Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Bo Powerful, but heavy!
This trimmer is a beast, but was hard to hold up at shoulder height for extended periods of time. Cutting capability and battery life were all excellent.
Was not a big fan of having to squeeze the handle and the trigger in order for the trimmer to work, but I understand and appreciate the safety feature.
I considered returning it to the store, but decided that I would keep it. =)

The battery was missing. This is a serious Q/C problem - I would recommend purchasing another product.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Mafluric The trimmer is great; the battery is horrible
While a bit on the heavy side, the trimmer does a good job at handling all but the toughest branches. I have only used it once because the included battery became defective after it was stored over the winter. Storage was inside in a conditioned space. Wish I could give this product higher marks but the whole package, including the battery, was a disappointment. (And super inconvenient as I was all ready to do some work in the yard!)

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Frank Echo 58V Hedge Trimmer.... questioned buying, but completely satisfied!
I was looking into purchasing Echo's HC-152 or HC-155 Hedge Trimmer because I have hedges lining one side of my 1/2 acre property. I wanted a gas hedge trimmer because it normally takes anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes to get the hedges done, depending on how badly overgrown they are. My craftsman hedge trimmer attachment for my weed wacker always made the job tedious due to awkward positioning and I was in the market for something more user friendly.
I walked into Home Depot yesterday, looking to purchase the Echo HC-152 gas model. A guy in a Ryobi shirt approached me and we had a brief discussion. He said to re-think the gas option, as he does landscaping and has Echo 58V weed wackers, hedge trimmers, blowers, and the Echo 58V Mower on his trailer with mulitple 2 and 4 Volt Amp Hour batteries and he has had great success with his equipment. He convinced me that I could get almost 2 hours of hedge trimmer run time on a single charge of the 2 Amp Hour battery and that this would be the tool that works best for me.
I couldn't believe a guy in a Ryobi shirt was recommending Echo Products, but, I trusted his opinion because he wasn't even attempting to get me to buy the battery powered Ryobi Hedge Trimmer that sat right next to the Echo Products. :)
I reluctantly picked up the 58V Hedge Trimmer, if for no other reason... the 24" Blade, (which is what I truly wanted in a trimmer) and brought it home.
I un-boxed it and put the battery with 1 block of initial charge in the trimmer. Immediately I went to the holly bushes in front of my house and spent 15 minutes trimming them. The battery didn't die. I spent 10 more minutes trimming 2 additional bushes... the trimmer didn't die on me. Now I decided to charge the battery in full and tackle the remaining hedges on my property line. 30 minutes of charging later, and 60 minutes of cutting later, I got the job done with 2 out of 4 blocks of charge remaining on the battery. This hedge trimmer is a keeper. Thanks Ryobi Guy!!!!
Overall, this hedge trimmer is heavy compared to the Ego Trimmer, but its well balanced. This battery will last longer than the Ego Hedge Trimmer, so that was a huge plus. The charger for the 58V battery is large, but computerized... so the Lithium Ion Batteries get charged properly. This hedge trimmer came with a blade cover, which was a nice touch. The 24" blades help get the job done faster than expected.
If you have any doubts about battery powered hedge trimmers, try Echo's Hedge Trimmer out. I was skeptical that any battery would handle my situation on a single charge... but I was pleasantly suprised.

I could not find anywhere in the instructions that you have to compress the "roll bar" handle in order to operate the trimmer. Once I learned this it was relatively easy to tape the handle parts together so that you could use the trimmer at different angles.

The Echo 58-volt hedge trimmer is all about quality - from the precision ground blades to safety switches, a safety bar in the "bow" handle and a thumb switch just above the trigger. It is well balanced and quite powerful, once you get used to allowing a couple of seconds for the motor to come up to full speed. All in all, it does a good job - without being tethered by a cord or inhaling exhaust fumes.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pappy Full size and High power
The first thing you notice about this hedge trimmer is its large size - a full 24" blade. Its overall built is quite substantial and you get the sense of quality and durability. No cord and no gas means less maintenance and ease of mobility. So simple to use: squeeze the trigger to turn on; release trigger to stop! At 58 volts this is one powerful tool as I found out with it zipping through my dwarf youpon hedge and my dwarf Nellie R Steven hollies. Their branches range from 1/8" to 1/4" and were no challenge to tackle. When you squeeze the handles to start, you notice it takes a second or two for it to hit full speed and then it runs at full throttle. It's much quieter than I expected especially with it being so powerful. I took off a star for "ease of use" due to it being a little heavy which limited my ability to hold it up over my head to cut the taller branches. Other than that, I can find no other faults with this great hedge trimmer.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Texas Cordless without compromise
With a whopping 58v of lithium ion battery power, this cordless hedge trimmer tackles the biggest of jobs. No more unrolling extension cords, dragging them around the garden, and rolling them back up afterwards.
I was able to trim a total of 12 large privet hedges located all around a 5,000 sq ft ranch house, on a single charge. Normally I have to use 3 different power outlets, with a 50 foot extension cord, but I accomplished this without any cords at all! The unit is about 2 to 3 lbs heavier than my corded electric trimmer, due to the battery, but this was easily compensated for by not having to pull an extension cord around the property. The lack of a need for a power cord also meant I could easily get the trimmer up on top of some 7ft tall privets without the cord getting tangled in them.
The controls are very intuitive, with the safety switch on the main handle and a trigger on the grip. Grab the handle and the grip, squeeze, and the trimmer springs to life.
Trimming 12 privates used to take about an hour, it took just 35 minutes with this cordless trimmer. MY time is valuable, and this trimmer will pay for itself in the amount of time it saves.
