How do you activate the motion sensor?

I lost my instructions
Asked by: Joe
Plug motion into wall receptacle. Unit will not activate until room is dark and motion is detected. Photocell sensitivity can be adjusted by turning the sense dial clockwise to increase the unit's sensitivity to light. to better assist you contact us @ 1800-562-5625.

Customer Reviews

Indoor Digital Timer with Plug-In Motion Sensor is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Indoor plug-in motion sensor This motion sensor is the third one I have purchased. The previous two both failed after a year or two. When it's working it works great. The label with the printing describing the settings typically falls off and I have to reglue it. It's still a fair value for the price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality / Timer Failed in less than 6 months Timer completely stopped working in less than 6 months. It is supposed to have a lifetime warranty. Home Depot was no help. They refused to replace it. The manufacturer Brinks doesn't answer their phone and doesn't return messages. Bad product quality and worse customer service from both Home Depot and Brinks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cheap outlet motion sensor / detector I was hesitant to try these because the picture here really doesn't tell you enough, but they looked to be about half the size and price of other power outlet motion detectors I found online, so I tried 3 of them. Things you can't see in the HD picture: It is a different size bladed plug so you can't flip it, and the 2-prong only (no ground) plug for a light or appliance is there on the flattened right side. It's about 2" tall x 4" wide, and doesn't cover up or obstruct the use of the other outlet on a wall plate. I had trouble pressing the Mode button on one out of three of them, but the sticker with the writing on it comes off easily and you can poke the mode button with a pen if your fingernail won't do it. The instructions give 0 information about what the Light adjustment dial is supposed to do, but if there's the slightest bit of light already in a room, it wouldn't trip the motion sensor, so I duct taped over the light sensor and like it a lot more now. The time dial instructions say it's supposed to adjust between 1-30 minutes, but I don't know that it feels like a full 30. I put one in the office on the wall behind where we sit at computers, and we have to wave at it every now and then to keep the light on. Same for the one in the living room, except it faces us on the couch. Overall, it does a decent job for its price. I like walking into a dark room where the lamp is on the other side of the room and the light automatically turns on without having to fumble for the lamp switch, and I now don't get flack from the wife about forgetting and leaving the light on :)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from didnt work Couldn't get the motion sensor to work to turn on and then turn off w timer .. either light was always off or always on. Difficult to use because sticker with labels on buttons fell off within minutes due to outlet heat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from useful gadget for the right location Product was faulty right out of the package, so I called manufacturer's customer service. The rep was great, ended up sending me another "after he tested it". The directions about adjusting the two settings were atrocious - non-existent, really. I know one customer put tape over the light sensor so the light would come on whether you needed it or not; it was easier than trying to set the "light" adjustment dial! (that way it just thinks it's always dark in the room when you walk in). There's no numbers on the "time" adjustment dial(how long the light stays on after movement is no longer detected), so just play with it. Overall, it's really a fantastic gadget for the right location. I would've given 5 stars if there was even an attempt at printed directions included. Just make sure there's a clean sight line from where you enter the room to where the sensor will sit. You could always use an extension cord to achieve that if you needed to. Mine is only a few feet away from the entrance, so I can't offer a maximum working distance. May be useful for safety applications as well...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not very consistent but OK I had one of these motion sensors before, and I found it to be very good. This one doesn't seem to sense the motion nearly as consistently. Sometimes you have to be right in front of it before it will turn the light on, sometimes it will sense motion from 10 feet away. I wish it were more consistent, but I guess you can't ask much for that kind of money. I'd happily pay more for one that works better. My old one worked well for a year or two, but then was staying on long after it was supposed to, defeating the purpose of a motion sensor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice light activated motion sensor Timer quality is very good. My only issue was the front label fell off after 1 week in service (which was resolved by taping on the label). Instructions were vague, but I finally figured out how to operate it after a couple hours of experiments with the room lights on and off. I will purchase more of these units for other locations around my house.
