Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall excellent, but drawbacks These are without doubt high quality bits. I have used them for about 6 years, and bought another set for a new household; that says a lot. The downside relates to these bits having "Pilot Point tips" instead of the usual 135 Degree split point that all (?) other drill bits use. The Pilot Point tip is essentially a small diameter split point. But the cutting/drilling surface of the DeWalt bits is flat. Because of this, one cannot use these bit to enlarge a smaller drilled hole, as these bits do not self-center - which all other bits do. Also as a result of the Pilot Point and flat cutting edges, these bits seem to screw themselves into the substrate - without drilling a round hole! - more than standard design bits do. So for these reason, 4 stars, not 5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Drill Bit Set I used this drill bit set to drill through some very heavy duty steel (used 7/32" as a pilot then opened it up with the 1/2" bit) so I could run a 1/2" Hex Bolt through it. Not only did the bits not break, but they withstood so much pressure that my wrist was jerked off of the drill on a couple occasions and I have an extremely strong grip. The drill bits look new after use (see picture) and they were so impressive I even took the time to put them back in their case properly (I usually don't bother with the cheap bits that break, and believe me I've broken quite a few). These bits are outstanding.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not for metal Probably good for wood and other materials, but it says on the package good for metal. If you plan to drill into metal with these, good luck. Perhaps useful for very soft metals. I tried to use these to drill some holes in the bumper of my truck (steel) to install a hitch. As another reviewer mentioned, the pilot point shape makes it next to impossible to enlarge smaller holes. As I was looking to drill a 1/2" hole, that was pretty much my only option. Part way through enlarging from 3/16 to 1/4" the 1/4" drill bit shattered into many pieces. Even before that, progress was painstakingly slow. I would not recommend these for drilling into metal

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Bang for the Buck Drill! These are great drill bits for the money. I was shocked how long they lasted. I have been using these drill bits for over 2 years now for various projects. For wood, plastic, aluminum, and lite steel these work great! Pros: Nice case TI coated Pilot point bit sharp Cons: Bits come loose in case over time smaller drills can break easy/not forgiving

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value for the money I was looking for drill bit of a specific size. You know how it is: you can buy one for $7 or you can buy a whole set for $20. I had already used other bits of the same type in the past, and they worked very well for me. So I said, might as well get the whole set. I'm not a power user, but I can tell the difference between these drill bits and the cheap generic ones you get typically when you buy a new drill. These work much better and stay sharp a lot longer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quality is lacking These are just not the quality you would expect from a name like Dewalt. The first bit I used broke on the 4th hole that I made, snapping the bit off in the hole and this was on soft pine. I had to go find my cheapo drill bits to finish the project. It is sad when the no-name cheapy bits last for years and the name brand bit lasts for about 45 seconds. Save your money unless you just have to have the big name products, because they are not really worth it.
