Is the joules rating on this product (GE General Purpose Surge Protector Model #14704) sufficient to protect a computer?

I have been told that a 1000 joules rating would be best.
Asked by: Bill
The amount of joules will determine how long the surge protector will be able to protect your equipment. The more joules the surge protector has the longer it should be able to protect the equipment. To my knowledge there isn’t a guide that says if you have this equipment you need a surge protector with X number of joules. You should always get a surge protector with the most joules that you can afford. Jasco Products Tech Support (Manufacturer)
