White spots on leave

Asked by: Squeaky
Hello, The Marginata with white specs on the leaves is likely to have an insect such as Mealy Bug or Scale present. Please inspect, if possible, to see if that's the case. If so, we suggest you safely use a mild insecticide such as Safer Soap and apply per label instructions. A follow up application may be necessary. We hope this information is helpful!

Dracaena Marginata is growing outside ( in Florida 20 plus years), getting too tall, when is the best time of year to prune

Asked by: dee
Hello, Late April thru early October is a good time of year to prune back Dracaena marginata in South Florida. This should allow for some regrowth time before the risk if over chill exposure to low nighttime temperatures during the cool season. The new growth needs to start maturing and hardening off somewhat beforehand. Anticipate some sun scald symptoms on the foliage that is not currently exposed and acclimated to sun conditions after pruning. It is best not to prune off more that half of the existing plant form for both the overall height and foliage. Consider leaving some leaves on the stem below the point that the prune is made to the extent possible. On occasion the stems that are cut below the area with foliage will tend to die back to the base. We hope this information is helpful!

Why would the leaves droop down and new ones grow

Asked by: Candy
Hello! Dracaena marginata inherently have the new leaves emerge upright from the growth point and then will start to cascade outwards and after downwards as they mature. If the leaves are overly or prematurely drooping it can be due to lack of moderate ongoing soil moisture or have a root disorder.. Dracaena marginata have very aggressive root growth and it may have become root bound in its current container. If that has occurred then okay to replant into an 8” diameter pot with a good quality potting soil formulated for house plants or foliage. Afterwards maintain ongoing moderate soil moisture levels and avoid overly drying in between watering intervals. However also avoid soggy soil or standing water at the base of the plant or pot. Thank you for your inquiry!

I left it in it's original container and bought a larger decorative one from Home Depot to place it in. Will re-pot it next spring. Nice looking plant that compliments my living room. Good price too.
