They can be mounted in either configuration, but it will have more range of adjustability if mounted on a wall. I mounted mine on soffit though, and don't have any complaints.

I mounted my fixture on a vertical wall, but the instructions show how the unit can be mounted horizontally, and assuming you have the space, clearance and adequate mounting surface, I see nothing that would prevent it from being mounted on a soffit.

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 214 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really like the Dual Bright system One problem that traditional motion activated security light have is either on or off. The dual bright allows you to have a low level light on all the time, then a bright motion activated light. This gives you some view when not in triggered mode, which makes the light dual use. Adjustment of the light panels and PIR sensor is as wide as you could expect. See some examples in images attached to the review. The mounting is really simple by use of a mounting plate that you secure and wire. Then the light is screwed into the plate. It keep you from having to hold up the entire light while wiring and mounting . This makes things go much easier, especially when mount up on a ladder. April 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very bright light and the motion sensor works great. This kit has a new innovative mounting system that avoids wire nuts; I like the concept and it was easy to install. The "Dual-Bright" feature is very cool, the light typically operates at about 50% brightness and motion causes it to go to 100% brightness. This is a nice feature and is considerate of your neighbors. Overall this is a very good outdoor light which is able to be mounted to either a wall (typical) or ceiling (under an eave). October 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This Motion outdoor security light is okay, not great at all. Not a lot of movement with the sensor head. It stopped working at about 6 months. I was going to Home Depot and I saw a lady returning this very same light, she said hers stopped working after a couple months, but lucky for her she still had the box and receipt. Next light I get, not this one, I will be keeping the box and receipt. I have to calk this one up as a lost. October 27, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Bright Light This is Home Depot's private label and is good if you spend the money for the better products. I tried the level down on a very good sale and the quality was poor for a variety of reasons. I was given the discount on the upper grade model however. Ease of installation and operation are good on this model. The lights are attractive and modern looking and light up the surrounding area very well. No dangerous heat and no bulb to replace and energy efficient. I ended up with two on each side of the garage and one on the entryway up the stairs on the deck. Do not buy the lower priced models, they have limited control features and the one I installed would blink on and off endlessly. Traded in for the this better model with great results. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by does not work -motion detecor October 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk - Stopped working after only 4 months! Regarding how it worked for the short amount of time when it did: The light was very bright. This model has auto-dim setting you can use to make the light stay on dimly, dawn to dusk, and then brighten (during the night) when motion triggered. But, the dim setting actually isn't really that dim. I now need to remove it (time), return it (gas + time), and reinstall another one (time). I wish stores & manufacturers that sell such poor merchandise would care about wasting customers time and efforts! October 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I bought five of these to install around my home and they were very easy to install, are very bright and have great sensing range. My first time using LED lighting technology outdoors and, since there is no minimum temperature spec or operating temperature range listed, I hope they work as well when the temperatures fall to below zero this winter... October 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Failed within one year. No replacement or repairable components. seals unit. JUNK October 26, 2016
