Answer:
You can pump it constantly, but that gets old fast. Tighten the cap on the top of the hand squeezer and pump till you get a full line. At this point slowly loosten the cap. As long as the siphon hose end, (solid piece), is above the filling line, (flexible pipe), you have the right cap setting when it becomes free flowing. Just loosten the cap a lot to stop the flow.

What is the outer diameter of the hose?

As usual, the HD specifications are incomplete. It occasionally need to pump water out of a clogged sink and the openings in the bottom of sink strainer cups are less than 3/8". Pumping the water out makes for a less messy taking apart of the drain. Or I might be able to attach a smaller hose to the end.

Thanks.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by works Perfect for what I needed. Great product for the price. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works as it should. I use it for siphoning water out of the bath tub to use in the garden. Gets almost the last drop. June 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Siphon Works! I wasn't sure if this would work since it was so inexpensive, but it does. I use it to remove standing water from the bottom of the drain pans in my outdoor potted plants. I'm not sure that it would be that effective for larger projects since it doesn't siphon large amounts of water, but it works well for my needs. June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Siphon pump A very effective, and cheap way to transfer liquids. June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by works as descrbed I had used it to remove unused gasoline from snow blower before storing the snow blower for the season. It does as described. Nothing fancy. June 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Best pump for the money I need this to pull water off a boat cover through a leaf filter. It does the job well and I go through them regularly. Since I live in a area that does see cold weather during the winter, the plastic does crack and break. I could remove it after each use, but for the price, I leave it out year round. May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy and practical pump I use this pump in my interiorscape business to remove excess water from pots when it rains. Perfect. February 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pumped My Windshield Washer Reservoir This removed the old, summer-rated windshield washer fluid from my Honda Civic's reservoir in a jiff. It's a great little low viscosity fluid pump for the money. January 12, 2016
