I need to order an air stabler/nailer for my son to install 3/4 inch thick oak plank flooring, I was told by lumber liquidator rep to make sure it was 15.5 gauge. Is a pneumatic and air stapler/nailer the same thing?
My son mentioned not to forget to order the air hose to connect the tool to the compressor. Does this Dewalt one get used with an air hose and compressor?
How do I know what staples to order to fit it?
How do I know what air hose to order to be used with it?
Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Answer:
yes pneumatic means air. This stapler is much better than one from lumber liquidators! yes it needs air compressor and air hose. the staple and cleats you can get at home depot and will specify in instructions and are listed above in description. It takes 15.5 gauge staples or 16 gauge cleats up to 2 inches long. 3/8 air hose is what i use but even a 1/4 inch will work fine.

15.5-Gauge and 16-Gauge 2-in-1 Pneumatic Flooring Tool is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like a charm I used this to install pre-finished oak. It worked perfectly. It does come with a warning against using it on pre-finished boards, but it is clearly manufactured to avoid scuffing or marring the surface. I would buy this again.

What stands out most to me is how easy it is to use and how the results look professional. So far I have only done one room, about 130 square feet, but that one room looks better than the Kitchen which I paid a "professional" to install. The only jam I had was when I was in a tight place and barely hit the button. You do not have to hit it very hard, but you do have to "hit" it. Jam cleared easily. I bought what I thought was the best one for the money and hoped it would let me do three room. It is much higher quality than I expected. As long as you watch a couple of installation videos, almost anyone could install a hard wood floor without paying for installation.

It is not made in China, however, like most of the flooring nailers out there, except for the venerable Bostitch MIII and MIII. I own one of the MIII's, and it is a great nailer...except for bamboo, which is what I got this one for. I am installing over 1000 sq ft of 5/8" bamboo, and the staples were splitting the bamboo, making it tough to get the next board to go over the tongue. I reduced the pressure, but it still was splitting, and I DID shim the base platge to make sure the staples were going in the correct position. This nailer required FAR less pressure ( perhaps because my MIII is old, and worn). I had to take the pressure down to 70PSI to get it to set the cleats JUST right. I also had to shim the 5/8" baseplate a bit to get it to place the cleats accurately. A bit disappointing. However, once I got these two items taken care of, it has worked quite well. Durability is still a question, but it DOES have a 7 year warranty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DeWalt Nailer Excellent tool! Works well; draws up Flooring tightly. Disappointed that 3/4" base plate broke on first day; still usable, but I would like to buy a replacement part. How to buy?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My every day hardwood nailer. I use this nailer every day for installing hardwood flooring of all types. It is a great value, and I only have a few complaints. The overall width from front to back is a little too much. It's hard to get in close to the walls, and off the first couple rows. Also, the rack for the cleats could hold them a little better without slipping. Having said that, for the money this is a GREAT flooring nailer. Compared to the standard nailers at twice the cost, I am thinking of getting another one. I use cleats not staples, and this nailer works every single day in a professional capacity. I like it a lot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dewalt flooring nailer The flooring nailer worked fairly well. I used the nails, not staples. Only problem I had was near end of clips gun would sometimes jam if I put a clip in before fully empty. Also, some times the spring loaded activator would jump the nail clip. Other than that- good quality. Set flooring tight and set nails perfectly. I'm a big Dewalt fan, just wish gun didn't jam a couple times.
