I was chopping branches off of my Maple in the front yard when my neighbor came walking over with an electric lopper. She let me use it and said: "This should make that a lot less work." It did. Although it isn't for large branches over around 4 inches in diameter, it does a great job for making long branches into short ones for the trash or fireplace. It's really a small chainsaw with claws. The actual cutting tool is actually a short chainsaw just like regular ones. This is by far much safer than a regular chainsaw (chainsaws are one of the most dangerous tools in a home). After using my neighbors I immediately began a search for one. I couldn't believe the stores didn't carry these on the shelves. However, Home Depot had them online. This is not a tool that will completely replace a regular chainsaw; it will, however, possibly save your fingers or hands for what most people do at home. Can't believe I never had heard or seen one of these before. If you trim your own trees, you need one of these.

I bought this because I couldn't afford the price of a Jawsaw. I had a bunch of limbs I wanted to cut up for my wood burning stove for this next winter. I am a 60 year old woman and I had no trouble using it. It made cutting the limbs much faster than trying to do it by hand.

The mechanism that moves the lower jaw is quite fragile - a limb that was pulled into the jaws left the lower jaw just "flapping" - no grip, it just rotates freely. Black & Decker service said that they don't supply any parts for this except the bar & chain; a few other reviews also mentioned this problem. To B & D's credit, they are willing to replace the lopper, based only on the date of manufacture. One more caution: make sure any extension cords are heavy enough (12 or 14 ga.) to avoid voltage drop - a long, 16 ga. cord will kill any electric motor under load.

I cut down 15 20 foot tall arbs and cut them into 18" pieces.
I threw the chain off a couple of times. (My fault-lazy on chain tightening).
What is really amazing about this thing is it's ability to CUT A LOG ON THE GROUND.
You just close the jaw blade assembly together and the blade drives the log into the jaws.
It saves you picking the log up and setting something under it for elevation.
YOU CAN'T CUT 3 INCH LOGS ON THE GROUND WITH A CHAINSAW.
THE BLADE WOULD INTERFERE WITH THE EARTH.
YOU CAN WITH THIS FINE PIECE.
I own and use chainsaws.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Bluejean Terrific Tool for us ladies who can't pull a chord.
Had a lot of small Holly trees dropping prickly leaves that my little dogs and I got stuck with. Found the saw does great, quick and clean job of them. Hadn't used as regular chainsaw in years but this little saw was so easy to use. Great for low hanging branches of pine trees too.
