Primer necessary

The product description states that it has great adhesion, but do you not need to apply primer before painting a deck and railing system with this product?
Asked by: Scott
I did not use a primer when I painted pressure treated lumber. As such, one coat produced uneven results. It took 2 full coats with a 24 hour cure in between to get even coverage. If I do it again, a coat of Kilz will go on first.

No more than any other paint. Use wood filler, then paint.

Can I use this paint for wood surfaces ?

My porch is made with wood
Asked by: Bill
Yes. If it's a wood that bleeds tannins or other stains you will want a sealing coat of primer. Primer is a good idea anyway.

What potential issues might I face if I used this to paint a plywood floor as recommended by the staff at Home Depot?

I used primer and two coats of this paint to cover my shed floor that has plywood over the subfloor. Then in the question section I saw that a Behr product expert indicated that this paint should not be used on a plywood floor. Should I expect issues? Did I waste my time/money?
Asked by: BillH
I would say no...I used this to paint 3/4 TG plywood subfloor I used in my shop 3 years ago. 2 heavy coats of Kilz and 2 coats of Behr with a light sanding with 100 grit in between coats. It has held up really well. My floor suffered thru an engine rebuild and a complete transmission tear down and reinstall. Engine oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid...all wiped up nicely. Though it didn't care too much for gasoline or brake cleaner-kind of softened the coating a bit, but once completely dried it hardened again. The only problem I have is if a piece of gear with rubber feet stay in the same place for a while the paint will stick to the feet and sometimes pull a little disc up when it is moved.

I couldn't find flooring that I liked well enough for my small bathroom, so I opted to paint over the old sheet vinyl. It covered beautifully in two coats. Plus, I painted a design over it that makes the room seem spacey. It's been a month, and no signs of any problems. I expect it to hold up quite well until I find flooring I like better -- and that may never happen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect For Concrete Basement Floor Paint I live in NJ and cold climate, we just bought house which is fairly 8 to 10 years old with concrete floor basement. We painted floor with this paint and came out really good. First used #880 primer and then paint with roller and apply 2 coats on floor. It took about 2 to 3 days for complete drying after second coat. It has really good coverage but totally depend on how rought is your concrete surface. Mine is pretty smooth concrete surface. O have 900 Sq, ft basemnet and It took 1 gallon for primer (1 coat) and 3 gallon paint (2 coat). -Hiren Patel

Don't know that this makes sense but the surface "feels" harder and "feels" like it is adhering to the cement more than other porch paints I have used. I'll know more at the end of the season, but for now, I really like this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coverage and high shine. I used it many more... Great coverage and high shine. I used it many more places than just my patio. It worked excellent on my tile and has a very nice shine to it. Much better coverage than the tub and tile paint and does not require a respirator or have dangerous fumes!
