Customer Questions & Answers

Does the Broan thru the wall exhaust fan come with a wall switch? I am assuming it is hard wired and would require some sort of wall switch.

This is an old question, but since it shows as unanswered, and others might want to know... The answer is no. Any control of the fan is external, via a switch or something like a thermostat or humidity sensor.

Can this fan be used to exhaust out side?Broan90 model512

The answer is no. It's designed for only in-house use. There is no shield to protect it against the elements, or to keep the bugs out.

I have this unit on my bathroom wall venting outside and there is a strong draft coming through. Can I use the "Frost King Exhaust Fan Cover" also sold at Home Depot? If not, what would be an easy solution to stop the draft?
Asked by: PJ
We cannot guarantee compatibility of the Frost King product with our fan. This unit is designed to provide room - to - room ventilation. It was not designed to vent to the outdoors. We do sell thru the wall fans that have back-draft dampers that can be vented to the outdoors. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 888-336-3948 for additional assistance.

Customer Reviews

90 CFM Room-to-Room Exhaust Fan is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice room to room vent. I bought this vent fan for a basement apartment. There was little air flow between the rooms, so I installed this vent to circulate the air more effectively. It worked great for this application. The only complaint I have is that it is a loud fan. For an already noisy basement, it's not really a problem, but if you wanted to install it in a quieter place it could be an annoyance. It moves a lot of air, more than I had expected. Installation was pretty easy, since the wiring was already in place. Cut a whole, attach wires, insert fan, job done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product to vent small room. This fan has been in operation for 5 years and still quietly provides air into a stuffy, windowless closet turned bedroom. We also use one to distribute pellet stove heat to the upper floor bedroom, fits through an old stovepipe collar!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall very good Excellent performance. The electric wire box needs to be inside the unit so the wall hole for unit doesn't have to be extended beyond what's needed for the unit itself. Extra hole width has to be cut to make room for the wire box then that part of the hole has to be covered or filled in with putty etc..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice fan for an average bathroom This fan fit a need - the bathroom I was renovating had an existing room-to-room fan and there was no easy way to create a path outside, so I went with this drop-in replacement. Installation was easy, it's "loud enough" but no too loud when in use and it moves plenty of air for my 4 x 10 bathroom.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well, a little noisy, junction box a pain to install Electrical junction box located on the side of the fan where it will be inside the wall and it must be removed to get the fan inside the round hole. Takes two people, one on each side of the wall, to maneuver and reattach the electrical junction box while it inside the wall. It can be done, but a little frustrating. Fan is noisy unless you install a rheostat (any light dimmer switch works). Moves air efficiently and quietly once the rheostat is installed. Our purpose was to move air from downstairs family room where the wood stove is located into the stairway where a ceiling fan picks up the warm air and moves it to the main living room. This arrangement keeps the downstairs family room from being too hot while increasing the main living room temperature 8 degrees. Well worth the effort to install as it makes much more efficient use of the wood stove heat.
