Customer Questions & Answers

Can this be used on a flat roof 18 X 25 feet?

Asked by: Flat1
yes it is a perfect low cost flat roof application, be sure you install a fiberglass base sheet (75lb) and fasten per the manufacturers directions, and then install the modified over the base sheet be careful to not apply too much heat, the surface just needs to get a slightly green hue as you roll it out, too much heat will allow the bitumen to melt away from the inner layers of fiberglass mat and damage longevity there should be about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of bleed out at the lap , more than that you are applying too much heat, less and you may not get full adhesion

What dripedge can I use with this material?

Asked by: Ferny
you should use galvanized or copper or heavy gauge (032) or thicker aluminum,( thin aluminum will buckle warp or melt) the drip edge should then be primed with an asphalt primer,( allow to dry to tack) and then apply a minimum 6" strip in cut from your roll of bitumen, allow 1/4 inch bleed out on both sides of stripping

can you apply it over shingles

my roof is leaking in spots.i want to know can you put it on shingles with out stripping the shingles off.
Asked by: magoo
no not directly , but it can be done, if the slope is more than 1/12 you need to install a nailable base before applying over shingles, it will melt the shingles in either case and it could very easily start the shingles burning if too much heat is applied and it will also need to be back nailed to prevent sliding

What's the manufacture warranty?

Asked by: mike
10 years for the material warranty details can be viewed on www.gaf.com, there are restrictions of coarse as with all material warranties and some of the clauses will restrict full warranty remedies to application by qualified professional installation

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best flat roof covering. Have installed this product on several low slope roofs. Product is easy to work with. Although the description says to have a professional install, with a little practice the more advanced do it yourselfers could install this. Ability to patch holes is extremely easy. All in all this is a great product for any low slope roof and lasts much longer than tool roofing.

Gaf Tri-Ply is a cost effective easy to apply torch or glue down roofing material. Heavy duty in comparison to other materials on the market but to be fair let 20 years go by and then I will rate it. Excellent for low slope or any roof where appearance is not a primary issue.
