Bought mine as a factory recon. Which USUALLY means it is actually better than new. Most of the time the people take the time to check and re-check the machine. Well they failed with this one. Oiler does not oil the chain or bar. It just flows out the bottom of the saw. Not unless it's running so sure the oil pump is working, and it's not just leaking out the tank.
H/D offered to send out for repair. However turn around time is at least a month. So plan to return for refund and look for another some where.
Honestly love the saw, just disappointed with the defective oiler. Won't discus the sales person at the store.

I have owned and Echo 14 inch chainsaw for the last 16 years and it has never let me down. So when it came time for another and bigger chainsaw my only choice was Echo. This saw is lite weight and has perfect balance. It has plenty of power for the jobs that I have to do. Starting this chainsaw is very easy. I do not hesitate to recommend this chainsaw to anyone. After every use I disassemble it and clean it with compressed air. I sharpen the chain, reverse and lube the tip of the bar. My only minor complaint is the paint on the bar comes off very easily. I am very happy with the purchase of this chainsaw and look forward to it lasting many years

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Cobraman250 Great saw but leaks oil
Ok, i got this paticular saw a few days ago cause i love Echo products. Well i gas up the saw to try it out and cuts really well like a knife through butter, but the problem im having with the saw is a few things. 1) its leaks oil real bad from somewhere under the saw, even if you to make adjust the setting to make it use less oil it stll leaks bad cause i found oil all in the under side of the saw and dripping off the blade. its suppose to use some to lubricate the chain but its not to leak oil while using it and when its not in use. That may be a defect on this paticular model CS-400 im hoping. 2) The chain came loose a little after a few cuts so i tried to tighten it back but the tensioner setting screw doesnt seem to work very well cause i had a hard time trying to get the right tension on the chain. So i took this saw back and exchanged for a second unit cause i thought the first was defective and when i got the second one, the exact same problems happened. I just ended up returning this saw, so i'll be looking for a different Echo model, hopefully one that doesnt leak oil. Please be careful if you buy or have this saw cause it will leak alot of oil like mine did.

I have nothing but echo products, edger, hedge cutter, weed wacker and i needed a new power saw. There was no question to the brand i would buy and that was echo. I paid a little more than others but the guarantee and performance more than made up for it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by wooded lot Power, quality and low vibration
Very smooth saw with low vibration. This saw had more power than I expected it to and the same reliable starting and responsiveness that my Echo string trimmer has had. Once warmed up I am able to start this saw with a half pull. This saw is a joy to own, use and maintain. I hope to pair this saw with an Echo CS-590 "Timberwolf" in the near future.
