Answer:
you can use a sprayer to apply. we purchased one of the small pump style sprayers and it worked great. would not recommend thinning it as that will affect the product, coverage and durability.

Dear Jimmy,
You can apply our BEHR® Transparent Waterproofing Wood Finish using a pad applicator, nylon/polyester brush, 3/8" nap roller or an airless sprayer with a .015 - .019" tip. However, we do not recommend thinning our finish before application. Please follow all label instructions.
Thank you and good luck with your project!

Answer:
i usually do two even coats on every project. it is better to do that and avoid putting on one heavy coat. this will avoid drips and runs that you might get when you apply too much at one time.

Answer:
Dear Jongon,
Two thin coats are required when applying our BEHR Transparent Waterproofing Wood Finish on a Redwood deck. Avoid applying finish too heavy since over application will lead to surface failure including peeling and cracking. Please follow all label instructions.

Answer:
Dear MDSchade,
The BEHR Transparent Waterproofing Wood Finish is recommended for properly prepared new to slightly weathered, unsealed exterior wood surfaces (0-5 years exposure). This product can be used on a Cedar Pergola, however you can expect a slightly darker finish after staining due to the product being lightly toned.

Hi MDSchade,
This product will work fine for your application. While it is a clear product you can expect the wood to take on a darker appearance after application.

Answer:
It will seal and waterproof but will change the shade to one just a bit darker than natural. You can still see the wood grain though but it does have just a bit of color.

Hello Mate,
Great question. The shelf life for our product is 2 years if it’s unopened. We’d just recommend doing a stir test when ready to use.
Best wishes on your project,
Kevin

Answer:
The finish does not have an expiration date. To tell if it is still good, start with a visual inspection. Discard finishes that have become thick, rubbery, stringy or separated, as well as those with a skunky odor or obvious mold growth. Ditto for water-based paint or finish that looks like cottage cheese.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 44 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great coverage and appearance on 3 year old fence! I purchased this product after completely cleaning and prepping my back fence. The fence was weather worn and the wood was beginning to turn black in color. After the fence was cleaned and dried we applied the #400 Behr Transparent Stain with an airless spray machine and gun. We applied three coats of stain on both sides of the fence in a little over three hours. The fence looked great upon completion and still does after some severe weather (Sun and temps in the high 90's and thunder storms with heavy rain and some light hail.) I am really pleased at how well the project turned out and have received many compliments from neighbors and people walking through our part of the neighborhood. Thanks to Behr for producing such quality products and to The Home Depot for selling them at affordable prices. If your fence needs redone this is the product to use. June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by You'll like it Went on fine with a roller as long as you hand brush it out. My only disappointment was the product seemed to have more red color than expected for a "natural" finish but the final look was fine. July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Behr stain. Awesome product. One coat and done. Fence came out perfect. And the $10 rebate per gallon was a great deal. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Deck stainer Used the clear wood waterproof finnish was easy water clean up but does not dry clear has a honey gold color but still has the natural wood grain showing take care (ie) don't say do part of wood plank then 15 min do other part will see difference June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice finish Application went smooth. No problems. Like the look of the finish too. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by quality I rolled the product on my fencing material and it was simple easy and high quality. December 9, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Not bad. Not bad at all I bought this stain thinking it was a paint. Oops. Turned out ok and repelled rain after a few days just as advertised. Color me happy. May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product I was surprised how far one gallon of the product would go. My deck is fairly small, about 200 square feet. Took much less than a gallon to put on a heavy coat. Highly recommend. June 7, 2016
