Refurbished wood that has been sanded

I have removed all decking, removed all screws and turned over the wood and sanded the better side. It had few drips of old stain from other side which were sanded 99-100% off . Boards look yellow with a few spots here and there that are questionable for cleaning or just more sanding. Deck will be 5 square. Can you suggest the best prep before installation of your Deck over? The board with all the blue that is down will be removed. Didn't like it once it was down. FYI: We lowered the deck over 2 steps and reused all the wood. Thanks for any help.

Hello armymom,
Great question. Once the surface has been sanded, then we recommend using our All-In-One Wood Cleaner No. 63 over the entire deck. After using our cleaner, we recommend letting the surface completely dry and then applying 2 coats of our DeckOver.
Best wishes,
Kevin

Hello John,
Thanks for your question. Our DeckOver stain is not designed to stand up to the wear expected on garage floors, so we'd recommend against applying it there. You might instead consider our 1-Part Epoxy Floor Paint: http://www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-Premium-1-Gal-PFC-20-Coronado-1-Part-Epoxy-Concrete-and-Garage-Floor-Paint-93001/203936906?keyword=behr+1-part+epoxy+coronado (notice: I gave a link Read More

For prep, we recommend removing any loose or peeled old paint, sanding the frayed edges of that coating smooth, lightly sanding any areas of the coating that are glossy, spot etching any bare concrete, cleaning the whole surface, spot priming any bare concrete with a product like our No. 880 Bonding Primer, and then applying the paint. Please follow all label instructions for best results, and well wishes!

Hello Chip,
Thanks for your question. Yes, it's okay that the deck was recently power washed, and yes, we would recommend prepping the surface with a product like our No. 63 Wood Cleaner which will open up the pores of the wood to promote adhesion. Please be sure to follow all label instructions, and best wishes.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by THEY SHOULD NOT SELL THIS PRODUCT ANYMORE Do not use it is terrible I applied the cleaner first like I was told spent over 600.00 On this Product it peeled right away re applied following year yet again to have it peel again a lot of wasted time and money. I am going to have to pay someone or rent a sander get this stuff off and stain it never again will I spend so much time to put this poor product on again! September 2, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by If you have dogs with muddy paws, beware of Deckover's lighter colors We live in the mountains and do not have a lawn, but natural woodland with some muddy patches in our yard. If you have dogs with muddy paws, do NOT choose a light color for the deck surface, as it is impossible to scrub the paw prints off of the Deckover paint! We have put quite a bit of elbow-grease into it and they will NOT come off (see attached picture). We used the Rose Beige color for the deck surface (awful only because stained with paw prints) and the Mountain Spruce color for the deck railings and spindles (looks great; see attached picture). The Deckover paint has really improved the look of our house, filling in the deck's cracks and gouges, making our ageing deck look new again. Other than the stained paw prints, the Deckover paint worked wonders. However, because of the paw prints that will not scrub off, next spring we will have to repaint with a darker color the surface of our very large deck. Luckily we have some leftover paint that we can have them darken the color of, and re-roll the deck surface, which will not be too time consuming. Painting in our intense Colorado sun was a challenge because the paint dries very quickly (paint in morning and evening; painting in the middle of the day didn't work very well). Overall, a very good product so far. Hopefully it will hold up well to our sunny climate where the sunlight is harsh due to the elevation. October 16, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great cover for a workshop floor Wanted a light color for my wood shop floor and decided on rose Beige, figured I could find stuff I dropped easier with a light floor. Coverage was great, and second coat went on very easy. Heavy ammonia odor and I would suggest if using in an enclosed space get some ventilation. Put down two coats on my 200 sq.ft. plywood floor and had plenty left to do the doors and touch up any cracks. I might not have filled. with the second coat. September 20, 2013
