Yes, you set it for the approximate area and then you can also additionally adjust it be be closer to the current values so it will be a little off once each year unless you adjust it near the solstice dates so it can guess closer. It not like it has GPS or anything like you could do with a full house automation system. I have mine on the entry lights which is an LED lit chandelier over the pond so it only need to be approximate. I changed the lights and switch 4 years ago and all have ran without any problems. It will do both single pole (like I have it) and 3 way. The cover acts just like a normal switch for manual on a off. The timer events are simply triggers and are not altered by the manual state like some timers. If you want to shut them off early you can and they will still go on next sunset. I have mine go off around midnight since I have a street light nearby and a motion triggered spot light covering the access to the front entry area if anyone (or creatures) approaches. That's a lot more effective even if it is only to chase off a thirsty raccoon. I do have to remember to turn it off on Halloween though. Read Less

Answer:
Kind of. You can select from South, Central, or North. But if you live far north (e.g. Seattle), it doesn't really track it all that well. If you REALLY want it dawn/dusk, you'll need to override the setting a couple times a year.

We finally figured out the issue. Every time there is a power outage it stops working. There is a little inset button and you need to take apencil or paper clip and press it. It resets and then works!

Answer:
I just experienced this same exact problem after a very short power outage (about 2 minutes). Clock stays on and it shows the unit is "On" but none of the buttons work and it will not turn the lights off. I can't even reset it. I'm going to kill the power to it via the breaker box and hope that resets it.

Answer:
Yes it does... I haven't timed it exactly to know how much but in a weeks time I notice a difference of about 5 minutes. There is also a 'random' option which varies any programmed times or the dusk/dawn feature to make the lights look more like they are being turned on by a person and not a photocell or timer.

Yes it does. If you program it dusk to dawn and make sure you set the zone. If it is a little too late or early for either dusk or dawn settings with the built in algorithm, you can adjust it up or down a few minutes.

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 144 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very nice product I purchased this G.E. timer switch to control 2 dual-brite lanterns at front entry because their photoelectric sensors had failed. I switched their little control switches to constant and now they are controlled by this timer. It's easy to install and It works great and also with the led bulbs I now use. Has been in for 3 months now. You program it to your time zone. I saw other makes on line that cost twice as much and thought that was too much for what I wanted. Then I saw this timer with good reviews and tried it. Glad I did. June 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by TotallySatisfied The wiring was simple. There was no problem programming the device for my local sunrise and sunset. It has been working flawlessly (using a CFL bulb) for more than a month. Only problem is that the buttons are very small, but I used a pencil. I intend to buy another one for my other porch light. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very SMART purchase!!! I purchased 3 of these. Two of them I use to power on and off my external wall outlets for holiday lighting. The third is used for my front porch lighting. During the holidays I will set the external outlet timers to turn on at dusk and shut off at midnight. During this same time, I set my front porch light timer to turn on at midnight and shut off at dawn. There are a number of ways to program these to fit your needs. Instructions are very easy to read and follow. I am a DIYer and electrical is not my strong suit. If I figured it out, anyone can. You simply can't beat the price when compared to similar timer switches. January 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great automatic timer for outside or inside lighting Other than the body of the switch being large and a little difficult to push into my three unit switch box because of the extra wiring in it, installation was pretty straight forward. The package comes with everything you will need to install the switch. This is the second one I have installed and if you follow the instructions, which can be a little confusing if your a real novice, they work perfectly. I like the idea that you have many different choices in the setup, like random times on/off, Dawn/Dusk and it changes with Daylight Savings. January 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Set and forget I was looking for a dusk to dawn automatic sensor for a side garage door outside light. Screw in sensors were unreliable. Got this unit and it is working great. It is big for the box and the programming takes patience but once it is done, it is done. Very pleased. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Timer works well Great price but tedious to program. Works well recommended July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Timer Needed a timer to control my outdoor lighting at night. Purchased this in-wall digital timer from Home Depot.com because the stores here don't carry this model. Delivery was very quick. Installation was easy. The instructions were very clear and made the set up a breeze. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So Good Why Not In Store? I bought two of these timer/switches for my front house lights so that I could operate them differently and they work perfectly. I don't know why such universal product is not sold in stores. The functions and ability to program to a time as well as operate it as a normal on/off switch are amazing. Simply set dusk/dawn and let the internals figure out when that time is for your location and date, or have it come on at dusk and off at midnight as I do mine. Want it back on before sunrise? Program that too and then have it shut it back off when the sunrise hits. I wish I had more things I needed a timer switch for. Wiring was like any other GFI type outlet. The switch body goes pretty deep in the box so if you have a full box of wires it takes a bit of effort to get it all stuffed back in there. May 31, 2016
