I understand that the part with the magnet attached fits into the kerf of the door, but what about the non-manegtic part? Where does that go? My door only has the section with the magnets. Thank you

Answer:
The "non-magnetic" strip goes onto the door jamb at the hinge side. When the door closes it squeezes the rubber to seal.

Does this item ship folded in half?

The last time I installed a similar replacement the item arrived folded in half, making it much more difficult (if not impossible) to straighten out for a good installation and weather seal. I don't want to get into that mess again. I'll travel to a store (50- to 75-miles) and pick the item up to avoid this if possible.

This product will not fill a 3/4" gap. However, a foam tape 3/4" wide will take care of the gap problem.

Answer:
Jim - no adhesives -- this installs in the door jamb kerf - good old fashioned friction - there are a couple of vertical "vanes" or pieces along the entire length of the seal that provide friction inside the kerf. Great for removing the seal when it needs replacing.

Answer:
It pushes into about a 1/8 inch kerf cut into the door frame. That is what the little strip of plastic with what looks like arrows does. No adhesive is necessary, but your door frame must have the kerf cut in it all the way around.

No adhesive is required or included. I suppose that if your seals fall right out for some weird reason you may use some adhesive, but I just did two very different metal doors with the same kit and no adhesive was needed. The seals need to be pushed into place. They don't just fall in. You use your thumb to push them in. They'll stay there without nails or glue.

My door had 3 tiny finishing nail holding each strip on. One in the middle and one on each end. I don't know why. The seals stay in place without them.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Magnetic Door Seal It matched what was previously on the door, had no issues with installation. May 17, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Magnetic door seal replacement kit This replacement kit was used to replace the original door seal in my (condo) front door. The old door seal (original one) had a very robust magnet in the seal. The magnet was considerably thicker than what was in the replacement seal (which did not stick to the door as strongly). Otherwise I would have rated it "5 stars". The vinyl was noticeably thinner as well (This seems to be the basic philosophy in America today -- "make it cheaper than the last one"). There are some of us customers that would pay for higher quality where its needed (i.e. front door seals). I searched high and low and Home Depot was the only store around that had a replacement magnetic door seal (and only online). July 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good insulation for my worn out door Easy to install and perfect fit. Entire process took 20 minutes and sealed my door. March 29, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by The white lets light through, making it hard to tell if it's actually sealing Perfect replacement. Comes a couple inches long so trimming was necessary. The white lets light through. Between the magnet and the kerf. I was going to rip it off and take it back to Home Depot for a refund, thinking it wasn't sealing, but last second realized that's what was going on; it's translucent. Will be tough to tell when this one goes bad over time as it already lets light through. Also looks weird if in a non super lit up place. Will buy beige or whatever they have in the store next time. Also, could buy 4 sets of the non-magnetic stuff for the cost. Maybe try that next time. November 14, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It fits. It works. The gasket was easy to cut to size with a box cutting knife. It fit the kerfs in my door. The accordian material behind the magnet seems thin, but it works. The compressible gasket on the hinge side starts out stiff but gradually adapts. As near as I can tell, this is the only gasket available for this type of door. December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect Replacement Removed old strip that was destroyed by our "Anxious Kitty" and pressed new one into slot on door jam and trimmed off at bottom!! Also placed a squirt bottle full of water in front of new strip as a friendly reminder to Kitty that he could get sprayed if he does it again!!! December 14, 2015
