Questions & Answers

What is the difference between the "double" bevel sliding compound miter saw for $600 and the "dual" bevel sliding compound miter saw for $400?

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.
Asked by: Possum
The biggest difference between this saw and the $600 saw is the other saw has a 2" taller capacity at the fence for cutting moldings. If you compare the drive mechanism of the two saws you will see the difference of the two, which is how they achieved the taller cut. There are a few other minor differences of the two but the cut at the fence is the biggest I saw.

What is the difference between a dual bevel and a double bevel sliding mitre saw?

Asked by: JGT
I believe this is mis-labeled by Home Depot as dual bevel when in-fact it is only a single bevel saw.

Can this saw cut 2x10 lumber in one pass ?

Asked by: Marc
straight across (90 degrees) it can cut up to 2x14 if you set up with a back fence. 2x12 with no special set up. Can cut a bevel on the wood also. If you need a 45 degree angle on the cut, then it's only 8 inches.

what is the maximum width board this saw can cut?

Asked by: leo77
This saw can cut 2x10 lumber at 90 deg, however it will require the work piece to be supported by scrap 2x4's for more of the blade diameter to be used. This is explained in more detail in the provided instruction manual. Bevel cuts of 45 deg can also be performed on 2x10's with this method. Miter cuts at other than 90 deg will reduce the size of lumber that can be cut in one operation.

15 Amp 12 in. Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 176.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Big Mistake I bought this one due to the price. It seemed that everything was right about it (motor, blade size, and it was a slider!). Used it on a few projects over a couple of years and then the motor burned out while cutting base boards. No heavy usage, just projects around the house. I have had a regular Dewalt compound miter for almost 15 years and it saved the day. I will not skimp on a slider again. In the end it will cost me $1000 for a $600 saw since I threw away $400. I love Dewalt but this really is frustrating.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from For Shame DeWalt... I am a DeWalt man, tried and true. Most of the tools and hand tools I own are made by DeWalt. I have never had any complaints before and find their corded products are usually the best for a professional to own in my opinion. My old DW708 was getting old and beaten up from years of abuse, plus the bearings were starting to go so I decided to upgrade to the new model. I couldn't find any real difference between this saw for $400 and the DW780 for $600 so I purchased this one. From the very beginning all of my miters were open on the bevel, even when cutting regular 2.25" pine casing. This thing can't make a straight cut to save its life, bevel or miter. In my line of work, the end cut is all that matters and I promptly put this back on the shelf and brought out my old 708 again. I took this to the local service center TWICE and they told me it was calibrated perfectly I shouldn't have any problem. I brought in a piece of trim to cut right in front of them to show them the same problem. Then they said I needed to switch the blade used. I was using a Diablo 80T (which every professional and their brother uses) and they said I should only be using a DeWalt blade. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I bought one and had the same problem. Whatever the issue is, this thing is JUNK!!! I don't even use it for rough framing. I would give it zero stars if possible. Pass this one by and go with something else...Maybe a Bosch.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent saw This is my second 12" compound mitre saw. I'm comparing this to model # 718. This saw cuts fine both on mitres and square cut. Does not have a positive lock for bevel cuts. Does not have a carrying handle. When cutting an angle cut you have to screw in the grip to lock the saw to that angle instead of locking it down like the 718. I could go on with dislikes, in short this is a cheaper or no frills saw. A basic saw for a good price. Not for a contractor looking for production. Takes too long to change for different cuts.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does only half of what a model 780 does. ... Does only half of what a model 780 does. Its more like in the middle of a 10 - 12 inch saw. Very disappointed. Will not recommend to anyone.

I thought I was getting a great deal buying this saw and I didn't see much of a difference between this and the 780, well I was wrong. From the start this saw has cut all my miters open from the bevel. At first I thought it was just my blade so I tried a different one with a thicker kerf, nope it still can't cut straight. I wouldn't recommend this to any professional, maybe a DIY'er but that is a stretch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great saw This saw replaced a similar unit (non sliding and only 10 inch). Having the larger size blade and the sliding option provides the ability to make cuts on larger projects. My opinion on dewalt is they are making quality tools for reasonable prices. I have multiple dewalt tools and like them all!

The saw was purchased for a home project requiring cutting a bevel edge on 12-inch by 1/2-inch composite deck boards. The saw absolutely achieved this objective. The saw is easy to operate and is very mobile.
