Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by completely satisfies my needs The 40 lb. Solar Salt Crystals satisfies my whole-house water softening requirement. The 40 Lb. weight is manageable from Auto to Furnace Room; 80 Lb. bags are simply too heavy, even for a 6'8", 275 guy (true many years before reaching current age of 72). The product size and quality 'works for me'. September 5, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not recommended for Kenmore or GE water softners I have purchased this product from the local Home Depot for years because Culligan recommends solar salt for my old softener. The problem is the filth that is in the salt stained my tank, and required regular cleaning. The salt looked nice and clean as I poured it in, but I found that as it dissolves it contains a lot of dirt and sediment. I also found twigs, straw and Beatles. I even found a desiccated 5 inch centipede. I am pumping this into my water source? Would it kill them to sift the stuff before they bag it? When I retired the culligan and got a 42000 GE from Home Depot (way more salt efficient) I had a few bags left, so I figured that I could use them and then move to pellets. After I set it up I found that the manufacturer says not to use solar salt because all of the extra matter can clog the system and media. I had to scoop it out and clean the tank. It is the same for Kenmore and many of the one tank systems It is a cheap ice melt if you don't worry about concrete damage. I recommend that you save yourself the trouble and mess. I really see no reason to use this over pellets in a softener. Use nice clean pellets. August 19, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Melts ice great I went to purchase some rock salt to melt the ice in my driveway, and the young lady that helped me stated that they were out of rock salt and then suggested this product. I was skeptical at first but I purchased three bags and it works better than rock salt in my personal opinion. Now I wish I would've purchased more bags when I was at the store March 4, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Serves its purpose well. I use this salt for our whole house water softener system (Culligan). The extra coarse seems to work best for not clogging around the feed tube to the tank. The salt is very clean, rare to see any foreign objects in the container. May 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great value. Not only did they have a great inventory of the product that I needed, it was at the best price, too. When I arrived, the staff had already loaded my cart. They even offered to help me get my purchase into my car to take home. With a convenient store located on my commute, a simple trip to the service desk got me in and out in minutes! Online ordering with store pickup is great... July 9, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great to melt snow I purchased this to use as rock salt at the facility I maintain, when the snowfall this winter caused a shortage in rock salt in the Metro Detroit area. I have not used this product in a water softener. April 15, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Water softening salt If you have a water treatment system you need salt. To me salt is salt. I buy this brand because it has the lowest cost I can find anywhere and I can advance order online. It is well packaged with a carry handle built into the plastic bag. I originally thought the handle wouldn't be strong enough to not tear out when carrying the 40 pound bag. I've had the water treatment system since 2009 and use an average two bags a week. I cut the bag half way across below the handle and hold the bag by the handle and bottom when pouring the salt into the reservoir. I've never had a handle tear out even with the bag cut below the handle. June 28, 2014
