Product Overview

The all-purpose design of the Fiskars X15 Chopping Axe makes felling trees quick and easy. Like every X-Series hatchet or axe, the X15 combines balanced weight distribution, advanced blade geometry, an ultra-sharp edge and virtually unbreakable design to maximize performance. This combination of features allows the blade to bite three times deeper when chopping. With more blade penetration on each swing, you can chop more wood in less time, with less effort and hand strain. A lifetime warranty underscores its durability.

  • Assembled dimensions: 7.5 in. W x 1.75 in. D x 26.75 in. H
  • Chops up to 3 times deeper than a traditional axe to chop more material faster
  • Perfected balance and power-to-weight ratio increases swing speed to multiply power, much like an aluminum baseball bat
  • Inseparable insert-molded head will not loosen and prevents overstrike breakage
  • Shock-absorbing FiberComp handle is lightweight yet stronger than steel to prevent overstrike damage
  • Low-friction blade coating powers through wood and prevents head from getting stuck
  • Nonslip textured grip reduces hand strain and improves control
  • Hardened forged steel blade stays sharp longer than traditional axes
  • Proprietary blade-grinding technique provides a sharper edge for better contact and cleaner cuts
  • Protected by a lifetime limited warranty

Customer Questions & Answers

Is the hadle replaceable?

How is the head attached to the handle, and can the handle be replaced with a standard wooden handle, or even at all in the case that it is damaged or broken?
Asked by: SomeGuy
The handle isn't replicable although it does come with a lifetime warrantee.

Could i chop down a tree with this?

Asked by: JD14
Sure no problem. Just remember to take a simple sharpening file or stone or whatever you like. The x15 blade sharpens quickly that's one of a couple things I really like about it!Fit nicely in a backpack or just carry handle that it comes with.

Is the Fiskars 23 in X15 axe as good as the "discontinued" Fiskars 28 for chopping large trees or handling heavy duty chopping jobs?

I had a question earlier about the Fiskars X27 splitting axe for chopping down trees. Fiskars customer service sent me this answer: As for the chopping action, if the majority of the work you are looking to do involves chopping down trees, we highly recommend you look into a chopping axe which is specifically designed for that kind of work. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Fiskars-28-in-Chopping-Axe-with-Sheath-375581-1001/204340901?keyword=375581-1001 However, after clicking on the above link it appears that Home Depot does not carry it and searching on the Internet I realized that it was discontinued. I wonder why Fiskars customer service referred me to a discontinued item, and is there a reason for it being discontinued? Most importantly, is the Fiskars 23 in. X15 as good for handling heavy duty chopping as the "discontinued" Fiskars 28 in which customer service recommended? It seems to me that the 23 in. X15 is more light weight and wouldn't handle larger trees as efficiently and quickly as the 28 in axe. Please advise, because I need something that would handle heavy duty chopping jobs, and I am puzzled as to why Fiskars customer service steers me to a "discontinued" item, even though it seems to be sold by a few online vendors. Thank you.

This axe does not rely on weight, however it is more a matter of safety, a shorter axe can be an issue with taller individuals.

Possibly not a big issue for the weekend warrior or mild light yard work. The problem that I found with this axe is first the handle although seemingly durable is horrible for hand shock every strike you can feel. when used lightly could see this not being an issue but for prolonged use it gets tiring. The manor in the way head is hung is not well thought through and takes a lot of wear. The edge when received was seemingly sharp but definitely needed to be touched up to make more efficient. The edge retention was fine as long as working with soft woods when I cut hickory it became a nightmare. These are just a few of the bigger problems I ran into the other things are minor and easy to fix and make work. All in all I think that for the money its worth it as long as you are using it for light work .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gotta Love it! I've just broken my second "virtually unbreakable" and am going back for another. The first ax head broke. Had to be a defect and it was replaced without charge. After about a year of heavy use, the second broke where the handle holds the ax head. Handles well. Light. The blade holds an edge well and sharpens easily with a file. I am considering the longer handle version for the leverage. Highly recommend. Can't help it. It did say virtually!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent! Great product! The handle is comfortable and just the right length to achieve successful results. The head is solid and sharp. You are ready to chop as soon as you receive it. It has a good head cover to protect from damage or accidental injury when not in use. This axe holds up to heavy duty daily use in an exceptional manner. No worries with the handle splitting, splintering or breaking. Extremely pleased!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best chopping axe for your hard earned cash. Chopping axe is super sharp. It has a high tech light and durable handle with a good feeling of control. Keep in mind a sharp axe can do serious harm to you so be safe. Unless your into competition felling this axe does a great job.
