Is this paint ready-to-use right out of the can for white trim or does it color added?

I bought Behr product 7753, Premium Plus Ultra Satin Enamel, well, my boyfriend picked it up that is. It looks white in the can but when I wen to apply it on my bathroom trim to touch it up, it just came out as white-transparent and not like a solid color at all. I don't know if this because he accidentally picked up a blank base or what? Because if this is what it's supposed to be I would have to use 4 coats by the looks of it...HELP?!
Asked by: Cowhitehead
7753 is a DEEP BASE and color must be added to it or else it will dry clear. The same goes for 7754, which is a MEDIUM BASE. The only cans that can be used directly off the shelf are ones that have a color indicated on it, such as ULTRA PURE WHITE or SWISS COFFEE.

Picked it for my daughter’s room, and cursed it many times. My girls wanted to help me and I yelled at the older one for using too much, since it was dripping. To my horror, the paint was dripping when I used it too. No matter how small amount of paint was on my roller brush, it dripped. The paint dries fast, which is good, but not in this case, since by the time drips form, it is half dried and when you try to pick it up with you roller brush, it’ll pick up flakes of it all around leaving the surface all spikey. Remember the spikey ceilings? That effect. I’ve painted a fair amount of rooms in my life, and this paint by far is the most HORRIBLE! DO NOT BUY IT, this is a special warning to new painters out there. I rarely write reviews of products but this product just really drove me.

Just finished painting a room 12'x12' with 8' walls, minus 3'x7' window and a sliding walk-in closet, (7' X 80" double wide doors). It took 2 gals. of deep green eggshell paint to cover or the flat beige/tan paint, 3 days and at least four coats to cover everything. I will never use Behr paint again. I did in the past on my first house, no problem, now this new primer and paint in one - no good. It's a waste of money and time.

