Does the Broan thru the wall exhaust fan come with a wall switch? I am assuming it is hard wired and would require some sort of wall switch.

This is an old question, but since it shows as unanswered, and others might want to know... The answer is no. Any control of the fan is external, via a switch or something like a thermostat or humidity sensor.

No, you must supply your own single pole switch or use a rheostat (recommended to control the noise)

Answer:
Hi, Chris. Thank you for your question about a switch for the 512M Exhaust Fan. If you review the Product Description tab, it advises that we recommend the model 57W (white) or the 57V (ivory) wall switch. This unit does NOT have a switch included with it. The switch must be purchase separately. Thanks, again.

The answer is no. It's designed for only in-house use. There is no shield to protect it against the elements, or to keep the bugs out.

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice room to room vent. I bought this vent fan for a basement apartment. There was little air flow between the rooms, so I installed this vent to circulate the air more effectively. It worked great for this application. The only complaint I have is that it is a loud fan. For an already noisy basement, it's not really a problem, but if you wanted to install it in a quieter place it could be an annoyance. It moves a lot of air, more than I had expected. Installation was pretty easy, since the wiring was already in place. Cut a whole, attach wires, insert fan, job done. October 10, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by good little fan but yes, very loud. Bought this thinking eh how loud could it be?? Installed and let it run during the day, did an excellent job moving air. By 3am i was wondering what all that noise was coming from the other end of the house. It was this little fan, somehow. It sounds like a fan of at least 3x the size. If you like the static of a fan when you sleep, and need one of these, definitely grab it. If you're a light sleeper, stay away. If you're in the middle, try it. Aside from the noise, it does its job very well. November 1, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not recommended for existing wall use The design is not suitable for use in an existing wall, in spite of what the specifications say. There is an electrical connection cover box on the side of the fan that requires an additional, box shaped cut, that's 1.5" wider than the circle cut out of the wallboard for placing the fan. But the grill supplied will not cover that hole, leaving an unsightly chunk of missing wallboard showing. The directions say that one should slide the fan into place and THEN place the cover on the box, which is impossible with the wall in place. They supply clips to retain the fan to the wallboard, but as designed, the installer cannot follow the directions. The fan can be installed if the cover is discarded and the electrical connections are simply stuffed into the wall but that is against the electrical code and creates a hazardous condition. If you need a fan that can be installed in an already finished wall, as both an engineer and an electrician, I strongly recommend against this one. September 7, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Met Expectations Instructions were easy to understand. Liked option to use as a plug into wall outlet. May 28, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works well, a little noisy, junction box a pain to install Electrical junction box located on the side of the fan where it will be inside the wall and it must be removed to get the fan inside the round hole. Takes two people, one on each side of the wall, to maneuver and reattach the electrical junction box while it inside the wall. It can be done, but a little frustrating. Fan is noisy unless you install a rheostat (any light dimmer switch works). Moves air efficiently and quietly once the rheostat is installed. Our purpose was to move air from downstairs family room where the wood stove is located into the stairway where a ceiling fan picks up the warm air and moves it to the main living room. This arrangement keeps the downstairs family room from being too hot while increasing the main living room temperature 8 degrees. Well worth the effort to install as it makes much more efficient use of the wood stove heat. December 17, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Exhaust Fan This fan is a little loud, but it does the job well, however the housing was not adequate, the wire holding plate the screws were stripped wouldn't tight so I removed the plate and attach the wire hardness directly into the 2X4 frame. December 10, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Room-to-Room Fan The item was as described and woorks well but is to noisey for an area that people use for an extended period of time. I am using it for a heaat exhaus fan for an electronic closet and it woorkd fine bugt again it is noisy. November 11, 2014
