which is it? I want critters to stay out but want to use for a dryer. Can't the screen just be made so it is removable? Once a month remove, rinse and reinstall. That's how my current one is but it is on the roof. I am trying to keep from having to climb up onto my roof once a month. This is unnecessarily dangerous and i want to be able to clean my vent while on the ground. Nice and safe.

Answer:
I left the answer to a similar question that should appear on the Home Depot web site under this product.
Essentially you would have to carefully cut and pull the mesh from the clamping ring with pliers or a similar tool from inside the pipe side. Not easy at all.
Another option would be a small power tool like a Dremel rotary tool. Again, not easy.

Answer:
From what we could see there are two possibilities, both tricky.
The first would be to carefully cut the mesh with a pair of wire cutters (end-cutting). cut around the circle from inside the pipe side as closely as possible to the sides. bend the remaining stubs outward so they don't catch lint.
The second is to slit the mesh into several pie-shaped quadrants and remove them with needle-nosed pliers

The second is to slit the mesh into several pie-shaped quadrants and remove them with needle-nosed pliers using a rotating motion to wrap and pull the sections.
We did not try either and it did not look easy as the mesh is firmly clamped by the collar.

Answer:
The vent we purchased is 6 1/2" wide x 7 1/4" tall overall.
It is designed to sit flush against the outside of your building utilizing a hole large enough to pass a 4" pipe (4 1/4"- 4 1/2" diameter).
It can be secured by screws through the flange or high quality adhesive caulking under the flange, or ideally both.

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works perfect Was very easy to install. You need a 4 1/4 inch hole saw to make it work. I like the screen inside to keep rodents out. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Well made inexpensive replacement This is a well made inexpensive dryer vent hood we purchased to replace a plastic unit that had failed. We live in South Florida so plastic is damaged by UV and fails within 5-10 years. to be fair, this unit is aluminum and will also deteriorate from the salt spray prevalent in most coastal regions. A better albeit more expensive choice would be copper or stainless steel for those installations with direct salt exposure. May 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by wall vent Good quality vent with screen to keep out unwanted quests. Slightly costlier than I wanted to spend but a better solution than plain vent. June 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by did exactly what it was supposed to do keep small animals out was easy to install and keeps small animats from coming in. March 8, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor manufacturing quality Vent was visibly out of square. Did not notice until getting ready to install. Very poor manufacturing quality. December 8, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Decent Vent With Big Reservations Vent tube measures about 4.5" in length. I forgot to measure its length before installation. Good practice to spec the layout before too deep in the job. I used 4" galvanized vent pipe which presumably will not accumulate fiber particles as had the flexible vent pipe it replaced. The leaky seal of my dryer filter had not presented a problem before as my previous dryer vent had no bird/insect screen. This screen fills very quickly with fiber particles which can be mostly cleared with a brush from the outside while dryer is in use. This vent would be perfect for non-particulate laden air and would be much better with an easily removable bird/insect screen for dryer vent applications.. May 30, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Vent Easy to install and is working good. I would recommend. October 22, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great product for the price. Easy to replace, takes paint well and last longer than the plastic models.. September 15, 2015
