Can this grill be converted to natural gas

On line I have been trying for over an hour to find a 2 burner Char Broil Grill that can be converted to natural gas. I found an all black 2 burner from Target Item number 13805704 but I cannot find out if it can be converted to Natural Gas or which conversion kit to buy? HELP Thank you
Asked by: DJC1220
Yes this grill can be converted to natural gas. You have to purchase a conversion kit to change the main burner...from Charbroil...4584625 is the part number.

Does this grill use charcoal and propane?

Asked by: Anonymous
The INFRARED model has a "dish" that sits above the flames of the heat source and below the grates. Charbroil calls this a "trough". This is what cause this grill to be an INDIRECT heat source. The accompanying literature says you can put Wood CHIPS into the bowl for smoking (which work best if soaked in water). It is silent about using charcoal in that bowl for either that purpose or for using as an alternative heat source with the gas turned off.. I would think that charcoal burning in that "bowl" would eventually destroy the plough. It is made out of a relatively thin sheet of some kind material unknown to me.

What is the difference between model number 463251413 which is on line showing but the store has it as model number 463251414

Asked by: RLiverm
The main difference between the two grills is the year that each was manufactured. Model # 463251413 is a 2013 grill and model # 463251414 is a 2014 grill. Both grills utilize the same TRU-Infrared technology and cooking space.

can you cook with indirect heat on a two burner?

Asked by: Anonymous
If you are using a two burner DIRECT HEAT bar-b-que - try placing the meat in an aluminum foil baking pan. This will still cook very quickly if the fire source is only 2 inches or so from the grates. If your grill has heat source 4 inches or more from the grates, the better. If there is a warming rack, put the meat inside the aluminum foil baking pan on the warming rack to increase the distance of the meat from the fire. An alternative is to use a cast iron dutch oven, but that will be heavy and you risk burning your hands if you don't pick it up with welder gloves or pan holders doubled with oven mitts. Because that cast iron dutch oven will become EXTREMELY HOT. You can even use a cast iron dutch oven to braise. If you have a INDIRECT heat grill (often labeled as INFRARED - but I don't know if they are really infrared), you already have the indirect capability. Indirect heat is not so good for searing, and generally not desirable for steaks & burgers. Indirect heat is great for chicken and roasts - as they often drip and burn. Since bar-b-ques are setup to ventilate (I believe for safety reasons), indirect heat will escape the unit. The heat will not be "trapped" like it is in a regular oven. It is therefore a lot less efficient than a direct heat grill or an indoor oven. Which means longer cooking times and more expense due to more frequent refills of your propane bottle.

Customer Reviews

Gourmet TRU-Infrared 2-Burner Propane Gas Grill is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 755.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't believe the bad reviews Don't get me wrong this does take some practice but once you get it down you'll be grilling like a pro. Unlike your standard propane grill the burners are shielded with a concave drip pan so there is no direct flame to grill surface contact. It does take some time to heat up in order to get a good sear marks but it's worth the extra 5 mins. No more over done steaks or poultry, just perfectly done the way you want them. PS other stores sell this specific model but Home Depot is the only place that sells this newer version. The other version has temp gages above the turn knobs which are ineffective and a different "harder" to clean grill surface, don't buy that one.

The starter button has broke off from the front and now hangs inside the grill, the tru plate has rusted and has several holes in it burning food, the temperature reader has to be tapped consistently while cooking for it to read correctly as it sticks, and HomeDepot assembled the side plates on incorrectly and they don't even function. I'm so upset that I want to take the grill to HomeDepot and throw it out of the truck at the front door. I'm livid with Char-Broil and Homedepot!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great grill, better than expected There were none left when we went to purchase so we bought the floor model which was fine as we didn't have to assemble it. This grill has a curved metal shield which converts the flame to radiant heat which cooks without direct flame. What we have cooked so far (steaks, burgers, veggie kabobs) have never been juicer, and no flame burns! a huge plus. I looked into it, and if you want there are grates right there in the grill parts aisle that you can put in place of the heat shield and use it like a conventional grill but after using the grill I no longer see any need to do that unless you are a die-hard flame fan. One of the main reasons for buying this grill is its smaller size, which fit our patio. Highly recommend

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Dad present ever! So I got the grill for my dad, who wanted an infrared grill because he heard good things about it. And now he can't imagine grill life without it. It uses gas so you "taste the meat not the heat" and makes those nice grill marks that he tried to get with the other grill. Home Depot was also really helpful because they assembled for us. My dad is a cook not an engineer. And at first we thought it would be difficult to clean because I heard from a co-worker who does have one that his is difficult to clean. But all my we do is burn off the grit and it's good to go again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better Than Earlier Model Just bought this one and it works great. Had the previously model for the last few years and it worked good, too; only this one is definitely an upgrade. To wit: better dials, better grates and overall cooking surfaces and a much better catch pan, i.e. much easier to clean and maintain. What great about this grill is that it heats great and the wind does not effect the flame or puts it out, and with only two burners it is very efficient - a bottle of propane lasts a long time and we BBQ a lot. But we careful and get the newer version that HD sells and not the one sold by their major competitor - they are still selling the old version and both stores sell them for the same price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent grill for the price Bought this grill pre-assembled. I did my research before buying infared, I suggest you do the same. The negative reviews on here are from people who did not. Common sense tells me that direct contact from burner flame will cook faster than the infared technology. This is a grill you can put a 20 dollar steak on and go grab another beer without fear of burning your food or burning down the house. It cooks evenly and heats up just fine. It is easily cleaned and has good access for tools and the tank. I will admit that the cooking decals do flake off quickly like previously mentioned but if you cant remember or cant tell the difference between high and low settings you need not be near a grill anyway!! In a nut shell this product has a fair price for the quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really enjoying this grill I purchased the 2 burner grill for my small deck. It stores and looks great. It gets hot and my food has turned out wonderful. The assembly was time consuming (2 hrs+ and I'm decently handy) and I couldn't get two screws into a side panel, but still worth it. The ignitor button broke off, so perhaps a bit cheap on some material, but still works fine. I would buy this again and recommend to a friend. I think it's a good value. I read reviews that the grills rusted, so I'm keeping mine oiled up as recommended in the instructions. Fingers crossed that the oil will keep it from rusting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Completely Satisfied I've just started cooking with this grill and all I can say so far is ..WOW. It does a fantastic job on steaks and I can't wait to try more things. I read most of the reviews and I was a little concerned about the ones that said it didn't get hot enough, but the instructions are very clear if this happens and those people having that issue just didn't take the time read them. The grill reaches maximum temperature in about 10 minutes with no problem. Honestly, don't let the negative reviews scare you at all. You will be extremely happy cooking with this grill.
