I have owned 3 walk behind string trimmers. The name doesn’t do this product justice. One was an off brand trimmer that wasn’t adequate for a well-manicured residential lawn. The second was a Husqvarna full sized walk behind string trimmer. I still respect the brand but I was repairing this string trimmer after every use. It just couldn’t do the job. I replaced that Husqvarna with the Cub Cadet and I wasn’t disappointed. I just bought my second Cub Cadet for a second location. I can’t use a mower and a small electric weed trimmer will work fine around my RV but 15; out I need a beast to handle my property and my Cub Cadet gets the job done. I have also owned a Cub Cadet riding mower. I was the third family member owner and it was still working when I no longer had a need for it. This walk behind weed trimmer is the one to own.

Set up was beyond easy, adjust the handle, set the pull cord, add oil, add gas. Didn't even need to adjust trimmer height. 1st pull started right up. I own a straight shaft, steel blade trimmer I usually use on this (not my yard), but I get covered in mud and grass, exhausted and poison ivy. The Cub Cadet just blasted through this stuff. The big wheels helped move over the mud dobbers easier. Pay attention to the incline directions cause it will tip. Only had to replace lines twice, and that was user error cause I tried trimming rocks, not recommended. Glad I made the purchase!

I was considering the DR Trimmer @ $399 but after chatting with their support i still couldn't decide if their entry level 675 model would be enough for my yard. They couldn't convince me. After selling some items on Criagslist I had $230 cash in my pocket and the banks were already closed so I decided to take a chance on the similarly spec'd Cub Cadet. Worst case i could take it back and they could put the money on my card. After spending an hour with it i feel confident that the Cub Cadet was the right choice for a 2 year neglected back yard. It is really the best option for an overgrown yard. My weed wacker wouldnt make a dent in it. This thing goes through the weeds and growth like butter.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Word2Wise Handle Snapped at First Use. Buyer Beware.
Trimmer cuts incredibly well, but the handle snapped near the connection to the frame on its first use. The return/replacement was easy as I had purchased it the day before. It's hard to be gentle with a piece of equipment designed to tackle tough brush in difficult places, so I remain concerned this problem could/will happen again. I believe the handle was not properly designed and should be reinforced. The lateral movement caused the hollow tubing to snap, much like what happens when you bend a piece of metal back and forth, over and over. The manufacturer should reassess. Buyers beware.

I had researched this machine and decided it was a good fit for cutting a large high weed field. Started up easily as stated. Appears well made. Cuts high grass and weeds easily, even some small saplings. Does not need string replaced much. One bizarre problem was that after a short time initially, the engine ran erratically and was stalling out and hard to re-start. Thinking maybe the gas could be the problem, I dumped it out. The gas tank had several roaches dead in it and was clogging the gas flow. Had to be there from when the tank was empty and no cap. Only con is that with no self-propelled mechanism, it can be a little difficult to manipulate.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by woodsy It's a beast! (with the right string)
We bought this trimmer to clear grasses and brush in the rough and wooded terrain around our house. We were initially disappointed because, while it cleared the grasses easily, the string (which came with the product) wrapped around and broke on the berry stalks and small saplings that were everywhere. We had to snip these all by hand, which made the trimmer almost worthless to us. Then my husband found a heavy duty string at our local rental shop and decided to try it with our trimmer. It was amazing! The machine was able to rip through rough brush with alder saplings without breaking once. I am a 67 year old woman, and i was able to maneuver the trimmer over rotting logs, and other small obstacles. I was able to clear vegetation to bare dirt level which will help tremendously with fire mitigation. This trimmer has now become our most important landscaping tool. The string we used is Diamond Edge brand 0.155 inch diameter.

This string trimmer is good and easy to use. However, out of the box the safety cable attachment was broke so I had to take it to an authorized dealer to fix which was almost thirty miles from my home. Pretty aggravating for a brand new machine. In addition, it was broken because where it connects to the handle is 100% plastic - cheaper to make I'm sure but pretty stupid for a machine made for brush cutting. Other than that major gaffe, the machine performed well tackling four foot high brush and clearing at least a quarter acre of land. Only time will tell how it holds up.
