why is the screen on the top vs on the bottom. Lowes product has the screen on the bottom. Is this a design flaw or is this the way it is to work.

Asked by: paul
I picked this product with the screen on top so leaves and those "whirly birds" don't get caught under any grooves or slots.

i bought these a year ago and they have gaps now which defeats the purpose and keep moving. What can I do to make them work? What kind of clips or what do you suggest? Otherwise think I will have to buy all new ones and different.

Thanks. I found out that they were not installed correctly after finding amerimax instructions. The roofer did not overlap them. I got someone to come in and do this and also put a nail at the ends to keep them in securely. I will see if this works in the summer. That was the biggest problem for me. They kept moving and sticking out and they couldn't be moved because they were sticking to the shingles with the tar. Thanks. Hope this works now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Glad I did! Thought long and hard about whether to pay someone for one of the fancy pro options available or to do it myself. Now that I have done it myself I am truly glad I did!

Lasts for several years before they sag or weaken - I've had the product on my gutters for almost 8 years and just need to replace now. Annoying that Home Depot has white in stock but I have to order brown on line since no brown is carried in my local stores.

Yep - they filtered great -- in fact, they filtered so well that the water couldn't go thru fast enough causing the gutter to overflow in downpours. The gutters weren't full - just blocked by this product. It negated the purpose of having gutters. Within 6 months, my new white gutters were permanently discolored. I still didn't take them down but after a few years they failed in the hot Texas summer sun, and sagged into the gutters near the ends and corners effectively creating gutter dams. Now I've removed the product and getting ready to repaint to cover the stains. In short, this product caused increased gutter maintenance instead of reducing it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from good idea but fit is important I recommend this only if you check the size of the lip of your gutter before buying. The lip must be 1/2 inch or less. The mesh will help keep pine needles and leaves out much better than those with larger openings. My only concern, other than the fit, is how long they will last. The plastic mesh is glued to the outer surface of the guard. These will require a bit of maintenance due to the downward cup once it is in place. Material will have to be removed from time to time. Also, be sure not to leave any gaps between the sections, glue them together with silicon. Not bad for a do it yourself product but not comparable to commercial products.

My roofer could not find the ones I had on previously. Now these got stuck to the tar from the shingles and keep moving. I have had to cut them at the ends because they stick out. This defeats the purpose when there are so many gaps. Not sure if clips would help but you can't move them. I now see I can find the ones I liked that never moved here. Think I will get those. They are: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Amerimax-Home-Products-4-ft-White-Solid-Gutter-Cover-85320/100051459 I would not recommend them. Now I have to take a loss for the money I spent on these.

Recently reglued the screens to the guards as they were coming unglued. Also bought a few more guards to do a better job at the corners of the gutter system. Am very happy with the results. I have lots of trees overhead and lots of leaves and pine needles; the leaves sit on the guards until they are blown off by the wind. The water trickles into the gutters. The screens are helpful dealing with the pine needles. Although some get stuck in the guards, most blow off as the leaves. The gutters get very little debris. There are some places where the gutter outside edge is too far from the shingles to slip the guard under the shingles. In order to support the guards properly, some pieces of aluminum sheet metal were extended under the shingles and the guards rest on the aluminum.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WARNING! Yes, these install very easily and keep out debris and leaves as long as they haven't been exposed to summer sun and then they buckle down into the rain gutter and clog everything up along with the debris. Installed these in the Fall of 2015 and they are completely useless now (July 2016). The No Warranty should have been the clue. Time spent installing is now a complete loss. Will check into another product that will do the job.
