Bought this drill as it had all the features I was looking for and the price was $50 less than the Dewalt's/Mikita's of the world. I used it MAYBE 6 times over a 8 month period and no real heavy projects, just small stuff around the house. I was putting together an outdoor patio set and the gears stripped all of the sudden. Home Depot said they would not take it back after 90 days and now I am going to have to work through the 1 year manufacture warranty. Not happy at all...

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Seulater shocked that B&D made a drill this great
Growing up most have come to know B&D makes low cost products that are typically not work horses. About a year ago Walmart had a B&D 18v drill on sale for $19. I could not pass that up. I used the drill for a basement remodel, and it it worked just great. Now the battery is at it's end and i am looking for another with the latest technology batteries. I bought this and i was shocked at how light it was. Far lighter than my other 2 more expensive name brand drills. Very happy with this new drill. If i was forced to complain about anything would be i wish the torq settings used the old style 1-24 settings. This new drill has images like screws and drill bits to adjust the torq. Its no big deal, but i prefer the numbers better.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Chance couldn't find batteries for old drill had to buy this
I have an Craftsman drill that I bought around 1995 but I can no long find replacement batteries. Internet recondition battery packs were more than a new drill cost, especially this one. I love that drill but had to buy a new one. I am glad I did. I didn't think I would like the clutch chuck but I do. My old drill used a key to tighten the chuck, I like the key better but I haven't had a problem with the keyless chuck on this drill. I used it mostly to assemble things and drive screws. So far I am very happy with drill. I believe the lithium-ion batteries are going to last longer then Ni-cads on my old drill. I hope so or at least I hope then continue to make replacement batteries and I hope the replacement batteries cost less then a new drill. Battery charge time on this is less than my old drill. I wish they would have included a 2nd battery so I could use one and charge the other. It came with a bag but the old drill had a plastic case that stored the charger and two batteries. It would have been nice if this drill came that way but the old drill cost 2X what this one cost so I am still happy I bought this drill. The storage bag is that came with this drill is adequate.

Bad product - 2 burned out motors with light use; appallingly poor reliability !
[I purchased (at Home Depot) the version of this drill packaged with two batteries (SSL20SB-2) - my SSL20SB drill is identical to this Home Depot offering.]
> Purchased January 2011. Charged batteries, checked out operation, and then did not use for almost 5 months. After driving a dozen or so screws and drilling a few holes - all light duty work - the motor sparked, smoked and died. I drove 25 miles to the nearest authorized service center (Santa Clara CA to Hayward CA). The service center accepted the drill as a warranty return. A few weeks later a replacement was shipped to me. . 2 years later - the drill had not been used much, until recently it was used to drive #8 wood screws. Pilot holes were used (different drill) so the screw driving was relatively light duty work. After driving 65 screws (over several days)- sparks and smoke from the motor - AGAIN! The 2 year warranty is past - but I may be able to make a claim under my credit card warranty extension. BUT - why would I want another replacement drill with such a short lifetime?> I had high hopes for this drill - but I have to absolutely recommend AGAINST buying one.
Batteries hold charge very well - for months ! Much better than NiCad batteries. Compact size, relatively light weight. Torque limits appear to work well. For light work loads - I have found the 1.5 Ah batteries to be adequate. - especially with 2 batteries provided with this product model.
> With only light work loads and short total run times, I have burned out the original drill, and its warranty replacement. One burned out motor is bad luck - getting the random defective product. Two burned out motors is a strong indication of an inferior, poorly designed product.> The chuck takes some getting used to - but it is never really good. This chuck requires two hands for tightening. Many other keyless chucks require only one hand. The chuck is so short, that it is tough to get a grip on it for sufficient tightening

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by waltbud best tool for many years
This is the best i've had from B&D for over 30 years. the Li-on 20V battery is great! The drill has power to spare for all i use it for. The VS controls the speed well and the torque settings save on stripped threads. For the price, you can't go wrong.
I now have two of these drills and no more dead batteries from letting them sit long periods.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Toolguy very nice tool, good balance, easy to use. battery technology reason for purchase.
Purchased this tool due to battery technology. Past driver batteries would go bad when I did not use driver regularly, which turned out to be wasting money. This battery holds its charge over extended time and allows you to keep battery in charger. Very glad I purchased this tool. Owned a number of drivers over the year and this one is near the top.

It has been an excellent tool to perform home activities, I don't doubt it can perform a bit more complicated tasks but for now I'm very satisfied with performance at home.
It's important to read the instructions about batteries life since this is a lithium one and can provide you a better work experience. Definitively is a great purchase.

Never wrote a review but this product is definitely deserving. Is the drill compact? Yes. Is it powerful? Yes. Does the battery last? Yes. I have nothing bad to say about it. Finished my basement and used a lot of screws - this drill made life easy.
