Questions & Answers

Can it be used without the grass catcher?

Asked by: Dale
Yes, it has a mulching plug/insert but it doesn't mulch well at all and it clumps clippings to the left side of the mower leaving a clumpy trail. It doesn't like thick grass.

I just received my lawn mower. It mentions wearing protective glasses and a face shield. Is the face shield necessary?

Asked by: Kath
Many suns ago, I rode big mowers for the county parks department. OSHA ruled then and I was made to wear safety glasses or goggles. Turns out I didn't want to work without them anyway - "my fellow Americans" can be a rather messy inconsiderate lot. To the jerk that wrote about needing Mommy to walk with you holding your hand, while I was with the parks department, I could lift big oil drums full of trash onto a trailer all by my lonesome - no Mommy with me, the parks commission didn't want to pay her anyway. So, from a former "professional", wear those safety glasses or shields. Even with insurance, you pay maybe $500 / eye for surgery to restore them to reasonable function. But as noted elsewhere, your choice, your face, your eyes, OSHA won't come around to your garage making sure you follow their rules.

I received the mower, with no battery or charger and was told it ships separately?

Our battery and charger came in the same box as the mower. Directly off the shelf from our Home Depot.

Is it good to have a 2nd battery as backup and how much does the battery cost? I've read lots of reviews on this mower and it seems that lots of people have difficulty with short life of the battery.
Asked by: steph
Don't waste your time or money on more ego products...we bought a battery that blew within the warranty period. Even though the battery was brand new and we had proof of purchase...ego refused to make the repair and told us to go buy another $150 battery. Worst customer service I have ever received hands down. Just pray your first battery and mower never break.

It made easy work of a quarter acre garden making this routine weekly task effortless. Battery Power is no problem........even with thick grass or slopes in the way. It is more than adequate with a 1 hour charge on tap. It is also so quiet you can barely hear it when used. Cleaning & putting away the Movwer is a slam dunk with little to no space taken-up in the tight & valuable garage real estate. Again, a "sweet" machine that worth a deeper look at if not an outright purchase most folks will be truly satisfied with! Rgds,

If you were like me, you may be weighing if the extra initial investment is worth it. My initial answer after purchase is YES. I ordered online and Home Depot had it waiting for me. The mower is super easy to setup, it's basically ready out of the box. The mower, charger, and battery all feel well built. The battery does come with a charge, but I went ahead and charged it up and I was ready to go! Some of my favorite features: 1. SUPER QUIET - I listen to headphones while I mow and was able to do so at a normal volume. I found myself taking out an ear bud to make sure the mower was running! (Even though there is a light to indicate it is) 2. For the most part I mulch and found this mower on par with gas mowers. It does also include a bag and a chute for side discharge. 3. Easy to adjust the height - Like super easy. No more adjusting each wheel. One lever and you are done. 4. Nice Self-Propel - The fast setting is FAST! I found myself using it on the lowest setting and thought that was sufficient, anything past half way and I couldn't imagine going that fast. It is super easy to adjust on the fly. 5. Push button start - No more having to be concerned about stopping the mower to talk to a neighbor or move a branch or stone. It starts right up with the push of a button. 6. Compact storage - Takes all of 5 seconds to go from used to stored vertically. 5. I found someone that calculated it cost 2.3 cents per charge! So, yes, you can get cheaper lawner but I think over time with lower maintenance costs the actual price difference is minimal. Anything else, can be justified with the great features this thing brings with it. So if you are on the fence...DO IT! :)

I have a 10,000 sq ft natural, not weed-free, lawn in wet western Oregon. Our cold wet, never-ending, winter meant that my lawn was way too tall at first mowing. It took me two afternoons to mow the whole lawn with grass catcher on, but the mower handled the job flawlessly. It would have been done faster, but I'm a 72 yr old woman that suffers from residual effects of a broken back and messed up knee and shoulder from a car accident, so I really love EGO's collection of Lithium-Ion battery powered tools. I bought this mower last year to replace the EGO 15" that I had purchased when they first came out. The 15" was not powerful enough to handle the load my lawn put on it. EGO provides the best customer service of any company I have ever dealt with. They promptly replaced my 15" EGO mower when I killed it with my horrible lawn conditions in one year. I am so pleased that EGO listens to customers and is constantly innovating and improving on products. With this mower, I can mow for 2 hours or more on one charge of the battery because I only engage the self-propel feature when the mowing gets harder, like in a particularly tall spot, or going uphill or when I'm exhausted. I also reduce the load on the battery by frequently emptying the grass catcher, and I always flip the mower over and scoop out the wet grass that tends to cling to the underside of the deck. This is something you can't do with a gas-powered mower. Also, I find I can keep mowing indefinitely by using the 5-amp battery from my EGO chainsaw while the 7.5-amp battery is charging. By the time the 5-amp battery needs a charge the 7.5-amp battery is fully charged and ready to go. I love my EGO battery-powered mower!

