Answer:
A metal working vise? An idea would be to mount the vise to another panel (or slab) of wood to which another piece, such as a 2"x2" was attached on the bottom so as to allow it to clamp it into the workmate. Good place for such a vise is at a corner. An auxiliary top such as that is what this needs for that purpose.

yes, but it would require drilling mounting bolt holes. Do you really want to do that?

Answer:
The Workmate 425 comes with 4 swivel pegs, bench dogs, and I recommend that you purchase more if you will be using the bench more than infrequently.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 267 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best gift to my son EVER! The work bench was a great choice for my son, who has many projects going on building props, etc. The instructions that came with the work bench were not so great, but he found instructions from someone who posted how to put it together on the internet, which were more helpful. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product Am well satisfied with the work bench, once I got it put together. However the instructions were very unclear and frustrating. May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Blabk & Decker Workmate This replaces an old one that has been well used for the last 23 years. Still made to the same quality which is nice to see. May 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by An Excellent Product with Acceptions Purpose: I needed a bench that would meet the following criteria: * Collapsible to save floor space in my garage * Light to medium duty for projects around the house * Heavy enough to be stable on tough/heavy jobs * Multiple height settings for different size jobs * Horizontal and Vertical clamping capabilities * Sufficient work surface area * Resistant to humidity both; metal and wood * One hand clamping * Reasonable price point (around $100) Selection: There are a number of Workmate models available from simple benches such as the WM125 style to the more complex WM1000 model. After reading the reviews and specifications I realized that the WM425 had the best match for my criteria. Shipping: 5 Stars Shipping was very cost effective at the time and it arrived in just a few days. Packaging: 1 Star The Workmate was shipped in retail display packaging which is insufficient for typical shipping. The package was damaged with the top almost completely ripped off and I cannot fault the carrier as the cardboard was very thin. As a result one of the plastic feet was missing. The retail box should be shipped inside a stronger shipping box as I have seen with other items. Customer Support: 5 Stars Customer Support was very courteous and responsive when I called for the replacement plastic foot that was missing due to poor packaging. The replacement arrived in a few days without item or shipping cost. Assembly: 2 Stars The assembly instructions were very poor. Durability: 5 Stars The bench top is now made of bamboo and not particle board which is sensitive to moisture. All of the metal parts are well painted. So, I do not anticipant any rust or swelling of the bamboo bench top due to the high humidity that can be found in Austin Texas. Overall Rating: 4.5 Stars I have deducted one half star due to the flimsy retail packaging the bench was shipped in resulting in the loss of a plastic foot. This was preventable. Otherwise I am delighted with this bench. May 14, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Poorly written assembly instructions For a product that requires very little assembly, the instructions are poorly written and somewhat confusing. The instruction sheet is small, type is small and pictures that purport to demonstrate the steps are incomplete and hard to decipher. The problem is exacerbated because of the very small size of the accompanying pictures that supposedly demonstrate the assembly. I did better myself just using my own logic and trial and error than trying to figure out the written instructions. Other than that, a good product. April 12, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by great work table take a while to assemble, could have been easier with a clearer instruction. great portable work table to have, only gripe, it's not that easy (one handed?) to open. April 2, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great design, mediocre materials Quality of WM425 is much less than my 20 yr old original Workmate which is still performing flawlessly. Top panels are 5/8" bamboo plywood. Bamboo is a very hard wood and could have made an excellent top, but 5/8" is way too thin for a work top, mine was 1/16" warped out of a flat plane - unacceptable. One end of the rear slotted panel slides forward if you grip an object at the other end of the jaws - it should be lockable. The assembly instructions are awful and illustrations ridiculously small. Nevertheless, most DIYers should find it a useful and versatile tool. March 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Work Mate, more than just that The work mate has come a long way with some nice new features. Used as a table or a work bench the Work Mate does a great job of whatever it is tasked to do. Then it folds away waiting for its next chore. Highly recommended. April 5, 2016
