Does the pump stay quiet until you turn on the water which kicks it on or is it always making noise. Need something quite
Asked by: Heath
It's not bad. Louder then my new magnetic pool pump but about the same as my 20 year old pool pump. It's tolerable and since it doesn't run all the time not really an issue.

you would have to contact the home depot customer service to answer that question, how ever their should be free shipping to your local store. but again you would have to confirm that with home depot, the phone number for customer service has a extension for web site / order related inquiries and they should be able to answer those questions.

is it good for drinking water

Yes this will work for potable water, as in most wells or tanks I would have some type of filtering system on the end use side.

1/2 HP Shallow Well Jet Pump with 6 Gal. Tank is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for catchment tank Use this for my rain catchment system (1500 gallon tank from rain water) on wilderness property in the event of association well failure. Six gallon tank will allow me to flush toilet several times without pump starting. This is self contained enough to enclose is small heated structure in the winter time as there is not enough room in the cabin. What makes this even more friendly it comes assembled and all the parts were there except for a check valve which is needed to prevent losing prime.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Can't get it to work, must be defective This is an unbiased review that is unaffected by the fact that I received this product for free. As proof of impartiality, just click on my nickname and see the average of the ratings I have given over 200 reviews to date. ====First impressions=== The pressure gauge was bent so badly that I had to disassemble the gauge in order to make it usable. Not a good sign. ====Installation==== Before doing any installation, I decided to try it out first. And it's a good thing I did, because it did not work well. The pump would oscillate from run to stop every second or less. It sounded like an old fashioned well pump from the 1920's chugging away. Worse yet, it did not develop any usable pressure. Before I even tried to run this pump, I accidentally took off the cover of the regulator and noticed a large prominent burn mark on the inside of the cover where the label is located. (I had thought that the motor voltage setting might be under that cover). The pump had to have been run like this for an extended amount of time to make this mark and it was already there before I ran it. This had probably been returned as a failure and sent to me as is. I am not happy about that. I don't know what is specifically wrong but for me it is totally useless. It may be that the bladder inside the tank has burst or has a big leak? I did insert a check valve in the inlet line and read and re-read all the instructions to no avail. I even tried to adjust the regulator settings again to no avail. This item may well be destined for the local landfill or a metal re-cycler. ====Operation==== Not applicable ===Summary==== Useless and I can't recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Pump Happy to get this pump because i had an immediate use for it. We have an old home place well here where we built a new home. I always thought i might use it to water my garden. Got this pump. took a while to get it set up correctly, but now I am able to use this pump to water my garden. It does a great job for me. You will need 230v and a solid foundation to set it on. It runs smoothly and fairly quietly. I use it to irrigate several rows of small fruit as well. The pressure switch keeps the correct pressure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Little Pump If you need a compact pump for a shallow well or, in our case for a portable water supply, this one works very well. We are using it to supply 3 campers at a rural property that we use for a campground. It comes pre-wired for 220V but we switched it over to 110V for our use so that we could just plug it in to an existing outdoor outlet. The outlet was already GFCI protected. I also adjusted the high-low pressure settings to increase our water pressure as it was a little low on the high side. Something on this pump that we did not have on the previous pump is the matching size supply and discharge fittings. This makes it easier to find the fittings we needed for simple garden hose connections, as you will see in the accompanying pictures. We just remove the supply hose from the water tank when we are ready to take the trailer loaded tank to be refilled. This makes a very nice set-up for our use. It can just as easily be set up for a home or farm use from a shallow well.

I have an area on my property that is a concrete depression filled with dirt and a pipe sticking out. Not a well but it's similar. To keep it from being swampy I decided to use this pump to drain the spot once or twice a year and water the surrounding vegetation at the same time. I use my 4000W construction generator to power it, I don't know how hard it would be to do the rewire. So far it's been a lot easier to than going on an archaeological dig to find the concrete and break it all out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pump and tank all in one unit Installed this in a shallow (14 foot) well to augment the hand pump for a seasonal cabin. The nice thing about this is that the pump and the tank are in a single unit, so removing it at the end of the season and storing it away for winter will be a simpler process, but because I installed it so that it can be seasonally removed and reinstalled, my installation was considerably more complex than average. Pump came prewired for 220v and I had to rewire for 110, but that was not a big deal. Supplied instructions are thorough and easy to follow, and included a complete list of "other parts you might need". Installation is slightly more complex than say, a dishwasher or hot water heater, but if you understand the dynamics of shallow well pumps and electricity you should be able to handle this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great way to pump water from a rain barrel I used this shallow well pump to pump and spray water from a rain barrel. I used basic plumbing parts from Home Depot. I made it so that I can disassemble it quickly and only use a 115v extension cord. Changing over to 115 from 230v was easy. Just a basic switch. See video. I ran into one issue however. The discharge line from the pressure tank was not correctly installed by Everbilt. The rubber O ring was misshapen and did not have a tight seal. That was a quality control issue. I was able to acquire a new one and use teflon tape also to achieve a good seal. I wish it was tested from the factory prior to shipping. The pump all together is great. It is responsive and puts out a nice steady stream. It puts out what I would call "average" noise for a jet pump. Overall a great all in one system but a little more quality control would be good.
