Is the power cord that goes inside the wall CL rated?

Asked by: Nick
It's not an extension cord it's the same type of cable that is used for a power outlet installed by an electrician (Romex cable). It is absolutely in wall rated and meets all fire and electric codes.

TV and outlet in different locations

Can I use this product if my TV is mounted to the wall in one place, say in the middle of the room over the fireplace. I want to hide the cords and bring them to the left corner of the room; is it easy to do this or is it only feasible if the cords are going up and down from the tv?
Asked by: slapshot212
You can do a non-vertical install by doing the standard installation (NOT using the tube) however you are limited in length. The NM cord has molded outlets built into both ends of the cords. Then you have to figure out where the blockages are in the wall. I would recommend you have an electrician regular install outlets for you to be sure.

However, I like the final product. I wish the oval face plate version was available at my local Home Depot. That version looks easier to install. If you purchase this as a DIY makes sure you measure the exact distance you want using a measuring tape along the desired wall. I did not do that and cut it a little too short. Hope this helps. (Also watch both oval and round face plate installation before you begin and during the round face plate installation measuring the wall is a step used in the oval technique and not in the round technique.) Hope this helps.

I found the CE Tech In-Wall Power Cord and Cable Kit to be the perfect solution for my recent large screen installation. I've done everything from building houses to changing outlets, so the process of installing cables in the wall was pretty easy for me. For me the attraction was the completeness of items supplied in the kit. They all work together to make a very professional looking and very well built installation. The instructions were complete and accurate as best as I could tell. Being a guy, I just skimmed the instructions and went right to work. Regardless, the fit and finish of the materials supplied, made the project come off without a hitch. I would recommend this kit to anyone who is planning on mounting a big screen on the wall. My wife was so impressed she told our friends how well it went and how great it looks. As a result, I have a couple of installs lined up for friends in the coming weeks.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not great for exterior walls with installation Installing this in an interior wall is probably a breeze. I was installing it into an exterior wall with insulation. The directions suggest that the fish tape makes it easy to pull the power cable and corrugated tube through a wall with insulation, but I found it nearly impossible. Once the insulation got caught as I tried to push the cable and tube downward through the wall, my efforts to force it through just jammed the insulation into a tighter bunch. I eventually had to cut a higher hole in the wall and dig all the insulation out to break the jam. That being said, the rest of the installation was pretty easy. The product is not the highest quality, but it works, and the price is great. It also looks good once installed. It's a good idea and I think for interior walls, it's a no-brainer. If you've got an exterior wall in mind, you mind want to consider other options (or just be prepared for a lot of frustration).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! This worked so well! The design is well thought out and it even included the hole saw! I have paid more in the past to buy all the components to do this job from scratch. No more! I will buy this kit from now on!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Well! This will take most people (including myself) more than thirty minutes. It took me 2 hours to complete. This solves the problem of being code compliant for your home insurance when running power cables in the wall. Comes with everything you need. Just make sure you measure twice before you cut your holes. It needs to be exact for them to seat properly. I just bought 2 more to do the other tvs in the house. We installed the round one not oval. I only gave it 4 stars because i could only fit 3 HDMI cables in the tube.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy! There's two install options. One that uses the flex tube, and one that doesn't. I chose to not use the flex tube, since I plan to add more devices later on. The setup was a breeze. The only part that requires any "skill" is drilling the hole. Thankfully this comes with the exact sized hole saw bit that makes a perfect hole. Also, because the power wire that runs between each piece is actual electrical wiring, it isn't a fire hazard or against fire code.

As long as you have the basic tools, this kit comes with everything you'll need. I was surprised to see that the hole saw was also included. I'm happy with how well the install went and also knowing that I have a raceway if I ever need to run more wires. Highly recommend this product if you're hanging you TV. (I have yet to run the speaker wires behind the wall and finish the rest of the install.)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Product is fine if you cut the proper holes, and your walls are free of insulation or any other blockages, this product should work for you. I discovered wood (and concrete?) halfway in between the two holes, so now I'm stuck patching and painting for the rest of the day. Also, I don't think this product is particularly easy to install. It's completely doable, but it's not as simple as drilling two holes and throwing some cables down them. The tube is bulky and hard to maneuver & my NM cord had a lot of kinks that weren't so easy to straighten out. As others have said, if you take your time & maybe even tape the NM cord on straight you should be fine--as long as you have nothing inside your walls blocking the way.
