Installation takes patience, however, especially in a retrofit, because the frame and hinge assembly is not very robust. One thing to be aware of when you start to trim it out in any wall thicker than 4.5 inches (a standard 2x4 with two pieces of half-inch sheetrock) is the door frame material is NOT 3/4 pine. In the classical big-box mode of saving a penny, the framing material is 5/8 inch thick, so you may need different thickness shim for the door frame as opposed to the trim to make things fit tightly. If you're buying boards to trim it out, measure the frames carefully, you may have to buy non-standard thickness lumber or else make several passes through your planer.

I used it for fill in a 4 foot wide entry way. I originally thought the doors and frame would slide into the 4 foot wide hole. I quickly found that the size listed didn't include the frame. So I had to remove the doors and chisel / router out the holes for the hinges and door latches. After doing that the doors worked out nicely. Also the glass has a plastic coating over it so I was able to get sloppy with my painting then using a razor blade to cut the plastic then peal it off. This made painting so much easier. Trying to tape up each individual window would have been a pain. After finishing the job, I decided to buy another set of doors for a different room's entry way.

This French door and a 28" pine door for a closet. I am very disappointed in the quality of these doors. First of all, don't let the description of pine lead you to thinking this is a solid pine door. This is pine interior with a super-thin veneer over it. So thin, in fact, that it appears the glue was seeping through on the lower panel of the closet door. I had sanded the door prior to staining and there were still places where the stain didn't penetrate leaving unsightly marks on the door. There were also "bubbles" in the veneer of the French door where it had either delaminated or missed getting glue altogether. Another thing was the sloppy hinge routing. One of two was not deep enough, leaving the hinge sitting proud of the pocket and the other was not wide enough. The hinge was screwed in place with it's edge sitting on top of the surface and not even into the pocket. I would not recommend these doors, nor will I buy these from HD again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice door... time to install... I got this door to bring more light into a room and make it attractive. Installation took a lot of time and patience. The door was difficult to make square.. but with patience it was fine. After reading other reviews, i followed some advice. i painted one side and stained the other.. and they both turned out great. but you must sand the wood before you do either... the paint and stain will bubble if u don't. also i did i primer coat before painting. the plastic protection on the class from manufacturer was a wonderful time saver... the door looks great and i love it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good basis for special projects I needed to build French doors for a non-standard, arched 42" doorway in an old house. Estimates for custom doors ran from 5000 to 6000 $, way beyond my budget. The doors are from JELD-WEN, made in South Africa, the wood seemed mostly dry. The veneer is rather thin but the insides were solid and not too irregular. Big plus for me was the wide wooden border around the lites. I was easily able to rip the panels to the desired width. For my arches I simply flipped the doors upside down so I had enough material around the lites. Kickboard size is still sufficient. The lites are covered in plastic which makes it really convenient to paint, and final cleanup is a breeze. I mounted the doors on double action spring hinges, using two 4" hinges on each door (door weight ended up around 35 lbs per panel, so not an issue). Required a fair amount of re-mortising, obviously.

Hoverer it turn out to be a nightmare. The frame was not good its was made of staples holding the frame together with SOME FRAIL FLIMSPY PIECES OF WOOD . Once the door is taken out of the box its very hard to realigned. The screw holding the hinges to the frame are very short The door does not or could not be STAINED, like real wood. Called CU and they said I could return because of my stain issues looking for another FRENCH DOOR 48 x 80
