small chip repair

This question is from Profile 30 in. Glass Ceramic Downdraft Radiant Electric Cooktop in Black with 5 Elements

Just noticed a small chip 1/4" x 1/8" one inch above lower rt. edge of cook top. Appears to be cosmetic only. Can this be repaired, disguised? Is there a trim that can be applied around the entire cook top edge to protect and hide chip? If nothing is available from GE, perhaps a product used for other purposes (i.e. trim, gasket).

Thank you.

Customer Reviews

Profile 30 in. Glass Ceramic Downdraft Radiant Electric Cooktop in Stainless Steel with 5 Elements is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 205.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed opinions The cooktop works very well, in general, except the part the bridge knob connects to broke down inside the cooktop. I was told this part was VERY expensive relative to how much I use the bridge, so I am living without. The downdraft mechanism is powerful enough to do the job, so I'm happy with that. My major complaint is keeping it clean - even if you pop the knobs off, the posts are still in the way, and it's virtually impossible to clean around them properly. I would recommend getting a knobless cooktop instead. Also, it is very difficult to get the cover to the downdraft clean, even though it's removable. The black painted surface attracts grease which is difficult to get to between the louvers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice looking product, but not the best for the money The elements all heat up very quickly. And while it does have a downdraft, there are drawbacks to its design: spills can drip into the downdraft quite easily (there is no lip) and the downdraft fan is huge and is a pain to fit into an existing counter installation. The plastic control knobs feel cheap and do not turn very well. Fine cooktop, but for its price-point, I would expect a more polished product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from product has some nice features This replaced an electric 25+yrs old downdraft Jenn Air when Jenn Air was a quality product. There is little in this field to choose from today so I looked at reviews from several online sites and decided this unit was the best. I selected the stainless steel unit because I felt it would protect the edges of the unit from damage. What I like is the bridge element, the element that can adjust to 2 different pan sizes, the 3 speed downdraft that does an excellent job. We have a small peninsula and the downdraft unit takes up a fair amount of room in the cabinet where I store my pots & pans. I had to move some to another cabinet. Maintaining the cooktop's mirror finish is near impossible and cleaning around the knobs horrible. I use Cerama Brite and no matter what I use to buff it clean this cooktop will never be streak free or dust free.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Heats up quickly This cooktop heats up quickly compared to my previous 20yr old cooktop. Also has a light on it even when it's off if a burner is still hot which I really like. the downdraft blower is larger than my previous one so it takes up more space below.
Date published: 2011-11-15
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power Boil burner is very useful This is my second GE downdraft cooktop. I replaced the first one when it was 13 years old. It still worked well but it was white and I wanted to change my appliance colors. My new cooktop works very well and I especially use the power boil burner to quickly heat liquids in my large soup pot or to heat oil in a large saute pan. I clean it with glass cook top cleaner and paper towels. Several people said it requires too much cleaning but I find that if I clean it often then it is easy to keep up with the spills. Remember to allow the burners to cool completely before cleaning. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Date published: 2012-10-09
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Difficult to keep clean This cooktop is extremely difficult to keep clean. Everytime you use it, even for simple things like heating a can of soup, you have to clean the cooktop with a special cleaner. You have to wait until the cooktop cools down, which could be 20-30 minutes after you finish eating, to apply the cleaner. If you don't clean after each use, you have spots, streaks, and stains even though you may not have spilled anything while you were cooking. If you clean just around the burner you were using, there are streaks left by the cleaner, so you have to clean the entire surface to avoid leaving any streaks. Also, you must use the special cleaner to clean it well. If you wipe it off with a dish cloth or sponge and dry it with a towel it looks very streaky. There was no warning in the marketing materials that this product required so much cleaning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cooktop! Love this cooktop! It's hard to find an electric downdraft that looks great in an island. Heats quickly. Glass does show smudges, but it's a cooktop for crying out loud; not a mirror!
Date published: 2012-03-13
Rated 4 out of 5 by from 30" GE electric downdraft cooktop The cooktop works well, it heats fast for quick boiling of water. It cleans well. The downdraft installation was very tedious and required alot of ductwork
