Answer:
Yes. There is a switch that changes it between alarm/chime/off. I placed the unit high on the door frame above my head so the kids couldn't get to it, and just changed it back and forth by feel.

Answer:
Yes it is. There is an on/off switch on the side. If you plan to keep it off for a while, slide the cover off and remove the batteries. This is very easy to operate.

Answer:
Yes, but they are watch style batteries, so you probably aren't going to have replacements just laying around the house like you do for the TV remote.

What if the magnet is lost, will the main part still work?

I watched the video and it says it also works by vibration?! For example if someone knocks real loudly on the outside of the door, WITHOUT the little magnet doo-dad. Will it still meet the requirements for it to work?
Because i lost the magnet and the alarm system works fine, nice and loud, right in your ear, instant headache

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 29 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Costs less than its batteries I bought 2 for a preschool door. There are 3 batteries inside. Each battery costs $5-$6. It costs less to replace the alarm than the batteries. I bought 4 more for the future. May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job!! The alarm came ready to install. Installation was very easy and the chime is much louder than expected....which is a good thing!! February 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not a good purchase Item would have been okay if it worked but it did'nt. I thought it might be the batterys so for six dollars I went out and bought new ones still no luck.Sorry but I can't give this product a good rating.I did get it to alarm by opening and closing the door two or three times. No chime no matter what I did. October 13, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Loud Very loud. I like how you can switch it from chime to siren like alarm. Very loud to wake you. Only complaint is that the sticky on the back is not sufficient. It fell off, signaling the alarm and I had to jump out of bed to disarm. My solution was to tape it, which has worked so far. I would recommend this product. August 18, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by It gets the job done Would have been a better reciew IF the activation switch had been placed on front of unit or bottom of unit. Switch location makes it some what limited for mounting in different locations! July 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by fantastic Compact size, Works fine, good price. A good choice. real loud for the size. July 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Home Defense system but without the price of a scurity system Door announcer was easy to use and operate. Would recommend this product. June 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for small kids We have used these for quite sometime. We have small children and the alarm/chime lets us know when they mess with the doors. Sometimes they decide to come outside after I have already been out, and it just let's me know that they are there and I need to keep an eye on them. It is also a pretty good deterrent for my kids from messing with the doors while everyone is home. They freeze in place and cover their ears when the alarm goes off. March 6, 2015
