HELP! Is This Enough Light For Plants To Grow?

This question is from Slim Line 23 in. Fluorescent Light Fixture
Asked by
Jerry

September 20, 2013
I plan on getting a head start for gardening in 2014 by raising plants from seed. But Is there enough output from this fixture to help with plant growth after germination? I've seen similar lights that advertise 17 watts with an output equivalent of 75 watts for plants. Those cost more, but I'm willing to spend more if this fixture won't give me good results.

Jerry, I bought the 2 ft.T5 High 1-Bulb Output Fluorescent Grow Light Fixture. Model V21. Internet#203124380. They are working great. I mounted 1-2 above each shelf of my growing rack and the plants love them. I ordered 6 and I'm ordering 8 more today. Hope this helps.

Answer:
I would just cut the plug end off and wire it direct that way. use the proper wire nuts and secure the cord to protect from damaging the insulation. This will prevent the possibility of someone getting shocked or fire due to electrical arcing.
I plan on doing this with on my own installation but for right now I have just plugged it in.

Answer:
There is a 3 term inline socket on the switch end.
There is 1 cord with a plug that mates to it for line input.
Don't know why you couldn't direct wire it unless some code would prevent it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by my plants love them I love the lights, now all I need to know, do you also have the replacement lights? July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Under The Counter Light For Large Areas The install was very easy. The amount of light that comes from fixture exceeded my expectations. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great light but.... Excellent and compact light. However, getting them mounted flush with the underside of the cabinet bottom required an effort. Supplied "horizontal" brackets added distance to cabinet bottom creating a more visible exposure below the lower face board. I used the "vertical" brackets screwed into the back of the lower face board, but it was difficult to install them under and behind. End result is great. Also, there is no provision for direct wire installation. I installed duplex outlets on the wall just below the cabinet bottom, then stuffed the excess cord length back into the wall. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by most light for the money we wanted something bright and low profile. led are expensive and light output is low. these fluorescent lights where cheap and bright enough that we do not need to use the ceiling light if we wanted. bright light at the work syrface and ambiance for the rest of the kitchen. installation is easy but tricky because of tiny parts. i wish they had more in between fixture lengths and more connecting cable options. June 9, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good fluorescent light This was a replacement for a burned out undercabinet light. It is working well. October 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mr Great product, a little work on installation. The screws for the bracket are probably the smallest I have ver seen. Be very vigilant, cause if they fall on the floor or a rug It's ove. Took 10 minutes to find one of them on the counter August 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product Easy to install and worked out very well for were we purchased it to use. July 7, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by The low price reflects the low quality Plan was to install these "slim" lights under kitchen counters. The mounting method, which isn't described on the package, has one installing the lights with plastic brackets, that connect to the light box. This results in the light hanging another inch lower than the depth of the light box. So much for a "slim" mount light. They install easily, but look cheap once installed. Thus the price reflects the quality. They aren't very good looking once installed. I removed them and replaced them with the $50 light. I now have a "slim" light that isn't seen under the cabinet. Both lights I might add, are the same depth, but one mounts cabinet flush. This light doesn't! December 30, 2013
