Hi, I did part of the deck early this year. I notice cracking already. Should i prime the remaining deck first? Also, when i remove the peeling paint, i notice the wood below is wet. Should i put water sealer on top of the BEHR deckover?

Hi MLB2007,
Thanks for your question! It would be okay to coat over a wood filler, as long as it's a paintable filler. Good luck on your project! Best, Jeanette P.

Hi MLB2007,
Thanks for writing in, and great question! DeckOver can be stored in a garage, as long as the temperature won't exceed 120 degrees, or go low enough to cause the product to freeze. Hope this helps! Best, Jeanette P.

Answer:
Hi matt,
We appreciate your interest in our DeckOver. Unfortunately we don't recommend applying this product to a surface that will be driven on. You may need to reach out to your local Home Depot some recommendations on a wood coating that will hold up to vehicle traffic. Good luck with your project! - Sara

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Buyer beware, poor product followed the instruction exactly, had to use two cans for a 10 x13 deck. the stuff is so thick. when I was finally finished it looked great, 4 months later and the paint is faded and gone in so many spots. won't buy this again. buyer beware September 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible - Do not buy We applied this product and followed the directions exactly. After two years it needs to be completely redone. There are cracks in almost all of the deck boards (even in areas that are not walked on like railings) and big areas where the finish has come completely off leaving exposed wood. The staff at the local Home Depot store don't even recommend this when you ask them about it. I spent a lot of time and money on this, and now I'll be switching products. July 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Product should be taken off the market!! Applied Deck over per instructions on can, after 1 year it is pealing and bubbling. It is difficult to put on, very expensive, doesn't cover as advertised. July 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst product I've ever used We were so impressed with the demo at Home Depot that in 2013 my sister and I both purchased Deck Over and stained our decks. We both spent almost an entire summer on this project. After thoroughly cleaning our decks and letting them dry. We painted over the cracks and between each board with a paint brush as was suggested by the rep and allowed sufficient time for both coats to dry. Both decks look gorgeous for the remainder of that first summer. By spring 2014 the stain on both decks had cracked and started to peel. We could actually peel off the stain with our fingers. We touched up these areas only to have the same thing happen in 2015 and now in 2016. In addition, we were told the deck would be perfect for walking in on bare feet... It is not! This is very discouraging especially when my neighbors used a plain old deck stain and have much better looking decks. We were told the stain would last for many years and I have touched up my deck every year - what a waste of time and money. Several people asked why the deck looks like it does when it was recently stained and what I've used. I tell them but I also warn them it's a lot of money for very poor results. This product should last more than one year. Up to this point I thought Behr products were far better than other brands. After this experience I am not sure I will purchase Behr again. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Waste of money! Goes on like thick paste. Added 2 coats and already fading within 30 days. Also, purchased the product based on a Promotion for $10 off. Submitted the receipt and all pertinent then get a return postcard stating "no qualified products eligible for rebate based upon sales receipt info provided". So the product lacks quality and they use false advertising?? July 11, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This Stuff Should be Taken Off the Market This stuff truly should be taken off the market - it is complete garbage. We used the textured version and it was an awful experience. We had more than our fair share of problems using this stain. All we were trying to do was stain a small 160 sq ft deck - nothing huge, nothing fancy. Behr says that One gallon covers up to 75 sq ft for two coats. It took us FOUR gallons to apply ONE coat to our deck. We are so unhappy with the finished outcome that we may re-strip the deck and find a different type of stain product to use. Behr should be embarrassed to sell this product - it goes on like glue and looks like globbed glue when it dries. A child could have finger painted the look of our deck better than this stain. Save yourself the hassle and money - this entire project (buying 4 gallons of stain, behr stripper and the cleanser) cost us over $200 and we are going to go back and start from scratch. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Too early to tell, but so far, so good I've had this applied on my very old, very weathered deck for about 2.5 weeks now in mid-June 2016, and so far, so good. It was applied in less than ideal conditions, in partial direct sun, about 80 degrees and low humidity. It had not rained for about 3 days and my moisture meter had the decking at under 8%. I brushed it on to apply it, on over 200 sq. ft. of decking, and also on some vertical surfaces. It was much easier to apply with a wide brush than with a roller. I also feel like you will be able to spread it more efficiently with a brush, and that more product will be wasted with a roller. It says not to apply if rain is expected within 24 hours. Unfortunately, it did rain about 26 or 28 hours after the second coat was applied. That wasn't in the weather forecast. Let's hope that's enough. The one main criticism I have so far is that the actual color is VERY different from the in-store brochure as well as the online color guide. VERY different. I originally wanted to do my entire deck in Cedar Naturaltone, which clearly is a light brown in the color brochure. You put it on and it's a bright glowing orange color. After I applied one coat of that on everything, I went to Home Depot and then got additional cans in plain Cedar to do the second coat on horizontal surfaces only. Railings and vertical surfaces I left in Cedar Naturaltone for the contrast. Even the Cedar color is quite far off from the color in the brochure, it's also a bit too orange. Now let's see if it stands the test of time. I have relatively cold winters here in the northeast and hot, humid summers. I like the texture very much, the matte finish is grippy. And it makes my several decades old deck look like new, almost like composite decking. July 1, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Here we go again . . . pealing! This product was highly recommended by the Home Depot Paint Dept. Was told it would last for several years. I followed the preparation directions as stated. I spent days with the process. That was last summer . . . fast forward to 10 months later. it's peeling in many areas of our deck. I never intended having to prep and repaint our deck again this summer. More time and $$$. I believe we should be refunded at least the cost of the paint! July 3, 2016