We purchased 15 gallons of the Behr premium plus for a whole house paint job. One particular room was a very dark color and we were switching to a light color so for that room we bought the Ultra for that room. The bedroom is only 10x9 and 1 gallon of this stuff only was able to do 75% of the room. It was awful to apply. Coverage was horrible and the old color showed right through. If you tried to touch up any spots the paint peeled right off the wall. Since we had a bunch of the lower grade of Behr paint we tried it on the wall that we couldn't cover with this stuff. It went on perfect, covered completely with none of the old color showing through. Home Depot of course wouldn't take a return on the paint and blamed it on how we applied it. Some how we managed to do the other 15 gallons correctly but screwed up this one room. Don't waste your money on the Ultra, just stick with the premium plus, it went on perfectly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Caution if using with dap!! I used this paint while using dap to cover nicks & holes on wall. First time the paint & dap peeled off while rolling. So I tried a second time, this time the dap was on the wall over 24hrs...same result!!! Third times a charm right? NOPE. Will need to try something else to use with this paint. Overall nice coverage on walls but DO NOT USE WITH DAP!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this paint This paint covered a dark barn red bathroom, one coat! I was amazed and very thankful. I always use Behr paint now, we've painted every room in our home with a very light grey Behr, Paint & Primer in one and are now painting the deck with Behr Deckover. This has a beautiful matte finish but is easy to clean dirty fingerprints from! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Don't waste your money unless you want a subpar performance and a mediocre finish on your project. As a contractor painting for 30+ years I've used Behr off and on with frustration. Years ago it was ok and I could use it in place of more expensive brands. They have changed the formula a few times and now it is a poor performer and cost as much as the premium competitors. My customer and I thought to give this interior eggshell enamel a try. It took 4 coats to hide the wall repairs from showing through the finish. It has a heavy glue content with poor pigment coverage. The formula makes a frustrating experience avoiding lap marks...you need to work fast and methodically. The end result for the eggshell has way too much shine compared to all other brands...I find Behr's flat has an annoying shine too. Durability? Well after cure time some dust got on a area of painted wall. When lightly wiped off with a damp cloth, it left a obvious difference in sheen compared to the rest of the wall...That annoying shine described above was wiped off in this area to leave a flat finish. Only way to fix it is to repaint that wall. After this I decided to contact Behr for a refund for "one can" of the few purchased. After a few annoying email communications over a few days to Behr with my issues, proof of purchase, picture of the paint label, picture of paint color formula. They decided they could ship me a "similar color" paint in the mail as my color was a custom color and they couldn't send that. I just wanted my money back for one can and Behr wouldn't do that. What a joke in performance and customer service. I gave a heavy discount to my customer for the inconvenience and for the fact they have to deal with a paint on their walls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Behr Continues To Be A Favorite I've been using Behr paint for at least 20 years and it never fails me. The coverage is as good or better than more expensive paints I have used over the years. This latest job was to refresh my crafting room. The coverage is great and I'm pleased with the color. I did purchase three samples prior to deciding. I love that I can purchase samples and be sure of my choice. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Based on the rave reviews by the homedepot sales people I spent $6000 on premium plus ultra exterior to paint my house. The siding is cedar, the existing paint in reasonable condition no flaking, blisters or rot. I washed the siding the with cleaner purchased from homedepot let it dry for a couple of days and painted using sprayer, roller and brush. 90% went on no problems but blisters appeared on about 10% of the surface. Homedepot said that it was probably my problem either did not wait for it dry between coats or the siding was too hot. I am fairly sure that this was not the case but they were adamant that it could not be the paint. So I sanded down the bubbles, made sure that the surfaces were dry and reapplied, after a couple of days bubbles again? sanding down 10% of my house and reapplying the paint took about as much time as paint the whole house so I was not happy. Went back to homedepot and the said to sand down again and use glidden gripper primer? (Behr is supposed to be a primer and paint and why glidden not Behr for the primer only?) Anyway sanded down the blisters again, applied the primer, waited .....no blisters. Put on the Behr.....no blisters. Of course then I had to put on another coat so all in all. My time on the project was double what it should of been, my cost increased by 35% because of the extra paint and materials and the siding looks weird because now some portions of the siding have been sanded smooth. I spend about 10k every year at homedepot and normally I have no problems with their products and customer service but what can you do when the paint sucks? you can't return the paint, it is already on the wall, you cant claim back the wasted time and you cant claim back the extra money spent on additional paint/materials? I have attached photos of the blisters and then the siding after primer and topcoat. I just did not have time to fill in all the big ugly holes from the blisters there were too many , but man they ruin the look of the finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent paint! Buy floetrol to add to your paint. This is excellent paint. I painted my daughters room and it looks great. My strong suggestion is that you buy Floetrol to add to the paint. It eliminates brush and/or roller marks and to me it seems to even out the paint application. It will also help with some of the issues I read where people complained that the paint "lifted" back onto the roller or had roller marks. The actual issue is painting technique and/or cheap roller covers. Don't cheap out on the rollers and make sure you load enough paint.. REASONS WHY PAINT "LIFTS" WHEN ROLLING OR SHOWS ROLLER MARKS (1) Rolling back over the freshly applied paint after it has had enough time to start to "set up". If you're going to roll over a freshly applied film, do so while the paint is still wet - not after it's had a few (or several) minutes to dry. (2) If you can see the product "lifting" from the surface as you roll over it (and not because of what's described in #1), that is a tell-tale sign of a cheap roller cover. If you buy floetrol and a good roller cover you will be pleased with the outcome. The paint results will look solid and uniform. I can speak from experience because initially every time I tried to paint it always looked awful and I had all but given up on ever painting again; then I received some advice from a friend who paints professionally. I hope this will help someone else out too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wasted a whole weekend, only to have to redo! We spent the entire weekend painting an interior hallway with Behr Plus Ultra Eggshell Enamel. The problem? Streaking and texture differences from roller path to the next roller path. We painted over the walls at least 4 times, waiting for dry time and using quality Purdy rollers. I finally gave it up at 6 p.m. tonight and am going to a flat paint from SW. What a waste of time and money! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No such thing as 1 coat. 2 coats Complete, or 1 coat with touch-ups After some previous auto paint and body experience, and some time in the construction world, I would normally spend all of paint money at paint stores such as Sherwin or Benjamin. However, the days of watered down BEHR paint are over, and the result is a reliably good product every time. The paint is consistently mixed, and coats cover very well. I painted this directly over new drywall and compound, as well as some painted wall, and it definitely covered in one coat. However, it left behind some spots due to the roller running dry. A second think coat made the wall look complete, NO PRIMER NEEDED! On another wall, I was running short, and ended up having to stretch a quart. Same thing, the roller left a few speckles behind, but I touched them up as I painted the edges and everything blended very well, no need for a second coat. I highly recommend this product. As usual, everything cleaned up with water. ProTip: If leaving the roller and brush unattended for a while (for lunch), just wrap them in a bag (the home depot bag).

The bedroom had a light color and I painted over it with another light color using about 3/4 of the can. However, it will need a second coat so I will need to spend more money. My issue is that the paint has such a strong odor that I had to take many breaks and leave the room since my stomach was reacting to it. I had the window open but smell was the worst I've experienced with interior paint. I bought this because it stated it was 'low odor'. I hate to have to do the second coat but no choice since the coverage wasn't good enough.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not impressed I want to start out by saying I have always bought Behr paint because it covers so well. This type of Behr paint is the medium priced paint. I thought the coverage was average. Usually one gallon was enough to do a project. This time I will have to go back to complete my project. Even since Behr went to the Marquee brand, I don't think there other brands are as good. Might be switching to another brand after this.
