I purchased this drill for the impact, and both are outstanding. The larger batteries 3ah last a long time befor needing a charge. the larger batteries add some weight but is very tolerable. smaller batteries 1.5ah are readily available should i need. the impact worked great for a deck project 16x 24' deck only needed two charges for all the screws and lag bolts. have not used the hammer drill yet but boring large holes for gates was very easy with an auger bit. highly recomend this product. if you are looking for a solid drill that is built to last, and don't like changing batteries i suggest this set from dewalt

Killer battery life , über compact and much lighter than anything in it's class (even with the 3.0Ah battery) Just got rid of my corded hammer drill as I will no longer be needing that..... Impact driver is the best I have ever used. Without a doubt, worth the extra $100 that I hadn't planned on spending. This this set is the bomb !

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by John2012 Excellent Dewalt combo for impact and hammer drill
I got it on sale for $310. I have to say it is the deal that i can get. The impact gun has ton of power. The hammer drill performs excellent on concrete. So far so good, i haven't had any problem with this set. It is a must if you are a serious DIY or contractor!.

This combo is a BIG step up in value and durability compared to both Craftsman & DeWalt's next step down combo. The variable speed drill, with 3 speed selections, has a higher RPM than comparables. The two batteries are equipped with fuel gauges, plus they run the tools for a lot longer per charge. My only con is the inability to wall-hang the charger. Hanging reduces dust & dirt accumulation; plus it does not take up bench real estate. The drill/battery tool is quite heavy, but that's the expected trade-off for the benefits.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Rickie Fix It Kit!!
We are not the "fix it" family but this kit has made miracle repairs and upgrades around the house. It was a breeze to replace outside siding, relocate kitchen cabinets for new vent, and replacing lights & mirror in bathroom. Having the right tools has made the word "frustrating" disappear from our vocabulary. Excellent buy for the DIY family. Thanks!

Awesome drills! Had them 2 years now using them 5 days a week !! and still going strong. The hammer mode on the drill IMO is the best out there for a cordless drill. I wouldn't put a 1/2 mason bit in it but it's great for smaller bits to make holes for small tap cons etc.. The impact is great too. I admit, I've done things with it that I shouldn't have done but it still holds it's own. Highly recommend it!!! 5 stars hands down .

I work both as a contractor doing new construction and repair work, and and as a theatrical carpenter. This set is absolutely overkill for all but the biggest jobs that I will ever do.
The impact driver... For a lot of weight bearing set pieces that I build, I use 2x4s and 3-1/2" deck screws. This thing will literally drive the head of a deck screw through the 2x4 until the driver bottoms out and the bit can't touch the screw any more. That, and it doesn't even seem to realize there was a screw there. I wouldn't quite go so far as to use it on lug nuts, but I've already used it to insert 3/4" lag bolts 12" long.
The drill is almost scary. Friday I was going through 2x4s with a 1" spade bit, in high gear. When I pushed hard, it started to slow down. I couldn't stop it unless the bit jammed. If you were running in 1st gear with a big bit, you definitely want to have the side handle on there. It has the torque to hurt you if you aren't on top of it.
And then there's the batteries. I can definitely tell the difference between the 18v XRP batteries and these 20v MAX things. The 3AH battery is definitely not small, but it provides almost unreal torque and a very long runtime. I'm very impressed.
Overall, I'm very happy with this kit so far. I haven't had it long enough to vouch for it's durability, but it certainly appears to be very well designed, with just as much aluminum frame as plastic.
