where do you get the replacement line for this trimmer

I would like to buy this trimmer the reviews are great everyone likes it! But if it's a lot of trouble to get the line --- SORRY NO SELL!!
Asked by: Silverdollar84
When I bought my trimmer, I bought Rino-Tuff Heavy Duty replacement line as I knew I would eventually need it. I got it at Home Depot also and today I had to use it for the first time. It is wonderful. It has line cutter on it also and I just cut it to 19" which is what the original line was. Wish I had known this was so much better than what came with the machine. Easy to replace on the machine as well.

do you need to mix the oil and gas or are they separate?

Asked by: MusicMan
DO Not put oil in the gas. The machine is a 4 cyl. and can run on straight gas. The oil is like in a conventional engine and is separate. Check it often and use the right type. 30 weight, 4 cycl oil.

Why the rule of only mowing up to 15 degrees of incline?

Is this a safety issue, or an issue of oil not getting to the engine if the engine is tilted farther than that?
Asked by: Carolyn
Common sense is all. Just trim the face of the slope so you can handle machine easier. Not trim up or down.

Who is the manufacturer of the engine? Honda? Briggs & Stratton? Another?

Asked by: prisoner6
Generic vertical shaft Chinese. Similar at Harbor Freight for $100 or so. Fixed throttle and choke -- starts up immediately, cuts just fine without fussy adjustments. This is a simplified MTD (Mostly-Tin-Device) copy of the DR format. Lighter weight, much easier to handle.

ST100 22 in. 159cc Gas Walk-Behind String Trimmer is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 227.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product is a beast! Set up was beyond easy, adjust the handle, set the pull cord, add oil, add gas. Didn't even need to adjust trimmer height. 1st pull started right up. I own a straight shaft, steel blade trimmer I usually use on this (not my yard), but I get covered in mud and grass, exhausted and poison ivy. The Cub Cadet just blasted through this stuff. The big wheels helped move over the mud dobbers easier. Pay attention to the incline directions cause it will tip. Only had to replace lines twice, and that was user error cause I tried trimming rocks, not recommended. Glad I made the purchase!

I have a 21 acre property and I bought this mainly to maintain a 200 ft fire line around my home that I wanted bare. The land around my home isn't entirely flat so a tractor isn't the best tool. It was easy to find the tool in the store and a home depot employee helped load it into my truck(Poway employees have been GREAT! My favorite home depot). Once I got it home and out of the box, I started the setup which is EASY. Pull up the handle bars and choose which setting you like, pour the whole container of oil that came with the machine into it, fill with gas and you're set! My only issue is my machine had a handle arm that connects to the machine and the handle itself, damaged sometime during the process getting to home depot. I'll be contacting Cub Cadet to get a new one. I had to bend it into shape with a pair of pliers to get it to thread. Some people complain that it doesn't have an idle option. I don't find that to be an issue. If the line breaks, I don't want to put new line on the machine unless its off. It always starts on one pull when warm, two when cold. I don't see the issue here. With the machine up and running, I got to work. I have your usual tall grass and thick weeds that show up in any ecosystem. The Cub Cadet with the factory line made easy work of these. I could trim nearly infinitely with the factory line on those plants. When it comes to the thick California chaparral, the Cub Cadet does an OK job. It's not the machine's fault because it's not the price of a $2,500 brush mower. Line is not made to cut through 1/2" thick desert shrubs. With that said, I could take down 2 or 3 of those shrubs before needing to replace the line. When I bought my Cub Cadet, I also bought a 100' spool of Rino-Tuff .155 line from home depot. With that line, I could maybe get through one shrub before needing to replace the line. I'll be looking elsewhere for line because home depot, sears and tractor supply co. don't sell tough enough line for me. I was able to clear about 3 acres of thick weeds on varied terrain in around 5 hours. If it was perfectly flat with grass type weeds only, I could had done twice as much. Overall, I'm surprised and impressed with this machine. If it even gives me one season of faithful service, I would had gotten my money out of it. If i paid someone to do the work for me this machine has done for me, it would cost me $1,000 or more. I've only had it for 2 days and my neighbors are so impressed with it, they're asking to borrow it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cub Cadet ST100 $329 I was considering the DR Trimmer @ $399 but after chatting with their support i still couldn't decide if their entry level 675 model would be enough for my yard. They couldn't convince me. After selling some items on Criagslist I had $230 cash in my pocket and the banks were already closed so I decided to take a chance on the similarly spec'd Cub Cadet. Worst case i could take it back and they could put the money on my card. After spending an hour with it i feel confident that the Cub Cadet was the right choice for a 2 year neglected back yard. It is really the best option for an overgrown yard. My weed wacker wouldnt make a dent in it. This thing goes through the weeds and growth like butter.

Don't particularly like the design of the gas tank. Big engines runs that small tank empty pretty quick. Engine will "miss" or lope sometimes and it has to be perfectly level to smooth out. Replacing string is a breeze and it starts first or second pull everytime. Love how it eats head high Johnson grass and how it fits under bushes ect. Other than the loping problem it exceeds my expectations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product. I liked how it handled. It cut large woody ragweed canes. I wouldn't do that regularly, but it can. It is fast and efficient. I would like it if there were some way to know how close you are to things because it is easy to get into stuff you would rather not. There are two manuals. You have to go back and forth between them to figure out what you need to know in order to set it up and run it for the first time.

The trimmer makes mowing around trees, fences and post out in the pasture easy, therefore, I like it like no other trimmer. I have had this trimmer about a month, but the first walk behind string trimmer I had it approx 10 years. It meets all of my expect- ations.

Easy to handle and maneuver. Have used it for about 5 hours on each of three days. Just a wonderful machine and makes getting rid of high grass and small thorn bushes easily. At this point there is nothing that I dislike about the machine. It performs better than I expected!

Took it to dealer, he replaced belt & it still comes off every 10 minutes. Use it for 10 minutes & then spend 30 minutes replacing the belt. Will need to replace this machine with another model.
