Does both sides of glass have plastic film for painting ease?

Asked by: harrmac
Yes, both sides of doors have plastic over glass. It keeps them well protected when painting door, as long as plastic wasn't damaged during shipping. After painted, I used a razor blade to cut plastic along the edges of glass and plastic was easily removed. Any paint that got on glass (due to plastic damaged during shipping) was easily scraped off with razor blade.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice door... time to install... I got this door to bring more light into a room and make it attractive. Installation took a lot of time and patience. The door was difficult to make square.. but with patience it was fine. After reading other reviews, i followed some advice. i painted one side and stained the other.. and they both turned out great. but you must sand the wood before you do either... the paint and stain will bubble if u don't. also i did i primer coat before painting. the plastic protection on the class from manufacturer was a wonderful time saver... the door looks great and i love it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good basis for special projects I needed to build French doors for a non-standard, arched 42" doorway in an old house. Estimates for custom doors ran from 5000 to 6000 $, way beyond my budget. The doors are from JELD-WEN, made in South Africa, the wood seemed mostly dry. The veneer is rather thin but the insides were solid and not too irregular. Big plus for me was the wide wooden border around the lites. I was easily able to rip the panels to the desired width. For my arches I simply flipped the doors upside down so I had enough material around the lites. Kickboard size is still sufficient. The lites are covered in plastic which makes it really convenient to paint, and final cleanup is a breeze. I mounted the doors on double action spring hinges, using two 4" hinges on each door (door weight ended up around 35 lbs per panel, so not an issue). Required a fair amount of re-mortising, obviously.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for perfectionists If you are looking to just slap some doors in this may be ok. There were too many inconsistencies in manufacturing. The header jamb was too short. To get a space between the doors that allowed the doors to be closed without hitting each other required putting a longer screw in the top hinges, which kind of bowed the side jambs. I have installed several interior double doors and never run into the problems this door provided. Also, where the side jambs met the top jamb was different on both sides. One side was not flush and the other was stapled at a degree other than 90. Bottom line is I shouldn't have to spend my time finding ways to accommodate poor manufacturing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Many manufacturing errors, tough install I just completed an installation of this door and had to correct several defects - screws were not centered in two hinges so their heads forced the hinge leaves apart. I had to substitute #8 1" screws - door frame was not stapled correctly, the joints were separated when I unwrapped the door - door hinge mortises were not mortised to a uniform depth which skewed the door - the stop mouldings were applied so that they detoured away from the face of the door. I had to pry them off and re-apply them with my brad nailer. - one of the door stiles was crooked (bowed along the wide dimension). When I put a 6' straightedge on the door I found that there was a 1/2" bulge in the middle of the door. I had to take the door off and make cut it straight with my track saw. All of these corrections took a long time, I will not buy this door for my next project.