I was just informed that my dead mower apparently hit a "solid object" which caused harm to the motor and pcb. cost to repair...$420. So much for the 5 year warranty. sigh.....very disappointed and out $500 for this 2 year old mower.

I loved this thing so much, I liked mowing my lawn more because it was kind of cool with some of the features it came with. I really liked the universal deck adjustment, REALLY liked the fold up design as my garage is small. The headlights were a cool feature, just for the sake of having that feature. The bag is too small for my liking, and it doesn't come with a side discharge chute, but I don't really care about that. I also ended up buying string trimmer and 2 blowers from EGO as well. All nice and warranty registered. Machine was purchased last year in April, and was used every ten days or so for 6 months of 2016 and April & May of 2017. Mid mow on my desert sparse and fairly small lawn, early June my beloved thing died flat, no signs of life remaining. I had a good sense of confidence that what ever the matter with the machine, it could be resolved under warranty without too much hassle, but Holy Lord, what a hassle. EGO has a Product Community Board which they use to pay, or somehow compensate people respond to customer concerns and complaints, but it seems to be more of a means of drawing those concerns and complaints into an innocuous message board arena and letting people go to town. (https://community.egopowerplus.com/ego/topics/was-instructed-by-ego-to-take-my-sad-mower-to-home-depot-home-depot-told-me-we-dont-do-anything). It took me 2 trips to HomeDepot with my busted mower before I received acknowledgement that HomeDepot was the place to bring it for warranty repair, in fact, 1 person from EGO called HomeDepot to explain that EGO does move their motor repair through HomeDepot (with a $20 fee to me). This was as much as EGO has been willing to do. They just plainly don't stand behind their own products, and they don't seem to be concerned that people know it, either. I was quoted (By EGO), that I can anticipate a repair delay of 2 - 7 weeks. Others claim to have waited as many as 8 - 10 weeks. EGO believes this is a reasonable demand to place on their paying customers. Be smart, and don't buy this. A lawn mower should have some longevity, and this doesn't. It's expensive, and unsupported. If you buy one, it will break down ... and you will be me. meanwhile my lawn hasn't been mowed in a month. I'm going to have to buy, rent, or beg a neighbor to borrow a lawn mower. Not wanting to wait 2-7 weeks for a mower to be repaired which was just bought last year for light use ... I reached out to EGO who informed me that they are: " ... Happy to Help, but only after I've been waiting for longer than 2-4 weeks, and to be in touch then! :)" Heresay? Nope, check out my attached photo. Blurg. -j

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the hype I bought this mower wanting it to be all they said it is, however it is not. Everytime I mow I have to go back and cut the strips of mow hawked grass that was left behind. Which if you have a ton of extra time on your hands may not be an issue. Do not trust all the good reviews. Read carefully and you will hear people sacrifice a good cut for the conveniencece of a battery powered equipment. You will also hear stuff like "mine didn't cut good on blade height 2 so I switched to 3 and it cuts great" but what if you want to cut on 2? That's the stuff I am talking about. I really hoped it would cut like they said but I want a mower that cuts good on all settings, in all types of grass and at full 21" width without dropping grass clippings.

In the 45-60 minutes it takes to mow my yard I have not had to recharge the BA4200 battery, based on using the self-propelled feature around a third of the time. As noted in many reviews, the only weak point is mulching: at the #3 cutting level that I prefer, the Ego does not cut the grass into bits the way my old Bolens gas mower did, but leaves a trail of cut grass. Mulching is better at the next higher #4 level, but that leaves the grass longer and means I'd have to mow every 5 days or so rather than weekly. The upright storage feature is great and makes it easy to clean the underside (see photo). The noise level is about half that of a gas mower, but I still wear ear protection.

It takes me about an hour to mow my lawn and the battery is still going when I finish. I use it in mulching mode and have no issues so far. The mower starts with a push of a button and the self propelling feature works well and I have it about mid-speed. It's still fairly noisy when blades are running but when you stop, it's completely silent. The only drawback that I have experienced is that the flap on the rear of the deck gets caught and folds under the mower when you pull it backwards and so it immediately got deformed from this happening; that's why I only gave it 4 stars. I would definitely recommend.
