My wife says it is a very nice saw for her unlike our previous Yellow & Black one we also still own.
This saw has extremely good balance, seems smaller physically, cuts fast so no need to hold up as long as our other one, is less harsh on ears although I still suggest ear protection & is easier starting if you follow directions that is.

Yes it is very easy to use. My wife is 62 years old and uses the saw with no problems. Ease of use is directly attributed to how easy the saw starts and how sharp the blade is.

It depends on how strong the lady is and what you are cutting. Cutting a down tree is easy for anyone but cutting branches overhead or in front of you are hard since you must support the saws weight. Also if you are cutting for hours you get tired. I think this is a good match at only 10.1 pounds. It pulls easy to start and you can put your foot in the handle on the ground and pull the rope to start it. Read More

Yes I'd recommend this saw for a lady. It's not very heavy at all, the blade cuts smoothly and rarely kicks back, and what may be most important in my opinion for a lady is that the pull cable takes much less effort to start the engine than other chainsaws I've used. It's a very nice chainsaw overall.

Hello nana, I’m Newf from the Home Depot’s how-to Community. Thank you for your question.
“Is this a good saw for a lady?” This model is lightweight for its size, but is made to take down large trees. The issue is not one of gender but of the right tool for the job you need it for.
I hope this helps,
Newf.

My Echo did not come with a case like my older saws had. I made a blade case out of wood so the saw didn't cut anything while I was transporting it. Not a problem. Maybe the Echo Co sells them.

I have had my Echo over 5 years now with no problems. I came with a 5 year period. I don't think you will have any problems if you drain out the fuel and run it dry after each use. Also use a fuel stableizer in your gas so it will last 6 months.

18 in. 40.2cc Gas Chainsaw is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 718.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from One mean machine.... Yes folks, I was hit hard by the Hurricane Matthew and there were about 5 75 foot trees that fell over into my back yard crushing my 4 foot high, black, chain link fence. Years ago I use to own a chain saw (it wasn't a ECHO) but it "called it quits" on me about a year ago. Since I am so happy with my ECHO edger, which has been performing for years and years without any problems, I decided to try the ECHO CS-400 with a 19 inch reach. Well friends, this little wood eater is fantastic! Always starts on the first pull (or sometimes the 2nd pull) and as long as you keep the chain sharpened, it eats through those pine & oak trees like butter.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor design mailed to me with a bad spark plug. i tried for hours to get it started and finally took it to the local store. the sales clerk gave it to a person who put a new spark plug in and got it started. I got it home and started to use it and the chajn pops off constantly. tried tightening it,running it with the chain gaurd, without the chain gaurd. I have never owned a saw with a clip on chain design, and never will again.

I haven't use the echo extensively but that goes for the other two chainsaws as well. I have an echo weed trimmer and gas blower as well and those products are also a superior value to other brands I have tried in those categories.

First I bought a Husqvarna 440, and couldn't get it started, took it back to Lowes and exchanged it for another one....same thing, couldn't start it, then I did a little youtube research on it and found out it's a common problem, thought I was buying a good chainsaw. Looked online for a chainsaw from Home Depot and figured the 18" would fit the bill out on my acreage. Went down and picked up the Echo for less than the Husqvarna, took it home and followed the instructions and it started up after about the third pull, which was much better than the hundred or so pulls trying to get the others to start. I have cut down and cut up many trees for firewood and haven't had to do anything but put more gas mix and bar and chain oil in it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great chainsaw/First time user After reading the instructions, being very careful and finally starting it (it took me about 20 or 30 pulls to get it going, May be I did something wrong but didn't think so) I started chopping all the branches that had fallen from a couple of old trees, it did great!!! Chainsaw is well built, I can now start it much faster. It has lots of power, it gets to be a bit heavy after a while working with it, but it's all that I need, actually in retrospective I could have bought the 16 inch and be able to accomplish the job but I'm happy with the purchase. I did buy oil and ethanol free gas for it. I never owened a chainsaw until I bought this one. Be very careful!!! and install the guard for safer operation, this thing cuts wood like a hot knife through butter. Always remember Safety first!!!
Date published: 2016-07-27
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Starting and Reliable I started off buying a Husqvarna 440 from a competitor's store. Unfortunately, that chainsaw was frustrating at every step, including unboxing. The directions were useless and after two days of trying to start it without any success, it returned it and bought the Echo CS-400. Wow, night and day! The Echo's manual was clear and concise, and this thing started with ONE PULL! Within minutes of unboxing, I was cutting through 18-inch logs like a hot knife through butter. And hot or cold, the engine has never failed to start with a single pull. Plus it includes a 5-year warranty, so I'm sure it's built to last.
Date published: 2016-04-25
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great until it broke. Bought the saw July 4th of 2015. Loved how it started and handled, use it all day and it doesn't beat you up. HOWEVER, the saw quit running in March of 2016 after approximately 16 cords of wood. It wouldn't restart and felt like there was no compression. Took it to an Echo dealer and found out the piston broke. They had never seen that before. With a 3 year consumer warranty I figured no problem, WRONG!!! It has been almost 3 months and still no word from Echo.
