Yes, by code in North America, you need to install a trap in the shower. You must elevate the shower floor 9.5 inches.

I want to pump 300 feet to a septic tank elsewhere on my property. The rise is about 6-7 feet. It would be toilet sewage only and it is a one person cottage. Would this work? The other option I am considering is a sewage pump (ie no maceration) but the help desk suggested that the relatively infrequent use could result in the solids clogging the system.
Asked by: Chip
Thanks for the helpful answer here. What pipe diameter would you recommend? I suppose I was assuming 1" as that is the outlet diameter of your unit. The slope is a very gentle and continuous 6-7 feet all the way. Do you have any thoughts on putting macerated sewage into a septic tank. I have seen some comments elsewhere advise that it does not digest as well. I am aware of the freezing concern here in Vermont and have a tried and tested methodology for combating that problem. Thanks again. Jon

Can you use a regular toilet

Asked by: Will
The Bathroom Anywhere macerator is designed to be connected with our own proprietary "rear discharge toilet." A standard toilet will not work with this macerator, a standard toilet needs a bottom discharge as the toilet empties towards the floor, which requires a floor drain.

Do you have to have a special shower?

Asked by: Will
Please note that no special shower is required; however, the water drainage from shower to macerator is gravity-fed, so usually the shower would be constructed on a slight raised platform to allow for the water flow to drain to macerator.

Macerator Pump 120 Volt is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from hard to position. rubber foot pads fell off constantly. Hose... hard to position. rubber foot pads fell off constantly. Hose clamps provided were 1 size too small. Connections should be out the back instead of the side of the unit. For $600 I expected more.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works okay I converted garage space to living quarters and added a bathroom. There is not much room for error when connecting the various input/output lines. Ensure you have measurements correct. The float that controls the pump seems to have issues. Out of the box it took some time for the pump to work consistently and switch on at the correct water level. I had to use the manual pump switch to pump the system for a few days until it seemed to get broken in. If not used for an extended period of time the same problem with the float happens (need to manually pump until it gets broken in). I have had no problem with leaks. Overall it gets the job done but wish the float/pump operated consistently.
