My wife says it is a very nice saw for her unlike our previous Yellow & Black one we also still own.
This saw has extremely good balance, seems smaller physically, cuts fast so no need to hold up as long as our other one, is less harsh on ears although I still suggest ear protection & is easier starting if you follow directions that is.

Yes it is very easy to use. My wife is 62 years old and uses the saw with no problems. Ease of use is directly attributed to how easy the saw starts and how sharp the blade is.

It depends on how strong the lady is and what you are cutting. Cutting a down tree is easy for anyone but cutting branches overhead or in front of you are hard since you must support the saws weight. Also if you are cutting for hours you get tired. I think this is a good match at only 10.1 pounds. It pulls easy to start and you can put your foot in the handle on the ground and pull the rope to start it. Read More

Yes I'd recommend this saw for a lady. It's not very heavy at all, the blade cuts smoothly and rarely kicks back, and what may be most important in my opinion for a lady is that the pull cable takes much less effort to start the engine than other chainsaws I've used. It's a very nice chainsaw overall.

Hello nana, I’m Newf from the Home Depot’s how-to Community. Thank you for your question.
“Is this a good saw for a lady?” This model is lightweight for its size, but is made to take down large trees. The issue is not one of gender but of the right tool for the job you need it for.
I hope this helps,
Newf.

My Echo did not come with a case like my older saws had. I made a blade case out of wood so the saw didn't cut anything while I was transporting it. Not a problem. Maybe the Echo Co sells them.

I have had my Echo over 5 years now with no problems. I came with a 5 year period. I don't think you will have any problems if you drain out the fuel and run it dry after each use. Also use a fuel stableizer in your gas so it will last 6 months.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great saw but leaks oil Ok, i got this paticular saw a few days ago cause i love Echo products. Well i gas up the saw to try it out and cuts really well like a knife through butter, but the problem im having with the saw is a few things. 1) its leaks oil real bad from somewhere under the saw, even if you to make adjust the setting to make it use less oil it stll leaks bad cause i found oil all in the under side of the saw and dripping off the blade. its suppose to use some to lubricate the chain but its not to leak oil while using it and when its not in use. That may be a defect on this paticular model CS-400 im hoping. 2) The chain came loose a little after a few cuts so i tried to tighten it back but the tensioner setting screw doesnt seem to work very well cause i had a hard time trying to get the right tension on the chain. So i took this saw back and exchanged for a second unit cause i thought the first was defective and when i got the second one, the exact same problems happened. I just ended up returning this saw, so i'll be looking for a different Echo model, hopefully one that doesnt leak oil. Please be careful if you buy or have this saw cause it will leak alot of oil like mine did. May 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ECHO-CS-400 I have owned and Echo 14 inch chainsaw for the last 16 years and it has never let me down. So when it came time for another and bigger chainsaw my only choice was Echo. This saw is lite weight and has perfect balance. It has plenty of power for the jobs that I have to do. Starting this chainsaw is very easy. I do not hesitate to recommend this chainsaw to anyone. After every use I disassemble it and clean it with compressed air. I sharpen the chain, reverse and lube the tip of the bar. My only minor complaint is the paint on the bar comes off very easily. I am very happy with the purchase of this chainsaw and look forward to it lasting many years July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Second Time's a Charm Okay, so I read the reviews, researched the options and decided on an Echo. I went to my local HD and the helpful salesmen answered my questions. I was trying to decide on the 16 or 18-inch models. After my discussion with the sales staff I went with the 18-inch saw. I also purchased a can of the Echo 50:1 high octane gas/oil and a quart of their chain/bar lube. After driving home to clean up some sizable maple branches, I filled the saw with the fuel and bar lube and proceeded to pull, and pull, and pull on the starter cable... Nothing:( After 45 minutes I gave up, drove the 10 miles back to HD. I am certain there was just no fuel getting to the carburetor and it was not flooded since I could not smell any gas under the cover where the carb is located. Needless to say, I was not at all pleased with this saw being DOA out of the box. The gentleman at the HD service counter was very helpful. He checked out the saw and tried to start it briefly, then realized it was defective. I selected another of the same model and fresh bottles of the chain oil and bar lube and was quickly on my way. This time, the chainsaw fired right up. Let me tell you, this thing has some serious power! It made quick work of cutting up some hard silver maple. I previously owned a Poulan Pro 34 cc 16-inch saw which this one is replacing. The Echo seems to be a much more serious tool. It handles well, is balanced and reasonably lightweight. I can't give it 5-stars based solely on the first one that was defective out of box. Otherwise, that being said, I am happy so far with the second one. July 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not worth the money This is the worst chainsaw. I bought this to cut up some wood around the house. Bought the premixed fuel so I didn't have any issues because I just wanted to use it and get done. Followed the "quick start" instructions (what a joke). Chainsaw would not start. Tried for an hour. Went to the hardware store and bought another spark plug and the saw actually started. Used the saw for about 45 minutes and it worked pretty good while it was running. I put the saw down for about 10 minutes and went to start it back up and again it would not run. If your lucky enough to actually get the saw running it works pretty well, but I spent more time trying to get it started than actually using it. I took the saw back the next day and bought a Stihl for only $70 more. Well worth the money. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My First Echo Product This my first echo product and I totally love it. First time I used it was bogging down but after I took the chain brake cover, bar and chain and cleaned it.Put it back together wasn't bogging anymore. This saw cuts like a charm, would highly recommend this to anybody who wants a good chainsaw, lil pricey but worth the money.. July 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by onderful tool Father's day gift from children. This chainsaw is lightweight, easy to use and store. exactly what I was looking for July 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk Junk. No stars that made me give at least 1. I had nothing but problems with this chainsaw. I have a lot of echo products that work great. They should leave the chainsaws to someone else. Home Depot was great they refunded my money no questions asked. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding performance Chainsaw is easy to start and operated. Plenty of cutting power for bigger trees and jobs. Operates fantastic upright or horizontal when cutting off trunk at ground level. Easy to adjust tension to keep chain at right tightness to cut effectively. Safety handle works properly to stop chain rotation when using saw in position that places user at risk. Have owner other manufacturer chainsaws but would definitely make Echo my next choice on purchase or to recommend purchase to others. Including a storage container for saw should be considered to extend unit life and protection for all when not in use. June 7, 2016
